Another luvverly prog - Here goes:

Dredd - not a fan of Marshalls Dredds - way too cartoony for my tastes.

Caballistics - Once again the intrigue around Ravne and Kostabi provide the main interest - the central threat of the demons doesnt appear the main thrust of the story, which is good, but it would be nice to see a tale where the demonic threat they face is the focus of the plot, and the team have to use their wits to defeat the main nasties.

Interceptor - Great art, a bit wordy and somehow distressingly 'american' in those first couple of pages, but still interesting enough, so long as it doesnt just become MIB meets ER (MIBER? ERMIB? BRIME?)....

ABC Warriors - Groovy Robot is back!  Liked the idea of the "rentman" - hope Pat doesnt feel the need to explain it any more though - I reckoned that Deadlock would get spotted, but was hoping that the first robot we'd see here would appear and fight Deadlock on the psychic plane, given that the Shadow Warriors are supposed to be have similar powers.

Help! / Where are the Mugs?
21 April, 2003, 11:18:40 PM
When will the subscriber offer to get all 4 mugs be up and running?

Also, the mugs don't seem to show up in the shop every time I go in - I used the link at the top, and got nothing, but by using the big ad on the home page, the mugs miraculously appeared?  Whats that all about?

Big thanks to the subscription people - after a hard days gardening, the thought of three more days of hard graft before any thrill power was too much... but the progs arrived!  Hurrah!

General / Next Weeks Subscriptions...
15 April, 2003, 05:38:10 AM
What with the luvverly bank holiday coming up, the only cloud on the horizon for us Subbers is the prospect of a *gulp* late prog.  Any chance that next weeks issues might be posted off on Thursday? I know that they usually go out on a Friday, but with the Bank Holiday and all, if they dont go in the post until Tuesday, they're gonna be mighty late....

General / Death to all Aliens....
04 April, 2003, 01:26:58 AM
is out - nice book, but why are a fair number of pages from book one printed in such poor quality my eyes are bleeding?  My original bog roll copies are a darn sight better than some of these, most particularly the second page of the last ep of book one - it looks like a five year old has drawn around the art with a leaking felt tip!

Strangely, Book two looks unaffected....

News / Wagner does the TimeWarp!!!
05 March, 2003, 06:07:00 PM
Tripwire magazine features an interview with John Wagner where he discusses Dredd movies new and old, as well as revealing he is working on a story set in the past - "based around the origins of the Judicial system and the Great War".  And a certain Dredd fanzine producing boarder is helping with the research apparently.... hurrah!

Suggestions / Necropolis Now!
05 March, 2003, 02:13:47 AM
Hurrah! Got hold of Necropolis Book 1 in Forbidden Planet today for ?12.99 rather than the ?16.99 rrp - some sort of promotional offer thingy?  Good to see the message boarders suggestions about including unpublished stuff has borne fruit, both here and in the forthcoming Anderson book Triad.  Shame there was no space for the "Letter to Judge Dredd" story that precedes "Tale of", as thats quite important in Dredds resignation - what about a black and white collection of the "Question of/Error of Judgement/Case for Treatment", followed by "Bloodline" from 583 and 584 (never before reprinted!), plus the Ridgeway Deadman stuff? Reading the collection as it stands, it does throw you into the middle of things without at least Deadman and Bloodline... Will anyone listen to our pleas now Jamie has moved on...?

General / Judge Dread IS Doctor Sin!
15 February, 2003, 04:55:17 PM
Sorry if this has been discussed before, but reading through the old annuals, something struck me about a comment in the first TPO article..

"Mills had been working on a series about black magic and the Occult, called Judge Dread" The first story "had something nasty going on at Stone henge, a black mass.  Judge Dread recognises the leader of the Satanists as someone he had sentenced to hang. That was the cliffhanger to the forst episode."

Obviously, the story never appeared and Wagner used the name for his own strip - "The concept was shelved, along with the art for the first episode by Lalia. Plans to publish it in a subsequent annual came to nothing"

However, in the 79 Annual, there is a story that fits this description perfectly called Doctor Sin Its six pages long, but the art on the last two pages appears to be by a different artist - and the cliffhanger on page 4 is the "Doctor" revealing he recognises the cult leader as a man he believes dead!  So surely this is the original Judge Dread?

Megazine / SPOILERS! 1327 and Megazine
10 February, 2003, 06:30:01 PM
Pat Mills hair is back to normal - hurrah!  Look no further when casting Dredd, Rebellion...

TPO is good this month - nice to see David Bishop give such warm credit to Mr Diggle.

The Meg Dredds another rerun of old themes unfortunately, but OKish I suppose - Wagner really likes his muscley women...

The Juliet November thing is a bit weak though - a mishmash of ideas that doesnt seem to hang together very well - and STUBBLE!! Grrrr....

Daily Star Dredd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More please.

Over in the prog, Dredd/Aliens starts to develop a plot - Lets just say "I thought as much" about the last page...

VCs is a great self contained tale, though remain to be convinced by the art - its all a bit washed out for a start.

Dante as good as we expect, but whats this? More Telguuth - urk!

All in all, worth taking the day off for - keep up the good works

General / Best dialogue ever?
05 January, 2003, 01:51:52 AM
From Gene Hackman in Poseidon Adventure:

Priest: With sermons like that it's a wonder you're still an ordained priest.  Or are you?

Rev. Scott: The best kind! Angry, rebellious, critical - a renegade. Stripped of most of my so-called clerical powers. But I'm still in business!

The most unintentionally funny dialogue in movie history?

General / Heres an idea...
21 December, 2002, 02:25:25 PM
Already the prospect of three weeks without new thrillpower fills me with fear.  Any chance of offsetting the publication of the end of year specials so that one week we get prog 2004, and Megazine 214 hits us the week after.  Not only would you be spreading the thrillpower (meaning only one week without a new mag to read), you'd be spreading the groats.

What does everyone else think?
