Bloody hell Van, I'm glad to hear the little fella's alright. For some reason I'd always assumed you had an equivalent to the NHS in Ireland, we winge about this and that in the UK but the NHS is something that we should all be grateful for. What with my brother being a type 1 diabetic and my Dad being in extremely poor health for years now, we've had more than our moneys worth as a family. If we lived in the USA 'd hate to think how much it would have cost over the years.

The fact that 47 million Americans have no healthcare insurance does not mean that 47 million Americans have no healthcare.  Most American states insist that healthcare insurance companies provide basic and emergency care to anybody, whether insured or not.  The insurance companies then put the cost of treating the uninsured onto the premiums that the middle classes and the rich pay for their insurance.  Seems like a good socialist policy to me!!!

No way is the American system as good as the NHS but I do find it interesting that they spend twice as much of their Gross Domestic Product on healthcare than we do.  Our system is not as good as we like to make out and their system is not as bad as we like to make out!!!

Yeah... but what about my satsuma..?

Gavin_Leahy_Block

Well it is good to here that your kid is on mend and I hope a cheap laptop comes your way soon.

Van Dom

Thanks for the kind words all. Yeah the little fella is fine now and its all a distant memory for him. Of course he got spoiled rotten by all and sundry and now has a nice haul of brand new toys to enjoy for his troubles!! He probably thinks it was a better deal than christmas!!!

I can live without the laptop for a little longer...but I don't know how long Rac is going to last without a satsuma... Maybe if we all chipped in a penny.... ;)

Good man, Van Dom!

QuoteYeah the little fella is fine now and its all a distant memory for him.

Yeah- that's the wonderful amazing thing about youngsters. My nephew was attacked and badly bitten by a dog a few years ago. He remembers nothing of it at all, but every adult in the family still worry everytime he goes near another dog...

Van Dom- so glad to here the little fella is okay. That is an absolute fucking nightmare. My youngest has a habit of getting out of cars and running round them- and no matter how much we yell at him, he won't stop doing it. I live in fear of something similar. So- brrr. I went cold just reading your post.

But they spend it unequally. Our NHS benefits from an economy of scale. The reason why the Americans spend so much on healthcare is because theirs is more expensive because of the profit motive. The same treatment costs more in America. It's like the difference between buying a coke in a six-pack from Tesco and buying a single coke from the mini-bar of a 5-star hotel.

My phone is dying, charger don't work. Serves me right for buying a cheap piece of shit from Tesco's.

On a similar note to Roger Godpleton, my phone now has no "up" or "right" button and it hasn't been able to synch with my PC for the longest time.  And I can't afford a new phone for a while yet.

So all the lovely pictures of my nieces and nephews and video of my mum when she was healthier and able to play with them are PRESENT but I can't VIEW them OR save them to my PC.  And given the dip in her health these last few months it's honestly making me really down.  Although she IS improving slightly so that MIGHT not be the complete nightmare it WAS.

Mike, you may be best just to rescue the stuff by paying to e-mail it somewhere.

As for a new phone, get thee to moneysavingexpert.com and use the links there. I got an amazing deal on a contract phone via that site at the turn of the year. Less than a tenner a month (factoring in the cashback; £15 a month otherwise) for 100 minutes a month and unlimited texts.

...salesmen.  >:(

Bunch of arseholes. Car salesmen who lie about the APR on finance.
Computer salesmen at PC World who lie about previous editions of Microsoft office software being incompatible with Vista to try to sell unnecessary updated versions.

We just walked straight out the door and bought the same laptop elsewhere.

Ah, fair point.  Hadn't really thought about that, Trout.  Thanks.

Proof these boards are more than JUST a lovely way to waste time.
