Hi,
Mylar sleeves eh? I just bought the ones Forbidden Planet handed me in the shop. At the time I just assumed that the bags were archive quality - maybe even mylar, but I suppose in retrospect I should have known, considering that they only cost 5 euro for 100.

The old progs are in pretty bad shape, I can really see them disentegrating in another couple of decades. I'd almost be tempted to say: "screw the monetary investment value, I'll just reinforce their spines and repair any bad tears with chinese paper and archival gum." At least they might be still readable when I leave them to my son.

I must do some more research on this stuff. The funny thing is, I have hundreds of drawings I did as a kid that are 30-40 years old that were done on really crappy paper and they're still in great condition all things considered. They were stored really carelessly too. The worst damage was done by the dreaded silverfish!

Thanks folks.
I've been reading about different storage methods.

Years ago I thought it was supposed to be a bad idea to store old papers in plastic. Brown paper was recommended. But then, brown paper is poor quality and full of acid isn't it?

So then I discover comic bags and boards. Pretty much the standard approach the world over. Hopefully acid free storage. You know, archive quality.

But the bags I have are just polythene - not mylar or anything. And then I see you can get calcium-backed boards to absorb acids from the the comics' crappy, pulpy paper.

Fair enough. Then what? Yesterday I read about people storing fragile comics in open sleeves - to let the acids out!

Thoughts?

Hi Folks,
I'm looking for some more Bags and Boards for me old Progs. Any recommendations? - online sources?

I've used the 'Collectorline' ones from Dublin's branch of Forbidden Planet, but they seem to be in and out of stock.

Also, are the anti-acid calcium-backed boards any use?

Ta,

It's a bit like the '70s again.
I'm 43, getting back into drawing comics, and... rediscovering the fun of the arrival of the weekly comic! Every Wednesday, I have that special thing to look forward to. That little treat. I'd forgotten what it's like.

On the way to school in the late '70s/early 80s, I'd nip into a newsagent to see the latest Prog. So excited - yes! Pay my 20p or whatever it was, and revel in the latest Otto Sump/Dredd episode; sat in the corridors of my secondary school, a half hour before the rest of my class swaggered in  - heads full of nothing but football. Read - quick! - they'll be here - soon. If I was lucky? - my comic wouldn't be kicked from one end of the school to the other...

Now, I'm so impressed by the current DREDD artwork - and amazed to see Carlos still doing his magic (it's been over 30 years!) - black line - no photoshop - and still marvellous.

2000ad is now my weekly inspiration, as I commence my work on a career in comics - at last. Just as I always said I would. back then... Wish me luck?

Thanks Jacko (head slightly spinning).
Sounds hunting down the originals is the best way but that could take a lonnnnnng time.

I'm going to scour eBay for copies. I wish I had more of the old comics. The Satanus/hand grenade issue got ruined in the back of the car by our mucky dog!

That issue of Dredd and Spike tied to stakes surrounded by T-Rex certainly WAS the business!

Cheers Jacko :)

I'll take a look on eBay and see what's what! I am really looking forward to reading it all. When I was 10 or so, I was thrilled by Satanus and Spike's solution to their situation!

That's a bummer. And other editions do?

Hi folks, thanks for all this.
Yes, I gathered that those episodes wouldn't be available. They're in the original comics though I presume. So I gather that:

The Dredd Case Files 2 are 'comprehensive' with additional stories for added context.

The original 'Titan' version that's been mentioned - that's in 2 volumes? One in hard back - one in soft back? But out of print. Better quality printing but the pages fall out

Member Strontium 71 suggests that the best is the single volume Collected Cursed Earth.

Do any of these include the full colour artwork and covers?

Thanks,
John

Hi All,
I've been wanting to read the whole thing for many years. I never got to follow all of it issue by issue way back then...

So, The Cursed Earth Dredd Epic: What's the 'best' omnibus edition for me to get?

Thanks!

Hi Tip,
Sounds great - and I'm glad you still have some of it. Maybe you could upload it someplace?
