Tharg the Tardy has finally thrashed Design droid PYE-01's metal prosterior into submission and made the lazy SOB design some 2000AD desktop wallpapers. Feel free to take a look and post up some feedback! (not too many long words please - he is a budget model after all.)
After a lengthy bit of threatening from Mek-Quake he has also decided that he's open to your suggestions for more artwork to be used in the future.

PROG 1382 MISSING IN THE MIDLANDS!



Important news! Those Earthlets who may be having trouble getting hold of Prog 1382, fear not, the Galaxy's Greatest has not succumbed to a vile plot by the Dictators of Zrag and been vanquished to the outer reaches of the universe - instead, due to a courier error, several thousand have gone missing in transit. This is mainly going to affect the Midlands area.

I am delighted to announce that legendary 2000 AD droids John Wagner, Carlos Ezquerra and Arthur Ranson are now confirmed as special guests at Dreddcon 4, which is being held in Oxford on December 6.

Wagner and Ezquerra are two of 2000 AD?s longest-serving creators, and have been responsible, as a team and with other writers and artists, for some of the most legendary moments in 2000 AD?s history. Wagner and Ezquerra have created numerous iconic 2000 AD characters, including leading strips such as Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog.

Arthur Ranson?s detailed realistic art style has graced many 2000 AD stories, and he is particularly well known for his stunning rendition of Judge Anderson in many collaborations with Alan Grant. He is also famed for drawing three series? of Button Man, a creator-owned collaboration with John Wagner that follows the story of Harry Exton, a hard-bitten ex-professional assassin, who keeps being drawn back into that dark world (the first Button Man series will be available in a hardback graphic novel this month).

Right, I am proud to announce that with a truly zarjaz score that may even elicit a grimace of satisfaction from Joe Dredd himself, Carnivore is the winner of the Dredd demo challenge.

Good scores were received from all entrants, and here is a rundown of those Squaxx who scored over the amount needed to get a Judge Dredd rating. H-Wagons are now on the way to round up these Earthlets for compulsory Justice Department basic training:

It seems that many of my loyal Squaxx are currently enjoying the demo of Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs. Death that can be found on the front of this month's PC Zone magazine, so I thought I would set you a fun challenge for this weekend.

Play through the Docks level of the game that comes as part of the demo, and send photographic proof of the awesome score you achieve when you finish the level (either a digital pic of the screen, or a grab, but please keep file size small) to my propaganda droid Mk13, at markc@rebellion.co.uk.

The person with the highest score will win a prize from the Nerve Centre's vaults of zarjaz merchandise.

Have fun, and no cheating, unless you would like to receive a Rigelian Hotshot with your breakfast cereal on Monday morning!

Death, 2000 AD will be publishing a terrifying 112-page Dredd Vs. Death special on 10 September.

This special will be the first of 2000 AD?s Extreme Editions, an ongoing quarterly series of newsstand specials, each issue of which will be dedicated to a particular theme or 2000 AD character, and will feature a host of never reprinted and hard-to-find classics from 2000 AD?s history, plus editorial features, character histories and tons of other material.

The thrill-packed Dredd Vs. Death Extreme Edition will be packed with fan favourite stories featuring the pernicious Dark Judges, leading off with the 42-page ?Dead Reckoning?, by Dredd creator John Wagner and artist Greg Staples, a story that has never been reprinted since its first appearance in 2000 AD. Other never reprinted stories in the special include ?Judge Death: The True Story?, by Wagner and veteran 2000 AD artist Ian Gibson, ?Behold the Beast? This is just a final missive from the Nerve Centre to tell you about some more Art and Script Droids who have confirmed their presence at Dreddcon 2002, which is being held this Saturday (14 Dec) at the Brewery in London (www.thebrewery.co.uk), and to let you know about some of the events that will be happening over the course of the day.

Some of the following droids were listed in later versions of my previous announcement, but as the Earthlet brain seems to forget details such as these very easily, it can?t hurt to mention them again.

The confirmed list of script droids in attendance now includes Mike Carey (13/Lucifer), Peter Hogan (Strontium Dogs/Durham Red), Robbie Morrison (Nikolai Dante/The Authority) and Gordon Rennie (Necronauts/Storming Heaven), who will be endeavouring not to spill his drink on anyone?s original artwork this time. I can also now confirm that Dredd creator and regular scribe John Wagner has now confirmed that he will be attending Dreddcon.

Meanwhile, the list of attending art droids has expanded most impressively, with new additions including David Bircham (Sinister Dexter/Slaine), Simon Bisley (Slaine/ABC Warriors), Laurence Campbell (Bison/DeMarco P.I.), D?Israeli (Lazarus Churchyard/Scarlet Traces), Simon Fraser (Nikolai Dante), Kev Hopgood (Harlem Heroes/Night Zero), Paul Marshall (Dredd/Firekind/Tyranny Rex), Dom Reardon (Cabbalistics, Inc.) and Lee Townsend (Bison/Past Imperfect/Sinister Dexter).

As mentioned previously, in addition to a dealer room, there will be a talks room and a room for more visual demonstrations. The talks room will host a number of events, including panels of new and established droids and discussions on the history of 2000 AD, its future, and the future of comics in general, plus anime films from Manga during quieter periods. The day will be rounded off with that perennial favourite, Tharg?s Pitch Fest, where anyone attending Dreddcon has the opportunity to spend two minutes pitching an idea for a Future Shock, Terror Tale or Past Imperfect to myself and a panel of 2000 AD editors and other creators. The person who pitches the winning idea will be asked to work it up into a full script, which will be published in a future issue of 2000 AD (please contact one of my events droids at the email addresses below if you require more details on Pitch Fest).

The other room will feature a range of more practical demonstrations, including talks from Big Finish on how they script and act for the 2000 AD audio dramas, and how they go about recording sound effects and creating a believable environment in an audio medium. Art droid Frazer Irving will be giving Dreddcon attendees an insight into the his weird and wonderful artwork through the medium of a slideshow and interpretative dance (I might be misreading the last bit), and Emmy award-winning prosthetic make-up artist Steve Bettles (Sleepy Hollow/Jack & The Beanstalk), will be making someone up as a well-known 2000 AD character. There will be a number of other art-related events going on throughout the day.

Day tickets for the event (?15) and full tickets for the event and the post-Dreddcon party in the evening (?25) will be available on the door from 9am. Children under 12 years of age will be allowed in to the daytime event free of charge, though there is a strict over-18s policy for the post event party.

The Wagner droid is being cautious about the perils of the Earthlet railway system, so it would be unfair for me to confirm him as a definite at this point, though he has expressed an interest in attending.

I sincerely hope he will be able to make it down, as I know many Squaxx will be hoping to see him there.
