I read 2000ad every week and find it hard to get excited by other comics. I get blinded by the sheer number of variant covers, crossovers & reboots. Behind an Alex Ross cover is this horror take on the Jolly Green Giant. There's no continuity - hear as I've not read a Hulk comic before. It's bloody good though - strong art & story. It's Al Ewing but not the craziness I expected from the Zombo-king. Try it but don't flick through first. There's a couple of page turns that are to die for!

I am just about hanging on to a handful of Marvel titles every month, but am almost ready to ditch the lot. Reckon I'll have to give Ewing's Hulk a chance, though! Thanks for the recommendation

It's a good start - the idea of bringing Hulk back to his horror roots is definitely better than anything that's been done with him in the last few years. I wasn't blown away by it, but it clearly has potential, and I prefer it to virtually all Ewing's other Marvel work. It'll be interesting to see where Ewing goes with the idea that Banner can be temporarily killed, but will rise again as a vengeance-seeking Hulk.

I loved Ewing's work on Loki and US Avengers, if his Hulk is even better it's got me super excited!

Knew there was a thread for this somewhere, just didn't expect it in the 'Other Reviews' section. Anyhoo found now and being a but later than expected is apt since I'm late to the party... mind did order this well over a week ago but its take an age to land...

waffle, waffle - in short GREAT first episode. Hope it doesn't fall into the obvious danger of falling into the 'Immortal' bit too regularly but you gotta thing Al Ewing is too smart for that (mind Dan Abnett wasn't in Ressurrection Man!). Always wanted a Hulk as monster book and I'm hopeful this will become just that.

Issue 2 was pretty good but I do have warning bells that each month Banner will have to die so The Hulk can appear  and that's going to get tired pretty quickly. Still it was handled nicely this month...

I could stand to have a few more stories of Banner dying and the Hulk springing to life!
It's a new twist on the 'what triggers his Hulking out' bit - used to be night time, then linked to emotions, occasionally controlled by willpower, sometimes it was a bit random.

It's top tier Hulk comics so far!

NecroBUMP!

Went into my local second hand records and comics shop today, and they had a pack of the first four issues of this run for £7, so I bought them.

First up, I had no idea this was a continuation of the "proper" Incredible Hulk series (as in legacy numbers under the issue number), instead imagining it to be yet another stand-alone series that will inevitably be cancelled and forgotten in a year or so. That this is part of the proper Hulk continuity lends it an "importance" it wouldn't otherwise have.

Secondly, it's bloody, bloody good. I have very little love for the big green guy in comics, barring a few instances- but this has grabbed me immediately. Four issues down and I'm dying to pick up #5 to whatever it's up to now. I want to see the savage Sasquatch (last time I read anything about Walter Langowski he was in a turtle neck sweater and completely in control of the beast, oh, and I was a teenager). Love the art, love Ewing's script and love the tone.

Anybody who has been reading this care to reassure me it doesn't tail off after the first four issues?

Gets better I'd say (see the Comic Book day Megathread)

Yes. I got the latest issue last week and it's still just as good. Proper scary, too.

Something horrible happens to the Hulk in the last couple of issues. Its gone from a good book to a great book. Wonder if Al Ewing has any plans for the 4th wall breaking She-Hulk. I don't know much Marvel continuity so apologies if she's temporaily dead, de-Hulked or in a parallel universe.

Trout

Nah, she's in the Avengers right now. She and Thor are doing sexual tension, bizarrely.
