I recently got a new tablet and bought the America e-book - which is bloody lovely  . But there doesn't seem to be any other e-books produced by 2000AD. Any chance of getting some more collected editions converted to the electronic format?

I think this more to do with them wanting to avoid the summer. They got a kicking when the weather picked up.

To be fair though, thats 4 examples you've named there, in 3 decades of comics, and I can't really think of many etc's. Plus, theyw ere probably not the most popular of decisions where they? Except perhaps the Dark Judges.

I'd agree that this is a slippery slope and don't really want to see 2000ad go any further down it.  I'd been giving this story the benefit of the doubt until now but I have to say that the Ho Gan line did seem a little bit off. A one line dismissal of an awful lot of work, some of it very good.

I may be on thin ice here but I'm gonna say that if this was anyone other than John Wagner I don't think it would be getting cut quite so much slack.  Even if he had intended to use the Dogs characters but couldn't, did he really need to then dismiss it quite so totally?

I'm afraid that this story is starting to leave a little bit of a sour taste.

I'll be back later with a review of the rest of the prog. Just had to jump into this little debate before it moved on.

I don't think resurrection is a big problem if its used sparingly. If Wagner has a good idea to bring Alpha back then I'm sure it'll work...just the same as he had good ideas for Mean Machine and The Dark Judges and they worked. If he doesn't have a good idea then it won't work...just like Chopper and The Angel Family.

You cannot resssurrect what did not truly live.  And the whole point of Rogue Trooper was that he could be resurrected/re-gened.

But aside from that, a good point.  The resurrections of Chopper and the Angels were nothing but regrettable, IMHO, not leats because having done it Wagner dropped them like a hot potato.  

I dunno...I don't see how you could read the end of Judge Death Lives as anything other than [spoiler]the death of The Dark Judges[/spoiler]

If Alpha pops up alive - which looks a bit more certain than before - it'll make 2000ad more like the likes of Marvel or DC who as we all know kill of & bring back characters on a very regular basis.

Quoted for Truthiness. Dredd is a brilliant character, and like most characters there's more than one way to write him. Too many people seemed determined to have every Dredd script be in the Wagner style. The creation of Dredd is a story of different creators (both writers and artists) adding to the initial genius of Wagner's idea - the far-future setting, the space-pirate look, the big chin, the evil brother, etc etc. As great as Wagner is the character is best served by a diversity of interpretation. I mean, I love Wagner's Dredd but when people can say with a straight face that only he should be allowed to use a character created by another writer then something's gone wrong with how fans percieve the character.

I don't know if any of you guys read Paul O'Brien's x-books review blogs over at ifdestroyed.blogspot.com, but IMO he's the best comics reviewer on the internet. Well he and Al Kennedy have done a pretty cool review of Prog 1650 for their podcast (link at the top). Although they're British, they both focus on superhero comics (they only reviewed 2000AD because I posted a comment suggesting it) and they obviously don't regularly read 2000AD. However I found it refreshing to see non-2000AD hardcores review a Prog.

I hope at some point somebody releases an English language version of Torturer (which he did John Hicklemen). That sounds even more off-the-wall than Requiem.

And Ledroit's artwork is amazing btw - I would love to see him do a Slaine one-shot - just absolutely goregous.

Will be interesting to see who it is....I remember when they announced David Tennant and I was reassuring all my mates - no he's really good...honestly...he was in Casanova and was excellent. Man I can't believe that's three years ago.

On V for Vendetta, I'm still amazed that they were able to make a relatively faithful adaption of a comic book about a terrorist in the post 9/11 world. Still blows my mind.

Oh God .... I think I am actually looking forward to this now. Damn...cue disappointment.

I'm with Iborl, reading this thread just cracked my resolved and the amazon for these books and the fraze collection was made. Sigh...that was mah booze money too.

Trevour Hairsine would be a good bet, especially as his big in America now (even though to my tastes his art's degenerated into a fairly boring Hitch rip-off). Plus it would be great to read The Three Amigos again.
