General / Favourite Prog Scenes Or Quotes
07 October, 2012, 04:30:25 PM

Here's just a few memorable moments from my thrill reading sessions.

The Ballad Of Halo Jones
When Halo suggests that they go outside of 'The Hoop' in order to make up time for their shopping trip, Rodice who is somewhat agoraphobic, threatens her with a Zen Grenade:
"Anybody even twitches, they got a head full of Alpha Waves.... and I'm not just whistling Erskold's Akron Concerto For Sublimuzer And Glass Percussion".

A report coming over the Holo TV:
After his promotion to procurator Fiscal, Mr Bandaged Ice That Stampedes Inexpensively Through A Scribbled Morning has added another three words to his name, he will now be addressed as:
'Mr Bandaged Ice That Stampedes Inexpensively Through A Scribbled Morning Waving Necessary Ankles'

Judge Death Lives
Judge Fear: "Gaze into the face of Fear!"
Judge Dredd: "Gaze into the fist of Dredd!"

The Apocalypse War
War Marshal Kazan: "Cancel that order!"
East-Meg Judge: "You mean you're not sending them to Siberia?"
War Marshal Kazan: "No, I mean they're not getting any winter clothing!"

Suggestions / Free Monthly CBR Download
05 October, 2012, 11:48:12 PM
Everyone likes freebies. How about a monthly free digital download in CBR\Z format. Possibly one off stories or even a collection, taken anywhere from within the 35 Earth years of thrill power. It could give life to stories long lost in dusty old prog collections and also give newer readers a glimpse of the past while helping to get them interested in the new material. Plus a very nice bit of nostalgia for older readers.

Or if the sound of 'Free' is too scary, a handsome shiny one pound coin for each download.

This sounds interesting, I wonder if it could be replica bio chips. Something affordable I hope anyway :)

General / Skizz
29 September, 2012, 01:36:50 PM
I recently read through Alan Moore's Skizz again. I found it most enjoyable, and it lead me to dig out book 2 and 3. Although written by Jim Baikie I still very much like it, and love his art on the story. Thrill power never ages, it matures like a fine wine. Might have to indulge in some Halo Jones soon.
What happened to Jim Baikie? Haven't heard of him for a while.

General / Judge Dredd Pin Badge
27 September, 2012, 05:58:28 PM
A guy on facebook in the Judge Minty Group posted a photo of a new pin badge he had bought using Ebay, a rather nice one based on the badge in the new film. It prompted me to take a pic of one I am fond of that I received around 1993 after having a letter published in the Megazine.

Film Discussion / Amazing Experience!
26 September, 2012, 06:41:58 PM
I've only just had the ability to post on this section of the forums, so I thought I'd share my thoughts on the Dredd film.

I saw it on the first showing of the day, on it's first day of release, I won't bore you with a review as such, but suffice to say from the moment Dredd replied with a "No!" when offered backup, I was just sucked in to another world. So many moments had me grinning like a Cheshire cat, while tapping my feet to the throbbing music. It was also my first modern 3D film having usually opted for the 2D screening, I had to see Dredd in 3D, and drokk was I glad I had to. Simply stunning, along with the slow motion sequences and buzzing soundtrack it was totally captivating. The visuals, the acting, the audio, the Dreddness, all of it made for one of the most exciting cinema experiences I have ever had. I can honestly say I haven't been so drawn into a film at the cinema since I first saw the Tantive IV being pursued by an Imperial Star Destroyer as it gracefully filled the screen with it's immense presence, many Moons ago in a cinema far, far away.

I found the ending to be quite moving, after Anderson hands Dredd his badge, the way Dredd looks at Anderson, then back at the badge in his hand, wiping it with his thumb, then another quick glance back at Anderson. It seemed Dredd had experienced a new thing, a new way of looking at citizens and also with the administration of the law through his experience with Cass and had admiration for her. Maybe the look on his face provided by Karl Urban's facial acting wasn't meant to be too emotional, but to me it looked like Dredd was really going through an enlightening stage. In terms of the film of course.

Anyway, loved the film and can't wait for the DVD. Patiently waiting for Amazon to let me know it is available!  :)

Welcome to the board / Borag Thungg!
11 November, 2011, 06:39:40 PM
Hi all. I just recently rediscovered the joys of thrill power after many Moons and thought I'd join the community while I was here browsing the shop.

When you check out certain things that you were into years ago you mostly find that they now belong in your past as you have grown older and they are no longer as appealing to you, but with 2000 AD and particularly Dredd, you are just reminded of how damn good it all is and start to enjoy it all over again.

I started buying the comics around 1990 and built up a nice collection including various specials, Graphic Novels and all of 'The Complete Judge Dredd' etc, my most valued item being 2000 AD Prog 2.

I have a personal interest Website and decided to create a page to be a summary of Judge Dredd and while I was creating the page it got me wanting to read the stories again. I quite like digital versions these days. It took a little to get into reading comics from my PC or Laptop screen but I'm hooked now and one advantage is that over time your digital versions don't take up more room than a Rigelian Battle Cruiser. So I hope to be buying each new prog in digital form. I've had problems making a payment on Clickwheel, I don't know if that site is still supported, and I noticed the latest 2000 AD on here isn't available for digital purchase. Is that because of the US release differences or something and they are available after a certain time for purchase?

Anyway pleased to meet you all and hope to exchange a few pleasantries on the boards in the future.
