Film & TV / Cliffhangers
02 September, 2013, 02:45:45 PM
My youngest sister got in touch recently, asking if I had any good DVD's or Blu-Rays she could borrow, in particular TV show box-sets.
We somehow got into a conversation about TV shows we watched together years ago (being the oldest kid in the house meant I had the first-born privilege of deciding what we watched on the 'spare' TV, and her tastes had to align to that).

Something we always agreed on was this; a good end-of-season cliffhanger was the highlight of any TV show arc (the denouement rarely living up to the set-up of course).
This obviously had more of an effect in the pre-Netflix / box-set / access to torrents time period when you had to actually wait 8 months to find out what happened next.
There are so many cool moments from so many cool shows (Star Trek, X-Files, Buffy, Angel, Farscape, Lost, BSG etc) that immediately spring to mind. It's almost impossible to choose one.

Well, after a bit of mulling it over, here's mine;

The end of DS9 Season 5; The 5-years-in-the-waiting re-take of Terok Nor by Gul Ducat.
Goose bumps people, goose bumps.

So...whats yours?

Games / GTA V
16 August, 2013, 08:51:28 PM
So; it's a mere 4 weeks away, and I'm busily trying to clear the decks of any other games currently in play (Darksiders 2, will you ever end?) to ensure all available gaming / real life time will be furrowed into this.

From what I've seen so far, I'm excited. Predictably so.
The announcement yesterday regarding an online mode akin to 'Red Dead Redemption' is the icing on the cake.
Nothing warrants your devotion like those first few days playing a new GTA- lookin forward to cappin somma you fools in the near future!

I had a pretty great time at my first 'real' convention last year, and am looking forward to this year's just as much (28th & 29th Sept).

Several really cool guests already announced (Greg Capullo, Paul Cornell, PJ Holden, Will Sliney, Becky Cloonan & Doug Braithwaite), and have just heard that Jock will be attending too.
Can't wait to get a Dredd sketch from him!

General / Luck o' the Irish
02 October, 2012, 08:54:54 PM
Since there were several Zarjaz 2000AD creators in attendance at last weekends Dublin International Comic Expo, I couldnt pass up the opportunity to get a few multi-signature Progs.
I have a spare copy of Prog 1802, topically signed by that Progs Dredd creators Mike Carroll & PJ Holden, and also signed by Rob Williams, Si Spurrier and former Mighty One Andy Diggle.

100% Free-raffle time Ladies & Gentlemen; just indicate your interest by thread reply and you'll be assigned a number by numerical sequence.
Winner wil be by a fair method such as using an upcoming lottery number.

Best o' luck!

Books & Comics / Legends of the Dark Knight (2012)
23 June, 2012, 01:24:19 PM
Anyone else getting this?
Its a very cheap (€0.79 / £0.69) series being distributed as a digital exclusive on a weekly basis on the Comixology / DC app.
Just finished the 3rd issue, bloomin great stuff.

I know it was mentioned previously on other threads, but this kind of format would be a great supplement to 2000AD / The Meg.

Based on the quality I've read so far, it seems I have a second default weekly purchase to make.

Books & Comics / Grant Morrison Sale
28 May, 2012, 10:32:35 AM
Looks like a 5 day Grant Morrison sale just started on Comixology.
All the usual suspects (The Invisibles, JLA, Batman), but I'll be goin for the as yet unread Doom Patrol.

Also, you could pick up WE3 for €2.37.
There shouldn't be an iPad or laptop on earth without that little gem downloaded.

Anyone have any tips on reliable & reasonably priced online CGC merchants?
I find EBay mildly tedious...

Books & Comics / Joe Casey @ Image
21 April, 2012, 12:23:58 AM
Just saw a 3 day Comixology sale on Joe Casey's Image stuff.
Anyone read 'Godland' or 'Officer Downe (Bigger Better Bastard Edition)'...looks good, but I don't wanna impulse buy a shed load of digitals without the Squaxx seal of approval!

Books & Comics / Andy Diggles Shadowland
20 February, 2012, 10:01:31 PM
Comixology normally have a Marvel sale every Monday- just picked up Andy Diggle's mini-epic 'Shadowland' for a paltry €3.95 (£3.45)
It's not the best Daredevil tale of all time, but may be of passing interest to former Tharg fans!

Was just browsing the (iOS) App store a few minutes ago... GTA 3 and GTA Chinatown Wars are going for an unreal €0.79 each.
