Hi QC,

Variant covers... I always feel annoyed with myself for tracking them down, but also feel something is missing if I don't.  But thanks to IDW I realise I do have my limits...!

My trusty Thrill-Power Management System has come up with this:

1844 (1) - Slaine, Simon Davis
1844 (2) - Slaine, Clint Langley
1771 (1) - Character montage, Chris Weston
1771 (2) - Tharg, Mick McMahon
1476 (1) - ABC Warriors, Henry Flint
1476 (2) - Shadow Warriors, Henry Flint
1476 (3) - Subscriber edition with both covers
1335 (1) - Dredd vs Aliens, Jock
1335 (2) - Dredd vs Aliens, Jock

Of course, you may also want to add these slightly more obscure/unofficial ones to the list:

1385 - Early editions had the word 'AND' in the centre of the cover art by mistake (Dredd by Charlie Adlard / Chris Blythe)
1159 (1) - Devlin Waugh, Sean Philips (with CD-ROM gift)
1159 (2) - Mazeworld, Arthur Ranson (no CD-ROM)
920 - Back cover was an alternative front cover :)
(Front: Character montage by Jason Brashill, Back: Dredd by Dearsley)
700 - Some copies had the free scancards on the inside by mistake, and the front cover had a special sticker stuck on saying some scancards were stapled inside.  Got to get that sticker ;)

Also some Megs:
218 (1) - Judge Dredd (2100AD), Henry Flint
218 (2) - Judge Dredd (2126AD), Henry Flint
218 (3) - Subscriber edition with both covers
211 (1) - Judge Death, Frazer Irving
211 (2) - Judge Death, Frazer Irving (after Bolland)
211 (3) - Subscriber edition with both covers

Any others out there..?

Great thread!
As somebody who's slowly, but surely, working backwards on a back issue quest, this will come in handy.
The recent Slaine ones, and the Prog 1771 variants, im familar with, but nice to have the other's listed.

Wasnt there a variant (Dredd?) cover for a prog that came bagged up free with some magazine or other (SFX??), or am i mis-remembering?

Perfect timing for this thread as this is what I'm up to on eBay at the moment - trying to get the variants and any bagged issues that are still sealed.
...because I hate you.

Yep, and me too!
Snagged the bulk of the bagged progs - originally as kinda one-off 'curio's' for my collection, but i think i may be working back to complete the run.
Well, thats the idea thats starting to form in my noggin, at least.

Now where to store an additional 700ish progs.....

Do you happen to know what the prog number was for that 'x-ray' variant, CF?

Dredd X Ray Prog 1589 with SFX mag. There is also 1450 again with SFX mag but only difference is words "free with SFX" on the front.

Then there are 1263 inside a slipknot goodie bag and Prog 2005 with a very blue Rogue on the cover (given away on the LondonUnderground)

Those are all nice and there was that other one that's in the Cellar

Skullmo

I have a few copies of Prog 970 with no bar-codes. They were made for promotional purposes as far as I can tell.
It's a joke. I was joking.

Great to hear about all the promotional copies... I checkout out the x-ray one on Barney and it seems familiar - wonder if the art was used on a starscan or something?

glassstanley

It was used as an ad for either the Prog or the Meg around the same time.

Thanks folks, very handy thread...

And yes, nutter alert!!

Not mine , but a link to a variant cover on eBay -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000AD-ISSUE-1159-WITH-VERY-RARE-HANGMANS-NOOSE-COVER-AS-NEW-COND-JUDGE-DREDD-/321192509068?pt=UK_Books_comics_Magazines_UK_Comics_ET&hash=item4ac890be8c

I admit it!! It's one of mine... If any boarders want a copy, drop me a PM and can reduce the cost as I won't have to pay the wonderful EBay fees!!
