This thread makes me feel left out for not having watched the Star Wars films.

Maybe an odd one, but... ButtonMan 1.

I'd never seen Arthur Ranson's artwork before, mind, or anything at all like it, so I was just stunned by this artwork that looked almost photographic. I hand't realised comics could seem so real... and then that early episode where the Button Man is striding toward the barn where Harry's hiding across the darkened field, rifle in hand and night goggles on his head... Nothing much to think of now, but a chill went up my spine.

I think that was one of my very first 'I'm hooked' moments back during my early tooth reading.

I dunno Trout, I think that pic's more or less right, even though it does look a bit odd; a man's arm extends the length of the torso and ends more or less at the same level as the groin - so taking his hand as the starting point for his legs (which are the longest single bit of a man's body) leaves you with a man that's not really especially tall.

They could've given him a longer bed, though, poor chap.

1) Everyone loves a bad guy, and they don't come much badder'n... Torquemada.

An utter, utter loon, scarier for the fact that he's so consistent in his lunacy, a character even more driven and single-minded than Dredd, spends half his appearances as a gibbering, wobbly phantom, dies more times than I can care to remember and comes back just for the sheer hell of it, gets all the best lines during the Nemesis saga and just jumps off the page via the sheer intensity of his ego.

2) Why buck the trend of the thread? Hellboy, because he's world-weary without being cynical, wise-cracking without being smug, stoic without being dull... in fact, he's very like Wagner's brand of quiet hard-man hero like Dredd and Alpha. The best character Wagner never wrote.

intentional or not, a reporters name changes between Kurt and Kent Brockman in nikolai dante, i believe its during the celebrations of jena's engagement to the media mogul fellow.

Halfway through Meltdown Man, Louis the Lionman suddenly starts being called Leo the Lionman, and goes on to be called this right to the end. It wasn't even corrected in the EEs.

80-100 dollars a volume.

What.....?! Extortion! Ours are currently just over £30 a volume, which means all three would set you back about £100. Far too much for me at the mo, so I'll still be waiting for a price drop, but still not too bad considering how much you're getting for that.

I know there are a few fans of this series on the board, and I just found out the first set of this is nearly out (25th, according to Amazon). Might wait for the price to drop a tad, though.

As much as I was looking forward to finally owning the series on DVD, I was not looking forward to the 22 seperate discs I thought I was going to have to buy - but I won't have to! It's coming out in 3 boxsets of seven episodes apeice, with a ton of extras. They really seem to have gone to town on these.

Set 1 looks like being all the 'Indy as an ickle boy stuff', moving in the latter few episodes to 'Indy as a teen'. Which means Set 2 will be 'The War Years' and maybe some of 'The Spy Stuff', which is where the series really earned its wings. Can't for the life of me remember what happened in the latter episodes, though. 'Indy studies for his archaeology degree'?

General / Re: Judge Dredd Series?

What I love most about Judge Death is that he genuinely doesn't see himself as the bad guy - in his mind he's a lone crusader for justice trapped on a world of sinners that are set against him. To him, his logic makes such perfect sense that he's baffled when others can't see it - there are several great moments early on when he clashes with Mega-City Judges and cries something like,

'But you're fellow judges! Why do you try to prevent justice?'

For him the world only exists in simple black and white terms - judges and sinners, the living and the dead - it's really the logic of a child, making him quite a pathetic figure (if he weren't so damn scary). There's never a 'ho, ho, ho, how evil I am' moment, and he's all the better for it.

When's the date for this? Friday? Hmmm....

Trouble is I don't like starting entries for these unless I know I'll have time to finish them, which is rarely certain.

I've got an idea for this (tooth related, in fact) but as usual it'll depend on whether I find time to draw it.

The thing i dont get is just what the point of the python knight was, as he seemed quite willing to let anyone just walk up and take the grail without offering any resistance!
Not much of a guardian, really.

But he tried, didn't he? Swung his sword angrily at Indy but then fell over and realised he wasn't as young as he used to be, saying something like 'Gaurding the grail is a young man's job.'

The idea was obviously meant to be that sucsessive people would take over the role, but as time moved on and the importance of religion faded in the West, nobody new came to take over from the Knight.

I used to think Thryllseeker's rambling account of raw-egg-cake-related-mishaps was the best thread on the board.

Then I came here.

The two biggest fears that have kept me from trying this -

Either
a)The only people who turn up are sad, lonely blokes like me.
or
b)Not a single girl would tick me as a match and I'd leave even less self-confident than when I went in.

Actually Peter, that's not so very different from my hamfisted attempts. :-)

Did you draw from memory or use reference? I did, but not so's you'd notice. Never again.
