Prog / Prog 2008 - Cosmic

Most surprised to find this (& new meg) at my local thrill merchant this morning, even more so to find my top cover in there.

Looking very nice but the wife has banned me from reading it properly as I'm supposed to be at work soonly and don't want to spoil it for anyone but Stickleback just looks fatnastic!

Help! / Underground Quiz
28 October, 2007, 10:27:49 AM
The wife and I have been trying to complete a quiz where all the answers are underground stations.
For example, Taxi for a candle? Hackney Wick.
Line up for botany? Kew Gardens.

Out of 100 questions we have seven to go and a few we're not sure of. I'm not the best at cryptic clues and we've been trying to finish it for a while now. Any help would be appreciated.

1. Smashes Legend?
2. eg Cape Town or Jo'burg until recently?
3. Plenty of Oxo here?
4. What would make the appointed ruler catch fire?
5. Secret place of a socialite making first appearance at court?
6. A split island in the Med?
7. Wrong instrument for the Trumpet Voluntary, but right location?
8. With what and where William Tell was inclined to shoot the apple?
9. A Biblical tree?
10. From where the new England manager will be announced?

Other Reviews / EE25 - Maximum Kill-Points!
03 October, 2007, 10:35:29 PM
The Mean Team. A strip of two-halves.

The first time I read the second half of this in the weekly first time round and I thought then it was a bit odd. Story feels a bit forced as though the idea was good but the execution didn't quite work. Reading it again it's still not a great story but it's not bad. Obviously, the artwork helps especially all the odd little critters that appear, particulary the snakebunny.

I know I have read the first half before but couldn't remember much about apart from Henry Moon. Again, it feels like a nice idea that didn't quite work, as in a new exciting future sport strip in the tradition of Harlem Heroes & Mean Arena but didn't quite make the grade. Which sounds quite harsh but it's not meant to be, sort of a 'nice to read again but wouldn't want it in a graphic novel'. Perhaps that's what makes a good EE.

Off Topic / Hivemind Advice - Photographers
03 October, 2007, 11:36:37 AM
The wife and I aren't happy with the wedding picturs taken by the official photographer. We paid them an attendance fee and are supposed to be paying another fee for the photos, 300 odd pictures on disc with twenty in an album but at the moment don't feel happy paying them anything more because the photos are a bit amateurish to say the least.

Assuming we don't pay him anything does anybody know if there is a way of demanding the photos from him because we do want the photos but think we have already paid them enough.

We have already been in contact with the body the photographers are accredited with but their advice is still at the write a letter and wait stage.

Off Topic / Appreciation
31 August, 2007, 12:31:35 PM
Tomorrow, I'm getting married to Lisa, Oopsie Daisy, and I'm currently in the middle of writing my speech which contains lots of thanks to various people for various things as you do which has got me thinking about all the little things you appreciate. As an understatement, the wedding planning has been quite stressful, as has me selling my business and getting a new job six weeks ago, which with hindsight I should've timed better.

I've never been a prolific poster but doesn't mean I don't visit on a daily and in in recent weeks it has a an island of calm in a sea of organized chaos. So, I'd like to thank each and every one of you for making this such a nice place. God bless this message board and all who sail on her.

And if any one wants some wedding cake please send a stamped self addressed envelope......

Got this via a friend. Thought I'd share.

Hi folks.

Please excuse this mass mail-out but I really need to get the word out
 about
THE NAKED ARTIST, which has just been published, as the advertising
 budget
of Moonstone is miniscule. As far as I can tell, no one even knows that
 it
exists.

The blurb is below.The Diamond order number is:

Thanks for listening,

Bryan Talbot

 and
artists, from Simon Bisley to Neil Gaiman, from Grant Morrison to Jeff

³This book will do nothing to alter the general public's perception
 that
many of those working in and around the comics medium have not merely
 been
touched by the gods but have been comprehensively groped by them.²

Help! / A (small) favour to ask...
12 June, 2007, 07:55:19 PM
I received this email from a friend today, please help.

'A favour to ask, it only takes a minute....

Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on "donating a mammogram" for free (pink window in the middle).

This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.'

Prog / Prog 1539 Defender Of The Realm
27 May, 2007, 02:48:09 AM
So there I was, browsing through a load of Empire mags on the off chance of finding sodding Jar Jar when I found something more interesting on the shelf.

Nice cover by Richard Elson, had to check inside as I didn't recognize it as him. Apologies for the less than great scan.

As with recent weeks a very good prog, with Detonator X, Sinister Dexter and Nikolai Dante all moving along nicely. No Bob Byrne this week, a rather nice Terror Tale from Mr Wyatt with great art by new droid Lee Carter.

Dredd. I don't know when I started the habit but I have done it for as long as I can remember but I always read Dredd last. This prog I didn't see any of Dredd until I went back to the beginning and I was very surprised. Not going to say anything else other than 'wow'. Sorry to be annoying but you'll see why when you read yours.http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k25/lisa_loppit/1539.jpg">

Off Topic / Buy a Banksy . . .Get a house!
12 February, 2007, 12:55:13 PM
Co-incidently took the fiancee there at the weekend for a bit of Banksy-spotting. There's only about a half dozen left now in Bristol. What the link doesn't show is that the murals/grafitti, only that one is Banksy, go all the way along Cato Street to an alley where they continue left & right. Well worth a visit, just go during the day as it's not the nicest place in Bristol.

New year, new prog. Just had a quick look at this before work.

D'israeli's art just gets better & better.

Thought the insane spittle on Bad Bob was a nice touch.

* DEATH: THE HIGH COST OF LIVING #1
* DOOM PATROL #19 (first Grant Morrison issue)
* THE EXTERMINATORS #1
* HELLBLAZER #1
* HUMAN TARGET #1
* THE LOSERS #1
* LUCIFER #1
* SWAMP THING #21 (first Alan Moore issue)
* TESTAMENT #1
* TRANSMETROPOLITAN #1

Just go to Vertigobooks.com to download these issues, as well as debut issues from other Vertigo series.  It's a great way to sample a classic title at no cost!'

Although the inner geek in me feels the need to correct DC in the fact that Swamp Thing #20 was Alan Moore's first issue.

Received this from my fiancee. Isn't she great?

'Recently, I saw a technique for cleaning the inside of the glass on the
computer monitor.
It seems to work quite well. The technique is somewhat like cleaning the
inside of an aquarium occasionally. It is usually done with a magnetic
brush
attached to the inside of the aquarium, and it's controlled with a magnetic
wand from the outside. Well, now there's a better tool for the inside of
your monitor which is controlled by your cursor. Click here:'
