General / Burger wars
04 April, 2002, 03:20:14 AM
I've just read "Burger Wars" from progs 71 and 72 for the first time, and I'm at a loss to understand what was the big deal?

I can't for the life of me see how McDonald's or Burger King might be harmed in any way by this fairly implausible science fiction story. Nor do I think there's a "copyright violation" here, but then I'm no expert on British copyright laws. Seems to me the familiar "fair use" privilege should be invoked, permitting the stories to be reprinted.

Has anybody thought of taking these stories to McDonald's and Burger King and seeking their permission for them to be reprinted? It's been 19 years, for Christ's sake. While I would acknowledge there are some intellectual property issues afoot, seems to me a simple disclaimer (and perhaps a sharing of profits) would resolve the matter.

Thoughts?

General / Prog 1208 - wha' happened?
28 March, 2002, 10:34:58 PM
I've heard a number of folks on the board say that prog 1208 was poorly distributed and few fans actually have that prog.

Was wondering what was the official (and unofficial) story on that prog? Were they diverted, and now languish in a warehouse somewhere near Birmingham, or were very few printed, and nobody's parting with their dearly beloved copy?

I am among those who do not have prog 1208, and would pay a reasonable sum to take one off somebody's hands. Perhaps Rebellion could reprint that prog, and save me the money?

Website and Forum / Thill power ratings
22 March, 2002, 04:55:06 AM
Wake,
I noticed that for each prog that has a ranking, there is a thrill power rating. Is there a ranking of the top 50 or so progs based on thrill power somewhere on the site? Would that be interesting? Makes you wonder, what single prog is the most thrill-powered of all time? If there's not enough votes to tell, perhaps some more readers would be moved to vote, knowing that such a statistic might be forthcoming.

General / No prog 1277 in the States
07 March, 2002, 10:28:25 PM
It's official. My comic shop merchant has informed me that the US distributor of 2000AD was shorted copies of prog 1277 and there weren't enough to go around, so it's highly unlikely I'll be able to get one here through the normal channels. Anybody got a copy they would be willing to sell me?

Website and Forum / Photos from the party?

Will there be any photos from the party posted on the Web site? 20 or 30 pics would be nice...

Website and Forum / chat room
12 February, 2002, 06:36:00 AM
Are there instructions somewhere on the site for how to use the chat room. I go there, and it's asking me for a user name. Is that the same as our message board user name? It seems that no matter what I type in there, I get a connection error. Perhaps this is a temporary situation, but I see that fraston is there now, all alone, presumably logged in and lonely. Can anyone help?

Suggestions / Continued thread...3000AD, Potter
08 February, 2002, 08:00:15 AM
Paul, I totally agree with your last post in Thread 635. Particularly the part about me assisting Tharg's nephews to edit the mag.
Imagine being Dredd's clone...only you're 10 years old and in judge training. And your teacher is Dredd! I think it would work better if it's an ensemble cast of young trainees...some girls, some boys. Do they get involved in mischief?
People, young people especially, are drawn to the idea of a post-apocalyptic future. Nihilism is in fashion. Give them some thrill-powered stories of their own. "3000AD - not your father's comic."

General / No Megazines for US readers?
21 December, 2001, 06:45:48 AM
Longtime U.S. reader/collector here, getting worried that someone's decided the Megazine won't be distributed to the States anymore. Why am I worried?

U.S. collectors who buy from comics shops can pre-order comics from the monthly Previews catalog, published by Diamond Comics, the national distributor.

Last month's Previews order form (for comics shipping in January) listed 2000AD progs 1273-1276, but not Judge Dredd Megazine Vol 4 No 7.

And this month's Previews (for comics shipping in February) lists 2000AD progs 1277-1280, but makes no mention of the anticipated Judge Dredd Megazine Vol 4 No 8.

Have Rebellion cancelled the Megazine? Is it no longer being shipped to the US? Or is it an omission on Previews' part?
Does anyone know?

Cheers

General / New editors, etc.
13 October, 2001, 06:39:10 PM
I've often wondered, what qualifications must one have to be a comics editor? I know Dig-L started out as a writer, but not all comics editors write. So what background does a magazine like 2000AD look for in an editor? Does anybody know?
