General / spreading the word
31 March, 2017, 09:13:57 AM
I am currently teaching at a college in the middle east and a colleague started teahing an elective course called 'comics and culture'. I donated a big pile of megazines and floppies (reluctantly) to help with the course material and it turned out that the arab kids love them as they have never seen anything like it before.

Seemingly the sinister/dexter floppies are among the most popular.

Some of the other tutors have started reading them as well. Hopefully have made a few converts anyway. :)

General / Question for the hive mind
10 January, 2017, 06:46:04 AM
Was talking to my son the other night about entropy and it reminded me of a future shock from years ago (drawn by John Higgins I think) set at the end of the universe where everything is just about coming to a standstill because of thermodynamic equilibrium.

Can anyone else remember this and what is was called?

Cheers

Just found out that he is story board artist on Game Of Thrones.Well in big man!

I loved his artwork on Dredd and Rogue Trooper War Machine (especially) in the late 80s. I remember those strips as ones that seemed to symbolise a transition period for 2000ad when it seemed to me that the comic was going with darker or more 'mature' story lines to reflect the mood of the older reader.

General / Occasional problems with subscriptions
30 July, 2013, 08:23:04 PM
Just come back from six months away and looking forward to working through the pile of comics and find a few missing (JD meg april and may and 2000 ad where stickleback makes his return).

Not a major disaster but still annoying as I was really looking forward to Insurrection coming back and so on.

I know it is the post office at fault and not the subs department but it is still annoying.

Does this happen to anyone else?

I have developed a habit recently of going on amazon and buying up 2nd hand reprints etc because in my usually half pissed state things that are for example 99p + 2.80 postage look like fantastic bargains. anyway looked at my credit card bill today and I have clocked up something 260 quid over the last 6 weeks or so.  :D

Ah well it is all good and they are genuine bargains - just means I will have a massive haul of books to woork my way through when I return to the UK in a few weeks.

Not to mention 6 months worth of progs and megs.

I doubt if I will end up spending any time with the family when I am home. :P

is tipping Dredd to be one of the movies of 2012. Any kind of publicity is good I suppose.

and although it is a shite movie I could not help thinking that Ray Stevenson would make an ideal Bill Savage. Anybody else see the similarity or is it just me being a bit pissed?

General / Subscription failure!
12 February, 2011, 07:47:31 AM
Just home from 3 months in the middle east and was looking forward to digesting a whole pile of progs. Said progs were gratifyingly there but when I sorted through them to my dismay there was no prog 2011!

This was the one i was looking forward to the most - arrgghhhh!

Is there anyway I can order this from the site?

Thanks for any help.

General / judge uniforms question
28 January, 2011, 07:58:56 AM
when looking at another thread about Judge Anderson I thought to myself "do Judges wear one piece jump suit type things or is it a jacket and trousers?"

I thought of a couple of instances where PJ Maybe talked about making Judges 'Trowsers' and also the incident of JD being caught short and having to use the bog in a restaurant and dropping his strides in the cubicle.

I reckon for practical purposes a two piece uniform would be the way to go but perhaps part of a Judges training is that they learn to control their bodily functions and only go for a shite at set times.

General / another question for the hive mind
20 January, 2011, 04:48:27 PM
Does anyone remember a sort of alternative universe judge dredd story where he is a medieval knight? I think judge death might have been in it.

My addled brain thinks it was in some kind of special issue where various characters were in alternative universes but I can't for the life of me remember.

Aging is a terrible thing.

Has anyone ever read this?

Someone gave me it the other day and I was really looking forward to it as I knew BB has drawn it.

I have to say though that the only word to describe it is 'shite'.

What were they thinking of?
