Ooh new Music thread!
Not my area! Hehe enjoy it!
What another pointless thread. Up there with non-review Prog thread baggers >:(
What a great idea Goaty. I look forward to boring everyone with my musical recommendations.
I think the 'Music' section is a more than worthy addition to the Forum.
Cheers
Arh alas I don't get in touch with new music the way I used to. I think the last band I 'discovered' was Beth Jean Houghton and that was, what 2 years ago ... since then its returning to that old favourite of... well returning to those old favourites.
I keep hearing things on 6 Music but not getting around to following things up... I'm rubbish like that these days.
Voices from the New Music (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMTwSTutYe8)
Heavy metal and rock is my typical ;-)
Thought I'd bump this thread up to put new stuff on...
New Mastodon single out today 'Chimes at Midnight' - it's very them.

From 'Once More 'Round the Sun' out later this month :D
A very Belardinelli cover thingy going on there. Z
Really good, screams Ron Turner on acid!

All I can say if thank you for introducing me to Mastodon, CFM. Been working my way through their back catalogue but keep back tracking to all the singles I particularly like. March of the Fire Ants and Iron Tusk in particular kick serious arse. Though Curl of the Burl was a bit of a break in style (as far as I can surmise anyway) that was pretty awesome to boot.
Cheers for the heads up regarding the new Mastodon single CFM. Love their first two albums ,when I first heard 'Blood Mountain' I didnt know what to think, hadnt heard anything like it before, wemt out and got their other album, cant remember name has a big white whale on the front. Cracking stuff.
Havent heard anything from the last album as my ipods broke so havent bought any music in a couple of years, im well behind on my listening :(
Two albums out yesterday - new Wo Fat (http://wofat.net/) stonery psych stuff that is quite agreeable and they always have rrreeealll nice art...

and a new Boris (http://www.inoxia-rec.com/boris/) album which the genre-cats are calling atmospheric shoegazey post-rock which translates roughly as "absorbing or boring depending on your mood" - reviews have sadly been erring toward the latter although I love a bit of Boris so I'll get it eventually I imagine.

Continuing my recent habit of spending far too much money on PledgeMusic, I recently picked up these three wee beauties:
The Dowling Poole: Bleak Strategies
Classic English psychedelic pop-rock from Willie Dowling (Honeycrack/Jackdaw4) and Randon Jon Poole (Cardiacs/Wildhearts).
Catchy, eccentric and well worth sticking on repeat. Perfect for the summer.

Casualties of Cool: Casualties of Cool
Devin Townsend's latest musical venture is a very laid-back country rock kinda thing.
Maybe a bit too gentle for my taste, but Devin's never been one to stick to one style for
very long and his new Ziltoid album will be along soon enough to deliver the
planet-smashing terror I crave.

CJ Wildheart: Mable
Straightforward energetic pop/rock solo effort from the Wildhearts guitarist.
Less raucous than The Wildhearts, perhaps , but still excellent.
That's definitely not how you spell "Mabel", though...

Listened through the new Lana Del Rey album today and I'll second that recommendation. Lovely, sweepingly lush and melancholic, just what I needed this morning!

I'm enjoying this one a lot. Maybe a little bit slick on the surface, but it's a good mixture of their various styles. I don't know whether it helps that I prefer the amorphous, droney stuff to the Heavy Rocks silliness.
Just going to pop this here in the name of self-pimping! It's my new music thing POPOLAC, just some home demos I'm knocking together with the aim of maybe putting a band together for gigs once I've got enough songs kicking around. It's pretty different to my old band - it's not instrumental and not as riff-based, although The Box gets very riffy midway through. It's also taking me a really long time to get songs together and mixed because I'm doing everything myself and just here and there when I get the chance, so the third song has been 'almost done' for a couple of months now.
Anyway, I'm waffling, please give it a listen!

That's a quality production, right there, to say you did it yourself and not in a studio. Good voice too. Is that drum programme you've used or did you record live drums? I left a comment on your SC page.
Thanks! Did it on my PC in Pro Tools which meant that (apart from the guitars and vocals) I could do the whole thing silently with headphones and not annoy the neighbours too much. Took a while and a few mixes to get it sounding like that, still a bit rough in places but lessons have been learned that I can hopefully carry into the next one!
Programmed the drums on Xpand which came with the virtual instruments pack bundled with the Pro Tools software. I did look at some other drum software but it's all pretty pricey so wanted to see what sort of results the free one could give first. Really glad you asked that because it's good to know they're not immediately apparent as being fake, happy with that result!
Thanks for the comments, and cheers for giving it a listen.
Lawd knows why your last band was instrumental you've got a good set of pipes on you there Keith. Got a nice 90s alt rock feel to it - both are good but I love the build of The Box particularly. More of this sort of thing!
Thanks Owen, really encouraging to know you like it as I know you're a man of discerning taste! Will crack on with some more and see what happens :)
Have popped another song on Soundcloud - https://soundcloud.com/popolacmusic/our-lady-of-good-counsel (https://soundcloud.com/popolacmusic/our-lady-of-good-counsel)
The other ones took me a while to put together, so thought it'd be fun to knock out a relatively quick, fast and dirty rock song (the production is a little rougher but it seemed to fit the song nicely)!
They're bloody good songs and production Keef monkey.
especially nice atmosphere on the last one. The Box.
Cheers Zarjazzer! The Box is probably the one I'm happiest with so far to be honest, and the closest to the sound/style I'm trying to go for. Got another couple of tracks sort of halfway finished but struggling to find the time so might be a while before they're done!
It's taken me a while to get another song recorded, started out as an instrumental film scorey thing so spent a while deciding whether to bother with vocals. Think it's the first track I've properly used my DREDD octaver pedal on which was fun!

Uploaded another new song - https://soundcloud.com/popolacmusic/rattle (https://soundcloud.com/popolacmusic/rattle)
It's a bit of a cheesy driving rock song, just because the last one was relatively sedate, felt like rocking out a bit! There are parts I find cringey, but really happy with others so parped it onto Soundcloud anyway.
My fiancee and myself have a bit of a heavy rock band for a few years now, but we only gig and record pretty sporadically (hard to find the time to do it seriously nowadays). Just recorded our first new song in a very, very long time so will share it here in case riffy vaguely proggy metallic rock is anyone's thing.

I'm about a week late in commenting on this, but I did want to say I enjoyed your track - getting a bit of a cool Page Hamilton vibe off the vocals.

Nice, that's a comparison we're very happy with! Thanks for giving it a listen, glad you liked it. Hoping to get some more recorded soon!

Double blimey! Out Mariner-ing the Mariner!
High hopes for this - 'Final Frontier' was their best album since 'Seventh Son' - and I'm particularly glad to see a couple of Smith / Dickinson numbers in there. (Always the catchiest!)
Everything Everything have a new album out (and streaming on Spotify). Been hooked on their first couple of albums since stumbling on them last year, and only a couple of tracks into this one and it's blowing my mind. Fantastic.
