: Dudley 27 October, 2005, 08:46:20 PM
Right then, Cal-Habbers!

How're you lot planning to welcome me back to my ancestral homeland?

Polina and I move in (assuming we find a place to rent) on the 14th Nov, and our calendar is blank apart from Polina's birthday weekend... the 26th & 27th of Nov.

Any other dates possible in Glasgow this side of Christmas?  This'll be easier to organise than the London SmokeCon, I just know it!

I'll be happy to pop out for a beer at some point in the near future.

I can't do the 10th though (farewell party for the family home) but will be happy to meet up with you for a swift pint just about any other time.  See - I have so little to do, I'm in here on a Saturday night...
: Re: CalHabCon!!!
: Trout 31 October, 2005, 07:28:32 PM
Hi all. Yeah, that Quitely event was November 27, a Sunday, which I'm unlikely to manage.

However, I am now guaranteed every Saturday night off, so pick a date (from the third Saturday in November onwards) and I'll try to get along.

I'll be checking in with the board from time to time, although my new job will probably mean I won't be around much. I start it in a week.

Cheers

Depends where you want to meet.

There's a dearth of decent pubs (ie not filled with desperate 40 year olds) in the city centre.

What about the Auctioneers? (The thinking man's Horeshoe?)
: Re: CalHabCon!!!
: Carlsborg Expert 02 November, 2005, 03:48:36 PM

: Re: CalHabCon!!!

the shopping malls at christmas time.

the drive by shootings,

looking at anyone the wrong way in a taxi queue.

i do however recommend the place that does all night breakfasts... after a night clubbing a whopping great cooked veggie brekkie at 4am is the bisiness!  & theres somewhere you can get fryed egg croissants.

yes glasgow is the city of fusion cuisine... & big chibs.

Avoid all conversations about football, religion and schooling.  Seriously!

Apart from that its a truly swell place, thats why I live in the South of England :)

: Re: CalHabCon!!!
: Slippery PD 11 November, 2005, 05:41:31 AM
As I said I love Glasgow or maybe I didnt make it clear.  But I do.  But I might not support either of the Old Infirm.....

However, my wife found it incredibly difficult and didnt understand the football, religion, schooling questions either.  Shes a brummie.

The comment stands Dudley wants to know what to avoid in Glasgow, my advice is given in good faith.

PS - and Im a little bit Soft :)

Morning All, I'm now sober & know what month it is, but not the year.

I agree with the above and have always despised the bigotry in Glasgow but have to say when you go to the wee towns its ten times worse. Probably cos they've nowt else to do except argue & chib each other. My wifes from Whitburn & that place is like a cross between Royston Vasey & Deliverance!

Oh and schools was always my mates mums favourite question to find out if you were from the right stock to associate with her son.

St Whatever = Calflick
Anything else = Proddy

And may I recommend a visit to the Barras. Its better & cheaper than a visit to the zoo.

According to a particularly vivid description of Glasgow I had the genuine pleasure of hearing on Sunday night, you must avoid the 'rivers of piss.'
: Re: CalHabCon!!!

Anyone goin to the comic mart on sunday? Im gonna try and bag a superman sketch off mr Quitley.

Yeah, progs under arms sounds good to me.  I've had confirmation that the Trout, and possibly the Troutette, will be there.  (Dudlette may also be putting in an appearance).

The Auctioneers is easy to walk past if you don't know where it is. I have prepared a map (using IT drawing skills on a par with Carlos) and sent it to Wake. He has kindly said he'll post it here.

: Re: CalHabCon!!!
: Dudley 09 December, 2005, 06:44:03 PM
Bou - such a shame, I had hoped you'd get a last-minute reprieve.

DC - isn't there some sort of mechanical device transporting people between the two cities?  A "train", or some such?
: Re: CalHabCon!!!
: feridian 09 December, 2005, 11:51:38 PM
I will be there early as I'll have to leave before 10 to get the train back home, so I hope not everyone else is fashionably late, otherwise I'll be reading a prog on my ownsome.
: Re: CalHabCon!!!
: The Enigmatic Dr X 11 December, 2005, 06:09:57 AM
A deeply disturbing evening.

The Trout... isn't a fish.

Dudley... isn't his real name. And his girlfriend is a laugh.

The Satanist... drinks lager, not the blood of virgins.

On the other hand -

The Satanist has some very scary tatoos and is in the market for a sacrifical alter just off his bedroom (this guy was gutted at losing out on a house with a six foot by six foot "chamber" accessed through a wardrobe).

Dudley looks like his icon (especially as the night goes on).

And the Trout IS evil. Poor old Mrs Trout, despite being laden with a Troutling, was there to drive him home.

Worst of all, though, is the fear of Feridian. No one so nice should read comics. There must be a dark secret there.

: Re: CalHabCon!!!
: Trout 12 December, 2005, 05:47:22 AM
Hello, message board people!

Hungover fish here with thanks to the McBoarders for a fine night out.

What terribly nice people they all were.

Amusingly, Dudley has no sense of self-preservation. First, he publically expressed a dislike of Irn Bru - in Glasgow - and then he asked what was the big deal with "this Celtic/Rangers thing".

Hopefully, a steep learning curve will keep the poor sucker alive!

It was great to meet Dudlette, Dr X and the Satanist for the first time, and just as great to get to talk to Feridian a bit more.

In my defence, my wife very much enjoyed chatting with everyone there, including Dudlette, so her evening wasn't absolute torture. Also, she owes me a few lifts!

We should definitely have another McShed in future.

Cheers

- Trout

Sad I missed it but had a prior family arrangement (which was also very nice).

Count me in for the next one.
: Re: CalHabCon!!!
: Dudley 13 December, 2005, 02:48:16 AM
A pint was raised in your honour, along with a shout of "fat English poof", which apparently is customary on such occasions.

Which reminds me, the Trout tells me that Glaswegians like Englishmen doing Rab C Nesbitt impressions at them.  Off to try that one out now...
: Re: CalHabCon!!!
: feridian 13 December, 2005, 03:38:25 PM
Yep, we should definitely have another CalHab shed soon, when I don't have to leave so early. It was great to meet everyone: Dudley is just the nicest guy, Trout, I owe you a pint, and Dr X, the secret *is* the comics!
