: Dreddcon VI Sketches Thread.
: Artificial Idiot 02 October, 2005, 04:00:15 AM
I thought that seeing as I was home, and had one of my sketches uploaded, I might as well kick this off.

As it was bound to happen!

First sketch of the day: Lobster Random by Boo 'Can I do you a Random Lobster Instead?' Cook.

(sorry it's so huge...)

First one up, Sino - Cit Judge by Colin McNeil.

Ack, sorry Bolt!Any chance Wake can take it down and I'll post a better sized one later? Be very gratful if that's possible.

That's a pretty good idea Max, really nice sino-Judge as well!

My second one, a Geek from Anthony Williams (who is not Andrew Currie... As my nerve-addled brain suspected him to be.)

The next bunch are part of a theme i wanted to try out this time - to see the current Droids taking on classic 60's/70's British Characters.
First up, Dredger by John McCrea:
: Re: Dreddcon VI Sketches Thread......
: Mangamax 02 October, 2005, 04:37:35 PM
Billy The Cat by the brilliant Dylan Teague:
: Re: Dreddcon VI Sketches Thread......
: Mangamax 02 October, 2005, 04:39:56 PM
Love all the sketches but this is my second favourite - Janus Stark by Dom Reardon.
So good i'm gonna update it as my icon - will be in touch soon Max.
: Re: Dreddcon VI Sketches Thread......
: Mangamax 02 October, 2005, 04:43:06 PM
Saved the best till last - The Spider by Jock.
Brilliant interpretation of the classic character.
Made all the better (and this applies to all the Droids i put on the spot this way) by the fact that there was no warning whatsoever of what i was gonna ask.
Thanks chaps - really appreciate it!

Max: I would if I could. But like I already said, uploaded it to imageshack with no control over deletion. I already have a resized version, so if Wake could delete the original I'd be very grateful to him...

Oh and Max, I was watching as Dom was drawing the Janus sketch. Completely mesmerised by the level of detail he was putting into it.

Who actually drew the mighty 'Scorpitross'?
: Re: Dreddcon VI Sketches Thread......
: Al_Ewing 04 October, 2005, 02:00:54 AM
Lee O'Connor (spelling possibly incorrect) is the genius who designed the 'look' of Scorpatross. He gave it to me, though, and I don't have a working scanner... I'll see what I can do, but perhaps Lee should hurl caution into the hyperwinds of the Death Planet and summon the nine satanatomic eyes of Mahu to watch over his demented sleep as he invokes the double-doom deadliness of...

SCORPATROSS II: TWO BEAKS ARE BETTER THAN ONE

And then when I finally get hold of a scanner they can fight it out online in a battle of PSYCHEDELIC VENOM (Spurious's touch I believe).

Yes, that D'israeli is a clever chappy. Even watching him draw something as simple as Dredd was a delight.

Have to admit, I was going to chicken out and ask him for something else... Couldn't think of anything he hadn't already done at the time though. (Glad I didn't now...)

That "one sketch fits all" thing bugs me.
I've got a Dylan Teague Dredd that's appeared in quite a few other boarders' sketchbooks.
These guys are very talented artists, so it just feels kinda lazy when you get a "clone" sketch.

Then again, what do you want for free?
: Re: Dreddcon VI Sketches Thread......
: Buddy 16 October, 2005, 06:49:34 PM
Doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm just glad to get a sketch from these guys.

To avoid a standard sketch just ask for something different, even a 'Luther Arkwright face on please Mr Talbot' should do it.
: Re: Dreddcon VI Sketches Thread......
: Artificial Idiot 16 October, 2005, 06:53:10 PM
Well, I didn't even realise he'd done that one. I didn't ask him for it, he just drew it quickly in the book I brought off him. So I'm not complaining.

Doesn't annoy me.

: Re: Dreddcon VI Sketches Thread......
: Mangamax 16 October, 2005, 08:29:25 PM
"But the main thing is this one's my Torquemada sketch, and I watched him do it."
Exactly - it's free, you have a natter and watch the artist at work.
Having said that, i wouldn't want my book to fill up with the same characters all the time, so have asked for characters they're not known for:
: Re: Dreddcon VI Sketches Thread......
: Noisybast 16 October, 2005, 08:48:16 PM
It's not a massive problem for me, or anything.
It's just my own petty gripe - some people are never satisfied!

It's not like they're driving a truckload of Stabilo markers into a bus queue of blind crack orphans or anything...

I had a theme this year, asking droids for, more-or-less, a doodle, something that they would draw for themselves if mucking about.

It just the chinage where shown, I could easily mistake that for a dredd

You should be using caps, it should read:

"And of course, it's from THE MIGHTY JOCK!".

Not to be confused with his cousin...the Mighty Quinn, or Tharg of course.

Or his hammer-wielding Scandinavian cousin...

There's 3 remaining sketches in the book.  All from Boarders.  Drawn Saturday night.

Shall I post them over the next three days, or do Al, Pete and Nat want to offer money for them to stay buried?

Everyone knows I can't draw, and I had a day-long merciless hangover that lasted right into the club afterwards, so I doubt anyone will be surprised that I drew the throbbing pain in my head in sketch form.

Why should Nat be worried?

Hell, why should mr Ewing be worried with genius such as this under his wing?

No, really, I'm mystified, dumbfounded and probably heavily misspelt

Nowt wrong with nekkid Cthulhu. I just need to draw better tentacle tits next time.

hey, everyone knows I can't draw either. And I'm not bothered about the strangely lame products of my drunken mind being paraded on the internet, because I've been doing that myself for a while ;)

Well having now given warning to those concerned that it'll happen (which was all I was really worried about), I'll start with Nat's sketch lunchtime...

Pete is of course, being too modest. He's done some lovely work bringing a strip to life fo the second edition of Lost Property, and he's done more big Dog too.

To start with then, Nat's Cthulu Nude...

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a picture of Cthulhu with clothes...

"he's done more big Dog too."

That's a  euphemism though, isn't it?

I think it is fair to say that there was beer involved.

However it was also by Pete, so how much of a part the beer played is open to conjecture... ;-)

Anyone else going to keep us going until Brighton?

Yeah, two weeks- ten sketches.

I found one of Dan's Dreddcon sketches that wasn't scanned before. I'll get that on the board after the weekend (unless I get the chance before then)

I have Etrigan the Demon John McCrea did for me.  And I'll get around to scanning it eventually...

Last one, reprise!

Dan has recently found this 'cheeky' little number by Patrick Goddard.

It shows an outtake from a supersurf 10 warm-up where Chooper was filmed 'doing a Radcliffe'.

yipes ! despite many promises, ive still got lots of unseen sketches, what are the chances of me getting them scanned & uploaded in next 5 days or so ?

maybe later ?

finally !

lots more... if time..

This was request of Mini-Bou & juve-2 at moniaive, Frazer probably thought 'ahhh little girls like kittens',

but what the deviants were actually meaning is:
"batmans so gay he should have a pet kitten"

: Artificial Idiot 14 November, 2005, 01:23:07 AM
That is classic Bou! :D

And yeah, I remember Mr. Goddard drawing that for Bolt in miniture, he was actually getting a sketch from Dylan Teague then as well... At the same time.

A short, ginger, squeeky machine.

Obviously.
