Slight change to our normal gathering this time!
Seeing as LSCC is on around the date that we would've had our gathering, it was mooted to combine the two. This doesn't mean that you have to go to the convention, far from it. This means that Dredd/2000 AD fans who go to these can also meet up with the forum members who don't.
As per the norm, the event is now up on our facebook page and has a drinking start time of 17:00 on Saturday the 14th of March in The Fox. This is just outside the actual Excel centre and where everyone goes afterwards, so it'll be crammed later. Obviously you can start drinking earlier but I put that time up as us nutters who will be on patrol will be binning it around then and getting cleaned up before wandering across.
Good call on combining these events.
Now do I book a hotel room or a berth on a ship anchored in the dock?
*Captain Pugwash theme here*
Dunk!
See u guys there! :)
Cheers
Chi
Excellent!
Looks like there should be quite a substantial turnout again
Will try to pop in for a beer - heading up to the con with the wife and kids, so we'll see how the sprogs are feeling after the events of the day before deciding on a beer.
Looking forward to it!
I'll be there.
Sweet!
U guys going to the Con too?
I've got a Saturday ticket

I'll go to the Con. I'll wait to see if there are any interesting panels before I decide on a Saturday only or weekend ticket.
I'll be there from Friday evening till Sunday, close of play.
The sprogs have decided on their outfits - Alice (4) will be Princess Leia (as you meet her in episode 4) and Erin (6) will be Gamora. It has not taken any pushing from us at all for them to decide on this.
We've bred geeks.
Henry Flint has said that he will be bringing artwork down to sell to fund his laptop addiction after his old one went bad.
Nice, that's the first table on my list now ;)
Just ordered a ticket to the Saturday LSCC. And up for meeting later. (Actally I'd have probably gone to the Southern Contingent meet-up anyway. And since I've never been to a comic con before I figure... why not do both.)
Bit of trepidation though. Not entirely sure what I'll do there. (The Comic Con, not the gathering. I know what to do THERE.... hello friends, hello beer, ....) Sounds like a silly thing to say, I'm just thinking... it'll be so BIG!
Looking forward to it, though...
I'll be there :-)
Huzzah!
Mardroid, have a look at the LSCC site and you'll see a comprehensive list of creators there. I'll see you in the queue on Saturday ;)
Thanks! I probably be there early afternoon but I'll keep my eye out for you and other familiar faces. And helmets. So to speak.
I'm in the Fox now, just making sure the alcohol is okay for tomorrow :D
Might not be able to make it to the pub for a pint afterwards, as heading off as early as possible to pick up some guinea pigs as a present for the kids.
CF - if you spot (or if I spot you first) a bloke with the Dark Judges tattooed on his legs, say hello. Girls are looking forward to meeting a Judge.
I shall indeed. Best we try and get them a lovely photo :D
I'm not going to be there this time, as I'd somehow missed all the hoohah and am at home with the boys while herself is somewhere in Europe.
Have enormous fun, do cool stuff and stay safe y'all.
SBT
Hope you lads and lassies have a formidable days comiconing and don't get too pished too early. Pacing yourself is key. Z ;)
Did I say I'd be there early afternoon? Probably mid/late at this stage! Sure I'll have a few hours anyway and if the judges are turning up in the evening* less time to wait. Not that I'm going just to see them...
* Assuming Steve wasn't making a drink related nudity gag. Sorry. Mind. In gutter.
Running a bit late.. What time does the convention finish today? I looked onsite but they only give the start times.
I did see that the various schedules finish a 4:30pm - 5pm, but surely the whole thing goes on much later?
Eight or so of us in the Fox so far, right next to the ground floor entrance (or at the far end of the pub if you're coming from the DLR bridge).
Made a flying visit in between familial duties and other stuff tomorrow.
Good to see a few familiar and new faces, hope everyone had a great time!
Great to see everyone there! Sadly I didn't take any bloody pictures but I enjoyed the tales that were told and the sausages and mash went down well :D
Had a great time, just a shame (sort-of) that we had to depart early to meet up with some other friends of ours who will be not-living-in-London-or-even-the-South very soon. Looking forward to the next normal pub meet, and next time there's a convention-based meet I suspect we'll attend the con itself as well as the pub.
Unfortunately I've got another London trip in a fortnight and couldn't afford two in one month! Hopefully I'll make the next forum gathering though.
This was my first comic convention.
Unfortunately I got there rather late, so all the events were over. So in the end it was... well... a big shop with lots of people walking around in costumes.
That being said, seeing the costumes was interesting.* It was a nice experience wandering around. And I bought a few things, namely Rogue Trooper Volume 1 and a little 2000Ad badge** from the 2000AD stand, V for Vendetta (with the possible exception of The Balad of Halo Jones, and possibly his Swamp Thing stuff, my favourite Alan Moore story... took me this long to actually buy it though...) and a Pop! Darth Vader Bobble head.
I can't exactly say I got my money's-worth (amusingly the doorman hardly even looked at my ticket so I could have probaby got in for free.... not that I'd do that...) but that's my fault for being a lasy begger on Saturday. Still as pleasant experience and it was nice to down a few pints and hand with the rest of the Southern contingent and other loud but friendly folk.
So note to self-
1. Check the programme.
2. Go earlier. At least early afternoon rather than an hour before the whole thing closes (in my defence there was no end time on the site.)
3. Take more money.
Edit- Oh yeah and a guy came up to me, pointed at my Hatchette Parkworks Dredd Badge and said "It would be Dredd-ful if I didn't give you this voucher for 25% discount at our online store..." which was nice. Although with that awful pun I think maybe he should have given me more.
* One of the coolest possibly Iron Man. One of the strangest, (seen outside the pub later) a girl with a red Darth Vader mask and red boots. Much as I like the humor in such a suit... her multi-coloured toy/model AT-AT was a bit much.
**Which turned out to work as an effecteive replacement button on my coat! Saves me all that business of sowing.
Nice one Mardroid, as first con :)
As for lessons learned. Yup, bring extra cash, turn up early, drink too much, catch as many events/panels as possible.

Thanks. I did manage the third one...

What a weekend, still going through all the pictures and taking in all the tales. Saturday night flew by and I think I may have ended up slightly merry. When I get 'round to it I'll post up some words and pics. But here are a few pics to keep you going for now, mostly from the con itself, as I forgot to take any in the pub ::) :-[

I had no idea Brian Bolland was left handed. No wonder his art is so distinctive ans so difficult to copy!
Is Johnny Vegas some sort of secret comic book fan or there for another reason?

Not secret at all - he's a full on geek.
He's a squax of long standing. Z
