Suggestions / Stop. Just Stop!
04 April, 2023, 11:18:48 PM
Been catching up with my backlog of unread Judge Dredd Megazines. Lots of pluses such as the sublime Lawless and the stunning artwork with the new Dark Judges saga, unfortunately there is something very very wrong with the latest issues.

That's the stinking pile of crapola that is IDW's Mega City Two. My God, it is dire. It makes Space Girls look like Tolstoy. The writing is risible with lame cartoony artwork to match. It bears virtually no resemblance to to Dredd's world nor its titular character. How on earth does anyone buy this garbage from IDW?

More importantly, why inflict this abomination on your loyal readers? The first Dredd movie was traumatic enough.

So stop. Just stop!

Suggestions / Laurel Docks
09 December, 2022, 01:02:57 PM
I do look forward to reading the Meg every month, but sometimes I confess I don't always read it in it's entirety, either being too busy or having gotten distracted. I do make a mental note to come back to it and finish it, but again I confess I sometimes I just plain forget.

Anyhoo having some time on my hands I decide to spend it wisely  ;)and have a huge  binge on back issues, and low and behold found an absolute gem. The Third Person (Meg 385)  by Michael Carroll is for me one of the best one-off Dredd's ever written with perfect art to match by Carl Critchlow.

A script so succinct and sharp you could slice toast with it, and incredibly funny , never laughed so much at a Dredd story since 'Finger of Suspicion' by the mighty John Wagner.

The art is a perfect match for the story, Lauren Docks is in a striking red top but is given an ethereal quality by Critchlow, which adds to the mystique of the character.

Please, please, please could we see more of this character

Suggestions / Judge Dredd TV series
17 September, 2022, 10:04:49 PM
Not been on this forum for quite a while but decided to post as its so darn hard to find info on the net as to exactly where we are with this -its been years since it was announced. I know covid delayed things but after that ....a lot of radio silence.

There is a thread on it on here but STILL no recent updates or Facebook from what I can see.

SO -MAKE AN ANNOUCEMENT!!!  Not just on here but in 2000AD itself -is this project dead or going ahead!??

It's not like we haven't been very patient. Not kind to fans leaving them in limbo for so long or making them scour the net for hours periodically to see what's what.

Thanks in advance.

Suggestions / Texas City
16 March, 2018, 11:46:25 AM
Could we please have a direct or indirect Dredd world story set in Texas City?

Every since seeing the fantastic Texas city panorama shown in the Judge Child Quest, I have wanted to see much more. The only direct story since then I can recall was Dredd collecting 'bounties' in Texas City in the Megazine, way back.

Since we have the Michael Carroll 'Every Empire Falls' storyline in place, (with a Mega City Judge currently in place as their new Chief Judge) now would be an ideal time to go back and explore that 'world'.

Many thanks

Suggestions / New Landscape of Mega-City One Post DoC?
24 August, 2017, 12:01:29 PM
Well its been quite a while now, so you can't fault a lack of patience, but why oh why has no overview (ie a map) of the denuded Mega City One,  been shown for the benefit of the readership?

Entire sectors must be laid waste or almost empty given the severe drop in population -has everyone been moved to central sectors to ease policing and control, or are there many 'ghost sectors' where structures still stand but with hardly any inhabitants? What is the new shape of the city?

Straight after the Apocalypse War saga ,I seem to recall a revised map of MC 1, giving the new lay of the land, why not after DoC an equally seismic event?

Remedying this would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in anticipation.

Suggestions / The Dredd Synopsis
10 December, 2014, 05:07:09 PM
'Home to 50 million citizens crammed into gigantic citi-blocks, overcrowding is rife, unemployment endemic and boredom universal'

Post Chaos this doesn't make complete sense. Most of the city must be empty after more than three quarters of the citizens perished, so why is it still crowded?

Sure some areas would be uninhabitable and corralling the populace together to make them easier to police/judge does make sense but this has never been explained.

Why is there mass unemployment? After the Apocalypse War the entire population was drafted to aid in rebuilding, perhaps an even bigger job now. Even after rebuilding was complete and with the city now desperate for cash surely they would make the cits work for their welfare cheques rather than just hand them over?

So with swathes of the Meg clearly empty, please could we have a map of how the city looks now.

PS A follow up of what happened when the Chaos Bug hit abroad, when an agent got stranded in Europe too would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Suggestions / Bring Back Cursed Earth Koburn!
05 November, 2014, 11:13:45 AM
Not much to add beyond that

Loved it, seems to have been a long time since we've seen this fantastic character. Plenty of scope for more stories and of course Carlos MUST be the one to bring him to the pages of the Megazine.

Fingers crossed (you know it makes sense ;).

Suggestions / The Seven
25 May, 2014, 11:39:16 AM
Way back in  Prog 2016 (October 2000) Dredd asked the deputy Chief Medical Officer how many clones there were of himself in the works (so to speak) ,to which the reply came 'seven'.

We already had Rico (who is currently a long time absent from the pages from 2000ad -Please BRING HIM BACK ); then a short while later came Dolman.

But what happened to the others?

Would like to see a resolution to this question, which could be very interesting given the original Dredd is becoming ever more aware of his own mortality.

My entry into the suggestion box.

Many thanks

Just a thought.

Off Topic / Masons
15 June, 2013, 01:22:21 AM
Encountering a little local difficulty with someone who is apparently a Mason.

Seem to have stumbled into a strange little world here, there are a few of them about and don't seem to be shy about scratching each others backs. Here is the question -if you ask someone if they are a mason, are they under some kind of oath not to admit they are one?

Asked a couple of people separately who I know and they both said yes, (alcohol had been imbued), and both later recanted and said they weren't. I don't believe they were being truthful when they recanted, but of course can't be certain.

I know some Masons do admit being members and others have appeared on odd programmes, but they impression I get is that as a general rule they are under guidance not to admit being one to non-masons.

Anyone know the script here?

Film Discussion / Kickstarter
04 February, 2013, 07:20:24 PM
Okay well as far as longshots go this is up there with the very best, but read an interesting article in the Telegraph today

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/technology-companies/9839540/Kickstarter-entrepreneurs-doing-big-business-in-the-UK.html.

The site supports a range of projects including inventors, artists, small business and FILM projects from what they call crowdfunding. Essentially individuals donate towards a target that is set and are rewarded on a sliding scale for their donation. If the target is not met in its entirity within the deadline date no money is taken from the donors accounts.

A number of film projects have been successfully funded, amongst the highest being around the $400,000 mark.A long way short admittedly, however, the properties put up were extremely niche and still made their target.

If investors could be found to put up say half the money required for a Dredd sequel on the condition that the other half is found through private donation, which would help guarantee their investment then possibilities arise.Whilst not doing well at the box office,  DVD/Blue Ray sales should make Dredd profitable. If half the risk is removed then maybe a sequel would not look such a daunting prospect.

Rewards offered for supporting films on Kickstart seem to go from blog-updates, free merchandise, artwork, free tickets to the launch or previews and so on.Dredd could offer ,according to the size of donation, more sizeable rewards -props from the film (no small thing), watching the film being made, the part of an extra, even a line of dialogue if the donation was large enough.

Of course the powers that be would need to be on-board including Karl and a script presented

More realistically , if they wanted to try to launch something smaller and more manageable from the 2000ad universe instead this might be something to look at (why did the ABC Warriors animated series not follow through, was that purely financial problems?).

Just throwing this out as an idea

Suggestions / The Return Of Sov Judge (Cadet) Izaaks?
31 October, 2012, 07:34:21 PM
War Marshall 'Mad Dog' Kazans lieutenant was an interesting character. In the aftermath of DoC it would be intriguing to see him and Dredd together 'sharing' their collective guilt after all this time, in some appropriate way (not both on the couch of course ;) but their differing perspectives.

Just a thought.

Quick question ,there was a poster offered once with a view of Mega City One (as if you were looking out of a window) on offer if you took out a subscription. It looked great.I didn't want/need a subscription as I prefered to pick my copy up every week.Though I could get hold of one through the 2000AD shop or Ebay or
something but no joy.
Zero success to date.Any suggestions?

Suggestions / Bring Back the Ten Seconders!
30 May, 2012, 10:40:59 AM
Recently re-read this excellent series and would love to see it return.

It had great characters and wit about it and a very interesting premise. The series did have 'kind of' an ending ,but left so many questions still open that there would be a lots more options to explore. It's always seemed a waste to me that this was so short-lived.Just a nudge to the powers that be - :D

General / Comic Heroes Features
19 March, 2012, 10:23:32 PM
Bit of a plug I know but I'm sure the moderators won't mind.Picked up an issue of Comic Heroes today in Smiths out of curiosity and glad I did.
Three 2000AD badges on offer had me already taking it to the till (yeah, I know ,Im an easy mark), but there was happily a lot more inside.Michael Molcher did a very good article introducing Dredd to the uninitated giving what I thought was a very comprehensive yet clear overview ,with helpful tips how to catch up on the huge history.

Surpringly there was another equally excellent  article on Massimo Belardinelli ,again by Michael Molcher.I absolutely loved his work, the guy was a genius, so was very surprised to hear from Pat Mills that he didn't get the international recognition and security he deserved.I had always taken it as read that he did.Glad some fans caught up with him in his golden years to remind him how loved and appreciated he was.

Icing on the cake being Dredd, Nemesis, Slaine and Halo Jones all featuring in the top 50 comic heroes of all time feature.

All in all very pleased I stumbled across it.

Suggestions / Meet Darren Dead Again
09 January, 2012, 02:37:49 AM
For the Megazine the return of Insurrection is numero 1 when it comes to a welcome return, but following Koburn and Anderson (a strong Anderson story anyway , Childhoods End seems a lifetime ago)  for me ,what I would love to see is that undead snecker Darren Dead and his wonderful assistant Elaine.
Re-read the Panda killer story the other dead and thought this is one guy we MUST see again.
So.......over to you
