Secondly that's clearly NOT the worlds worstest tatoo. Outside of wether you think it's funny and cute - which clearly it isn't, but it may have seemd that way back in 1997 back when the guy had it done - at least it's merely some inoffensive text. It's not a badly drawn jaguar, or worse a badly drawn image of the guys own family tatooed upon his flesh. Theres a huge amount of scope for tatoos worse than this one.

That reminded me, when I was getting my first one done a young chap walks in and asks how much it would cost to have "Made in Glasgow" on his belly with an arrow pointing down to his groin. I do hope he got that done as I thought it witty and extremely classy.

One was a failed writer whose wife had burnt his last manuscript after he'd spent ten years working on it, so he'd had a breakdown, one was the town's best known murderer (sad not bad), one was known for having been caught stealing off everyone who'd employed him in thirty years... the usual sorts of reasons why someone might never get a job.
But the best reason was given by the man at the end of the bar, who used to walk around town looking like a G8 protestor with his scarf covering half his face. He didn't need to say anything, you see, as when he took the scarf off the reason for his unemployment was revealed. He'd been in the Civil Service as some sort of accountant, working overseas, and on a week-long bender in some Far East country he'd had a very delicate, very beautiful tattoo of a tiger done over his entire body. The neck of the tiger stretched up his own neck, and its jaws hovered perpetually on the verge of biting his nose. The tiger stretched everywhere - on both his hands there were tiger paws, and one time he moved so we could see his ankles, and there was the tiger tail, wrapped around it. Thing is, when he did it, it was essentially a sacking offence in the Service - and few people in our part of the world would trust a tattooed accountant. He wouldn't talk about it at all, and it was very, very clear that he viewed the tattoo as the thing that ruined his life.

I cant find an image but I can distinctly remember a guy being on the news at the time of Charles and Diana's wedding displaying his tattoo: an image of the happy couple taken from a commemorative teatowel or something, which covered his whole back.

that's kind of witty. It's way better than a lot of other tattoos such as crap celtic stuff, mis-used Chinese/Japanese characters....come to think of it, the only good tattoos are those terrific looking ones on the bodies of women would would look great anyway in expensive tattoo magazines

I've never wanted a tattoo...being the kind of person that is seriously into something one week and spends all his money on it as it is his great passion and love...and the next week is totally into something else and wishing how he hadn't spent all his money on that other stuff. I think that there is nothing in the world that I could draw on my body that wouldn't shame/annoy mortify me a few days or months later.
Also, Imagine the guy that first thought to put the barcode on the back of his neck. Personally I thought that was quite a cool tattoo and said something. But then loads of people got one and it's rendered less effective. like those stupid Chinese symbols you see on girls ass cheeks everywhere.....
Also, since when did it become acceptable for girls to show off their ass cracks on the bus and everywhere? for years blokes were derided for having a plumbers arse. Now I see 12 ass cracks before I go to work! Double standards or what? If I wanna see ass I'll go on the internet!

I've seen some shockers in my time, but one of the worst has to be one that I saw at a gig, of what appeared to be a full-back tattoo of a naked woman dancing within a mushroom cloud as drawn by a hyperopic toddler. The bloke who's tatt it was looked like a combination of King Buzzo and Marti Cain, so you would've thought he'd want to attract as little attention to himself as possible.

One or two tattoos can look pretty cool, but when someone has lots of them the effect is diminished somewhat. A girl I once knew had her entire front torso done. I saw her naked from the waist up and didn't realise it until much later. I thought she was just wearing a colourful t-shirt...

I got the Bat symbol as a Henna tat once while I was on holiday.
The funny thing was, I had an allergic reaction to it and the skin all upped and blistered and I was left with a scar in the shape of the Bat symbol.
It finally faded after about four months but until it did, every time I looked at it I couldn't help but laugh at the irony of my temporary tat.

Oh - the leopard man - they made a documentary about him years ago, and they were going for the "he's a bit nuts" angle, but it backfired. He was in a supermarket on the mainland, dressed in a loincloth, and the interviewer was going "normally, you live on your island totally nude, so why are you covering yourself up now", to which he replied "I'm in a supermarket".

Years ago i used to know this guy who was a skateboarding type who had quite a lot of tattoos.
I forget what the main part of the tattoo was of but it was surrounded by a mound or pile of skulls.
But not quite as the pile of skulls were too small and very badly drawn so they inadvertantly ended up looking like a pile of steaming poo.

I sometimes feel I'm the only human alive that can't stand the bloody Goonies. I think I was just a few years too old for it when it came out (a surly teen who had just realised he'd learnt all he'd ever need to know, obsessed with opposing American fundamentalism and the military ambitions of the EEC...), and the appeal forever passed me by. The bulk of the film bored me to tears - I was only four or five at the time, watching a terrestrial repeat - but the first appearance of Sloth made me sit up and take notice, and then it had pirate skeletons at the end, and every young boy likes skeletons.

I was on a plastering course and one of the guys had a work in progress tattoo. It was a generic cards and dice affair but I couldn't help but notice that on one of the dice both the 3 and 4 were visible. As opposite sides add up to seven the view he had wasn't possible. It may be a statement against playing craps or 3/4 has some other meaning but I couldn't bring myself to point it out without appearing smart-alecy. No doubt he'll hear all about it in due course.

I think bits of that 'centipede' tattoo have been rubbed out and redrawn. Look at the middle section's left leg. Also the alimentary canal is far less smooth than a tattooist would sketch out before committing to ink and needles. I hope that puts a few minds at rest.

Yep the linework is piss poor (the middle figure's arm is half-arsed too) and incorrect (the arrow at the front points forwards not backwards), but then again I'm thinking you probably couldn't get the Michael Angelo of tattoos to agree to do that - I picture the tattooist as being a homeless mental patient with questionable hygene ;)

Various Tribes around the World and throughout Human history have modified their bodies. Tattoos, piercings, elongated necks. Even mullets!
Sex Change Operations could also be regarded as body modification. Or even prosthetic limbs!

I think there should be some kind of protection for people though. And let's face it, he's unlikely to have done this himself - someone's taken money to do that to him. Not good.

A close friend of mine is heavily tattooed and pierced, and once had a plate with 3 screw-holes inserted in her forehead, so she could wear 3 horns like a triceratops.
She is also one of the sanest, kindest and happiest people you could ever wish to meet.
Now that fella with the cheek-holes - it's certainly extreme, but I don't think anyone should jump to conclusions about his mental health because of it.

I used to have turquoise hair too - I beat you to it by about 17 years though ;)

I've always loved the idea of a tattoo but have never thought of anything that I can be sure I'm going to like forever - I shudder to think what I'd be stuck with if I'd have got tats in my teens/twenties.
I'm almost 50 and and I have considered getting something now that I'm more set in my ways -A Dredd badge maybe, the old 2000ad logo or a yin/yang symbol- but I've heard it stings a bit, so maybe not.

1) Aerosmith logo, self-drawn, on my right upper arm. Got it the day I hit 18 - told my that day that I was going out to get a tattoo & get drunk (I had not drunk alcohol until that day) and she simply said "Make sure it's in that order"....I fucking love Aerosmith. That was 1992.
2) Paradise Lost 'Crown of Thorns' on upper left arm -one of the bands that helped meld my 1990s. Got it 2 days after seeing them at Donington in 1996.
3) The 4 Dark Judges on my calves - this one I had planned since I was 14. I waited 16 years to get it.
I could have gone out and got the third one first and probably (most likely) regretted it - the guy who did 1 & 2 was fucking shit and messed up both, but I don't care. But if he messed up the one he didn't do....oh, I'd be pissed.
Never been tempted to pierce, or even body modify - I'll stick to tattoos....wish I could stick to them more though. 3 in 23 years? Should have been more, but I'm a stickler for finding the right person to them since I got 1 & 2 done.

Aerosmith were great to listen to back in the early 90's.(And still are, I guess!!) One of my flatmates was really into them had most of their cds. We listened to a lot music back then.
Not that I would spill permanent on myself over anything unless I had to. I don't trust the idea of letting even a professional do this to me after some of the stories I've head.
