Prog / Re: Prog 1858- Gorehead Unchained

Cover: might look good on the shelves, but I'm not keen. As others have said, it looks nothing like what it's supposed to be depicting.

Dredd: a great milestone in finally having a woman writing Dredd solo. I enjoyed the Rennie/Beeby collab., and she's done a great job here. The feel of the strip so far is spot-on, and that's almost the hardest thing to do in Dredd. Good match-up with Burns, too.

Brass Sun: one of my favourite things of late. Relatively slow-burn, but there's always something new and interesting going on, and I imagine this will be a superb collected strip.

Flesh: I've disliked this less over the past few weeks. It's still nothing I'm excited to read, but I'm not considering skipping it right now. I'll be happy when it's over, though, and—inevitably—will sign at the "end of book X" that it will almost certainly get, so we can gear up for another run.

3rillers: didn't outstay its welcome, and was perfectly good in terms of art and script. Nothing particularly original, but the extra space gave it room to breathe and made it more memorable than a Future Shock/Time Twister would have been.

Damnation Station: I like some of the concepts, but just can't bring myself to get excited about this one. Still, there are good moments, and it's still readable.

Overall, a decent Saturday morning prog for me.

A very quick Google found this, which might be worth asking about: http://www.akirapress.co.uk/durham-red-empty-suns.html

Judging by the Kickstarter, cash-flow is the problem, and with books that were expected to be out not on sale, that leaves them exposed. Still, the Kickstarter's currently on $112k, and so it'd be a shock if in nearly four more weeks it can't make another $38k.

Have you not seen Moon? If you haven't, do, although avoid reading anything about it before doing so.

Broadcast break in the US as well (as happens quite a lot out there)—ep. 6 is broadcast on the 5th.

Boo really deserves all 10 points, however. Fab.

Prog / Re: Subscriber problems?

I did the same with a Meg lapse. As ever, Denise was on hand to ensure I didn't miss anything. First rate service, and easily the best of any magazine company I've ever had a subscription with.

Same here, and I quite liked the other X-Men films.

You probably don't want to look on eBay at all the second-hand part-used cosmetics for sale. It's a bit grim.

I'm so looking forward to Swimming in Blood. The Devlin Waugh trades were horribly disappointing, with SiB being a mess from a repro standpoint (moiré city) and Red Tide missing a load of captions. The character deserves so much better, and I'm thrilled Waugh will be getting a second go. Maybe I'll finally be able to give away my Hamlyn collection!

Graham Linehan is lovely. He also pretended to jump out of his loft office window when I interviewed him once, so make of that what you will.

Film & TV / Re: Alien vs. Aliens

The original Transformers had fair amount of good. The opening, where the helicopter ominously approaches the army base, before abruptly wiping it out, was almost perfect. It set the scene—and indeed series—a bar that it never reached again. Then came the lack of personality for Decepticons, ill-advised and over-long attempts at humour (such as the Autobots trying to hide around the house), and the sequels, which were unrelenting shite. The third one was particularly stupid, wiping out characters for no good reason, introducing others and then giving them bit parts (Shockwave, in particular), and having Decepticons suddenly forget they could fly, so they got wiped out doing a WW1-style trudge towards heavily armed humans.

I guess for me, I want some kind of internal logic. A film can be throwaway and straightforward, but it still needs suspension of disbelief to not snap you out of the moment. Dredd had that, despite a paper-thin plot. So too did Robocop, Terminator, and many other sci-fis.

They should use Interlink next time, which as far as I can tell is some kind of anti-Yodel. Probably pricier though.
