Title: Bristol COn update....
Post by: Dan Kelly on 10 March, 2005, 03:43:39 PM
Prompted by the SOlar Wind website update I wandered over to the Bristol Comics Expo site and noticed that tickets are now available.

So my weekend ticket is now booked up, I was just wondering what peoples plans are for the weekend.  I need  to find somewhere to stay - Unfortunately my better half is doing exams the following weekend so now won't be with me (my wallet is scared) - and am wondering about whether I need 1 or 2 nights hotel...

I don't think me mate Wonx would appreciate me crashing at his place pished...

Just a thought - I'll be due comp copies of a bunch of things released at Bristol, several of which may actually be on sale at the same table - perhaps you could just get together and stick them all in a big envelope and save on postage.

It's being run differently this time so the old rules don't apply, the price is likely to remain constant (he said).

While I have my room sorted, I also know someone needing to sort out a room for the Ramada, so if anyone is going please let me know.

Bou, my advice to you is try to find another Laydee and get a twin room at the Ramada as it is on site and works out at ?32.50 a night (each) that way.

It's a bit late, but I've been journeying through the circles of accomodation hell. Anyone fancy doubling up on a hotel room for three nights of mayhem? I've done it before and nobody called the police.

Mini-Bolt and myself will be in attendance for both the Sat and the Sun. Say Happy Birthday to the lad on Sunday for he will turn 14 at a con!

Art: Great idea, reckon that will be easy to get sorted.

Damn! I'm glad there're good people like dankell paying attention. I've got a hotel room booked for me and Usherette, but in the confusion of recent weeks (work, work, work...) I neglected to buy any tickets. Okay, they may still be available on the door, but it's nice to have them up front.

Bou, you could find some chubby geek to share with and get him to pay for all the room.

Surely it would be more dignified just to earn your hotel money down the docks?

Paul, I'm shocked.

What do you charge?

Bolt-01 would like to point out that the above statement was made for pureley comedic purposes and that I, in no way was shocked to hear that PVS would stoop to such antics to gain funds.

"Bolt-01 would like to point out that the above statement was made for pureley comedic purposes and that I, in no way was shocked to hear that PVS would stoop to such antics to gain funds."

I like the fact that he doesn't feel the need to dissavow his attempts to solicit the services of cheap prostitutes though...

Well, I've read what I've posted and what Bolt posted several times, and I still don't understand his post.  I mean, even I can appreciate it's supposed to be a joke, but it's from some new lame dimension where joke's operate in a differant and strange manner.

Let's try...

Shaz posted that Bou should find some chubby comic bloke to shack up with so he can pay the hotel room.  My response was that she'd probably retain more dignity by just engaging in common prostitution.

Bolt then says 'you're a prostitute, Paul?'

FutureQuack then says something that's recognisable to my grim and moody mind as humorous.  Ho ho.

Byron then either says 'Bolt (or Paul no idea which) wants prostitutes, and cheap ones at that'

Now, forgive me as I clutch my head and struggle to understand this.... no, no, it escapes me.

I don't understand it any better than paul
Title: Re: Bristol Con update...............

No, I think Bolt was saying that Shaz was a prostitute (as a joke), after which I made a so-called humerous posting about his post, which is why I quoted Bolt rather than yourself, Paul.

Post by: paulvonscott on 11 April, 2005, 08:42:53 PM
Byron, you say that Bolt said that Shaz was a prostitute?

If you were referring to Bolt's comment "What do you charge?" why didn't you quote "What do you charge?"...?

This is all very strange...

Let me try to clear up the confusion.

You suggested, in response to Shaz's suggestion that Bou shack up with a chubby geek, that it would be more dignified to earn your money down the docks.

Bolt then pretended to misunderstand your suggestion, and take it that that was how you WOULD be earning your money for Bristol (i.e. peddling your booty down by the docks).  This was silly in itself, as any good Bristolian could tell you, since the dens of vice are far, far away from the water's edge.

The prospect of Cosmic Ray in a minidress, moustache and fishnets seemed vulgarly funny enough for me to extend his remark a little.

I still have absolutely no idea of what Byron was going on about, though.

"You suggested, in response to Shaz's suggestion that Bou shack up with a chubby geek, that it would be more dignified to earn your money down the docks."

No, I sugested it would be more dignified for Bou, not me.

And it's you who have introduced this transvestite fantasy.

As for Bolt, I have no idea what he was thinking.
Title: Re: Bristol Con update...............
Post by: Dudley on 11 April, 2005, 10:07:23 PM
This is why we need to bring back the old term "one".

Clearly, you meant specifically that Bou could earn her money down the docks, but what came across to both Bolt and myself was that ONE could earn ONE's money down the docks...

I frequently interject transvestite fantasies, to the extent that I've given up apologising for it.

That doesn't work FQ.  Do you want me to go back and replace 'your' with [my] or [one's] so it does?

If I said your house was on fire, would you come round to my house with a bucket?

Oh, for God's sake! I've got better things to do with my time than explain the bleeding obvious (well, actually I haven't, but that's hardly the point, is it?)!

I was making a point of the fact that Bolt felt he needed to point out that his statement was actually a joke, whilst  he completely failed to mention that his request as to "How much do you charge?" was also a joke (which it obviously was).

Now don't pester me again!

Honestly, this country...

Sorry for any confusion PVS, I was implying that you were earning your printers fees in that time honoured tradition of Selling yourself.

However, due to being a pencil monkey it didn't work very well.

Can we leave this now and get back to who's coming to Bristol for the Expo?

Obviously most of it is spent accusing each other of being prostitutes and the arguments over grammar and who meant what, but generally it's a lot of fun, WoD.

You can probably buy tickets on the day to be honest.

Post by: Dudley on 11 April, 2005, 10:56:37 PM
Paul, the "your" in your original sentence was ambiguous since you were replying to Shaz, not directly to Bou, which is why the house on fire thing doesn't stand.  Would you run up to Shaz and say "your house is on fire", meaning Bou's?

Anyway, which superstars are going to be at Bristol?
Title: Re: Bristol Con update...............
Post by: WoD on 11 April, 2005, 11:12:51 PM
Didn't I just say I was going...you mean to say you need more than that???
Title: Re: Bristol Con update...............
Post by: paulvonscott on 11 April, 2005, 11:38:01 PM
I could have replied to Bou's post, but I wasn't replying to her comment, I was adding to Shaz's.  I didn't mention Bou's name because she was the sole subject of the 'get a room' discussion.

My post is only ambiguous out of context and even then, it doesn't refer to myself.  If you didn't read the content of Shaz's post you could think I was talking directly to her, but think that's it.

I'm not sure I should have to worry too much about what I psot for fear some strange joke should be made (unless Wils is about, then vigilence is at it's upmost neccesity).

hmmm, nice conversation, i get to pay double what everyone else is cos i'm a fecking female, & also get called a prostitute in my absence.

that really makes me feel better about being Bou no mates & travelling the other end of the country by myself just to be some minority intrest geek fan groupie sad wannabe. maybe i'd be more dignified saving my money towards the leave the country & get a life fund.

( but then i'm not having a great day, having worked 13 hours with 4 bits of toast, no lunch, no tea, no sit down or tea break for ten of thouse hours, my personal life is wuthering heights & jane ayre combo & my gran died this morning.. oh and joy it starts again in 6.5 hours..except i've no more grans to lose, so finding that people are talking about me & prostitution behind my back is just great )

cheers guys you know how to make a girl feel respected.

Sorry to hear about your gran.
