I bring you... the geekiest shelves in the Hideous Boxroom of Doom!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

My lovely mum brought me the full Pitt set of figures, including the rather splendid Dredd, over from Canada the other day, and I wanted to share them with the board.
The Dredd's very cool, despite the bumbag, and some of the others are great too. Madman's gun is fabulous and that's some set of claws on Pitt! (Whoever he is...)

I realise how astonishingly geeky it is to have action figures, then post a picture of them on the  internet, but I thought it would be fun.

As you can see, my meagre collection isn't going to win any awards - especially given the boxes are long gone! - but I bet a few boarders can beat me.

Anyone want to join in? Let the world see your darkest, dustiest shelves, cabinets and cupboards!

I had the Eagle from the top of the pinball machine arrive today from Chile and a Dredd prototype Legends model arrive from Hong Kong.

Careful! There's a man in a blue t-shirt inside your cabinet! You can just see him there behind the figurines in the 2nd picture.

Perhaps he's one of those illegal immigrants we've heard off?

How do you guys get away with this????

What do your partners think about it?

I'm not allowed one bit of personal tat outside of my bedroom (yeah, MY bedroom, she has her own). As a result just about everything I own is in my room, all boxed up.

Nice Dark Knight there Trout, love that.

May I suggest putting a lock on the door for when Rose gets her on her feet. If she got in there it would be like all her Christmas's came at once.
: Re: Where dust goes to gather........
: Trout 18 September, 2007, 06:58:54 PM
Damn. I had a post vanish there.

It basically said the statues - Flash, Batman, Joker and Lantern - are gifts from my wife.

I get away with having a lot of stuff (mostly comics) because it's almost all in the boxroom, and my wife doesn't have to look at it!

I have one item on display in the dining room on top of one of the book cases and it's this (I chose the biggest model). It's the 2ft Movie Dredd.

How do you guys get away with this????

Heh. It *is* great to have a better half that not only puts up with but actively promotes my collecting of comic stuff. I've got my graphic novels/tpbs all handily on a book case in the sitting room (yes...the *sitting room*) and have my Dredd vs Death staute, Dredd badge, Rogue bobblehead on the shelf of my computer desk in the hall with my Judge Death original art and poster from the first Shedcon on the wall above it.

I've been told that when I get the Dredd helmet later in the year, that will have pride of place in the sitting room as well. I'm a happy camper. :)

This isn't the new one that's just released, btw, but the German-made one to promote the DvD game that I picked up at Dreddcon 3 years ago.

Your best bet is to open an account with someone like photobucket (IT'S FREE) which is what I did and upload your photo's onto this.
From here you can post your pictures to the far corners of the globe or if you want just here.
I found it rather simple and I haven't got a clue what I'm doing.

My entire collection of comics and GNs is in one big pile at the end of my room (I dwell in the attic) where there's enough dust to fill twelve universes. It's like some black hole which must constantly be fed with money.

I've got two large rooms full of comics, graphic novels and assorted memorabilia. But that's allowed because Leonia has two rooms full of books. Plus we have the sitting-room full of DVDs and videos.

Nice collection, vzzbux -just one question:  what does the (awesome) helmetless Stormie have on his back?  It's not an accessory I recognise.

Oh yeah, another question:  I see you have the Endor Walker - is it worth getting for the Scout Trooper with openable faceplate?   It's pretty heavy money.

: Re: Where dust goes to gather........
: Wils 20 September, 2007, 03:37:44 PM
Heh. I've got all bar the Mean and Rico mugs and they all get used on a day-to-day basis. The print on the edge of Don Uggie one is starting to get a bit pale now, though. Although it's the right thing for some people, I couldn't buy 2000ad stuff and keep them in their boxes and not use them. I'm not knocking those who do, and have them proudly on display, but it's personally not for me. I know some people squirrel stuff away as well in an attempt to artificially raise their worth and rub their hands together at how fucking clever they are(#) but I think that's just wrong, tbh. In Wils' land of 2000 ad/other comics merchandise; mugs are to drink out of, t-shirts are to be worn, statues and the like are to have pride of place (and are another thing that needs dusting) and comics, no matter how old or "rare", are to be read and enjoyed by as many people as possible.

But that's probably just me. ;)

I know, I know, it's one evil pile of mostly-white plastic alright.  But you wouldn't believe how much edible stuff you can find out the back of Maccers, and holidays are greatly overrated.

I felt the most appalling pangs of guilt last week when I bought 4(!) of the Comic Packs, and then picked up a ride-on toy for my son from a skip outside our office... (true story).  I'm a shit, and it's all your fault, Lucas.

Just to let you know, the best places to get the display cabinets like the glass one I have is "Ye Olde Junk Shops".
I was looking for one of these (Granny) cabinets for ages and I saw this displaying stuff in one of these places and made an offer which was accepted.
There is one problem it wouldn't fit in the car so I borrowed a transit van off a mate.
One last thing, it was a bugger to get down the cellar. lol.
I'm always on the lookout for other means of display but stuff on ebay is a bit pricey and nothing ever seems close enough to warrant me collecting it. Ho-hum!

Well I just had this nice frame made so that I can display the first set of phonecards up the stairs.
I did have some trading cards done at the same time. It was both Dark Judges set's with the metal print in the middle all signed by Simon Bisley but the messed it up, Big Time, so that is being redone.

If anyone has a Home Bargains local to them, they're currently selling the first wave of Marvel Figure Factory for 99p each. For the mystery figures, look on the back of the card, in the bottom left hand corner, where a letter will be stamped. With the help of this list, it'll tell you what figure is actually inside.

A - Unmasked Spider-Man
B - Doc Ock wearing a lab coat
C - Grey Hulk
D - Unmasked Wolverine
E - Unmasked Venom
F - Captain America
G - Red Daredevil
H - Yellow Daredevil
I - Human Torch
K - Unmasked Human Torch
L - Storm wearing a white costume
M - Stormwearing a black costume, sporting a mohican

No Problem ARRISARRIS.
I saw an advert in a model mag about the time the film came out for this.
The person in question was the only allowed modeller to reproduce the Landrover Cab with permission off Landrover & Cinergi. He doesn't have much stock left the last time I rang him to enquire if he was still doing them, for another boarder. He said he would have to make one from scratch but he still had enough bits to do it.
They cost £80 and are extremely intricate and very heavy. They also come in 3 colours yellow, red & silver.
The gentleman in question is getting on in years so the chances of him making stuff in the future are receeding.
Anyway I hope that little bit of info helps.

John and ARRISARRIS, update for you on the metal taxi cabs, I had the last made up yellow one that he had a couple of months ago and am currently waiting for a red and silver one to be made up so not sure what he's got left in stock. He's a great guy though as I went to see him and pick it up direct etc.

Also does anyone have any more info on the latest figure (with the 10% discount!) that we where meant to be able to buy recently etc etc?????

I have most of the Reaction Figures, except For Durnam Red and Psi Anderson.

I managed to too get both variants of Slaine. Thanks to Ebay.

I also have a small collection of the Blizzard Action figures based on Diablo and Warcaft.

Three Spawn Collectables.

I have a small collection of the first and second wave of He-Man Masters of the Universe. Though my Battle Cat has mysteriuosly dissappeared.

Sort came to my mind when I noticed Rac had one on display also.

I have a even smaller collection of orignal star-ars action figures. Alot of it's broken or missing parts. Noneo fthe new stuff, though.

Though I still won't part with them.

There is also Lord of the Rings figures.
Most of the Nine walkers and some of the Orcs, a Troll, two Ring wraiths all based on the movie and there are few figures that that commisoned before the movies. Different variants.

I also have alot of those rubber dinosaurs that used to be quite popular.

My new nerd room/workshop, the back bedroom that was. Long delay in getting it up to scratch or even usable because it needed a new floor, a shower cubicle taken out, and electric sockets reinstated. £5.99 is pretty darn good.  I was in FP London on Friday, and sweet cheeses, the prices!  They were almost exactly the same as the FP Dublin Euro amounts, but in sterling - and that'd make them about 40% higher than FP Belfast.  I'll never complain about the local lads again.  And no, I didn't but a single thing from them, bloody chancers.

Incidentally, there was no Wave 5 and the Starkiller concept was £17.99.  Take me back to the days of Denmark Street, please.

The Boba Fett guy's girlfriend must be weeping into her cocoa. In their house it must be like sitting down to watch TV beside the front counter of Forbidden Planet. All that's missing is the till.

"Let's move in together. It'll be just like living in a shop. I've even got all the shop fittings. We can pick out a spinner-rack together for the spare bedroom."

We've been decorating all this week. I'm just about to get started on putting up the shelves. After Christmas I'll show you mine.

Ush, it looks to me like that's only a small corner of Boba's lounge, the rest is probably all Chintz and Pre-Raphaelite prints and co-ordinated bloody cushions. No, there's no room in here for that comfy chair you nicked out of the College common room, no matter how much sentimental value it hasstick it in the box room you never go in, along with everything else you own...

I used to have colour code system relating to me the status of a 2000AD I had seen listed on thsi wber sight.

Basically that is something while I was down south in Sydney. I had kept track of all these
by writing the Prog numbers.

Firstly, I had listed of all the progs/graphic novels I owned that I had naturally left home where I am now. To these I dedicated the colour BLACK. ( As I have been using one of those speical four in one colour pens.)

The ones that I had purchased from a store in Sydney and put in storage were colour coded  BLUE.

The ones that I had seen in the store that I was intending to buy were RED.

The ones that I was then buying doubles of were GREEN. ( There weren't many of those.)

Oh, And I had found one or two of Progs had aquired nicotine stains.

I just can't stand sercuity guards who get bored and way too nosey when have access to your  stuff.

Just look at the two original Ewoks cartoon characters (not unvaluable items - well over â?¬100 each) - toys from a kids' cartoon, and they've been sitting in their packages since 1985, and no-one has ever played with them.  That always strikes me as very sad, in Toy Story II kind of way.  Let the envious carping continue!

"Of course this person could recoup alot of their expenses witha huge sale."

Maybe one day he'll have to. Not everyone with a huge collection like that can afford it. There was a programme on BBC3 (was it Spendaholics?) where there was a chap who'd spent £25,000 on Japanese Gundam-type mecha and robots. He also had credit card debt to the tune of about... er... £25,000 (give or take a few thousand). What the psychologist got out of him was an unfulfilled longing to visit Japan. He'd never been there because he "couldn't afford it", so he'd collected Japanese toys by mail instead. Then they told him how many trips to Japan he could've had for what he'd spent on toy robots. Oh well.

Today I struck gold in my parent's attic and found four boxes of LEGO from when I was a nipper.

Bonus I thought.

As cool as that was it was ruined by the finding in one of the boxes the head of the original Han Solo figure, which brought flooding back memories of coming home one day to find that my brother Matt and his friend Matt had pulled the heads off all of my Star Wars figures and swapped them round.

That's his next birthday present sorted then, in a nice presentation box. Bastards.

Oh how I cried.

I was quite upset the day it happened too.

: Re: Where dust goes to gather........
: TordelBack 14 February, 2008, 08:18:33 AM
What is it about that Han Solo figure?  My own brother stopped short of decapitation, but he chewed that Correllian noggin into an (even more) unrecognisable pulp.

To this day I've a slightly ambivalent feelings about Han, because he never got to participate in many of the heroic struggles and daring rescues that would weaken the Empire at the end of the '70s. Even the awesome Hoth Han (whose non-arctic application was admittedly limited) and then (joy of joys) Bespin Han got pretty minimal outings, because by then the poor guy was in carbonite.  In  fact, most of his adventures involved brief periods of unfreezing, before being recaptures by Postal Offer Boba and re-frozen in many innovative Lego built carbon-freezing facilities (with working trapdoor!).

I thought I'd throw this one in too, it's a bit shitty but I think it's a one of a kind Judge Death model that was hand made. And if I'm not mistaken it was made by notorious child murderer Ronald Castree (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7084688.stm), at least that's who I bought it off. he used to own Arcadia Comics in Ashton-under-Lyne. Dare I start re-posting on this thread. Since my last post our (my son now has the Star Wars bug) collection has grown substantially.

Looking at Critter's assortment olf plastic paraphenalia. Reminds me of my own collection. If only by replacing your Batman figure as well as few other with Star Wars action figures, Some of the Warcraft figures and Lord of the Rings. Then our collections would look just about identicle. As I have just about all of the 2000AD figures. Reaction and the latest Judge Dredd and Judge Death. Barring all the variants and thefemale female character Reaction figures, except for the Warped Slaine variant. I currently have three Slaine two of them are regular. All my figures are unpackaged. That way, they are less tempting to steal.

I must photgraph my own one day.

I'm also quite impressed and jealous of Mr Jolly's 2000AD home museum of collectables.

Concering you choice of sig picture. You wouldn't be Australian, Tasmanian, Chopper Reid or Eric Bana iumpersonating him.

I wouldn't think so, but I've asked anyway.

I see you play Spore as well, That looksw like the case for the Creature Creator anyway.

Its a bit creepy seeing a Judge Death figure that is the actual product of a deranged, disturbed and psychopathic mind.

Bbbrrrrrrr...........

Creepy.

Your place looks just like a Loft conversion i did for someone recently or what little i could see of it anyway.

I misread the certificate for the JD replicas and read it as saying that they are solid gold and not plated.

Yeah, I did play Spore. Until my hard drive packed in just after Christmas, and I haven't bothered installing it again.

Oh yeah, they light up and have the sound effects and everything.

Here's a video someone did of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCAheKgJKSA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCAheKgJKSA)

They're about £100 each, and I ended up paying a fortune for the mounting brackets. They come with stands but they mount them horizontally and they fucking bend, so I tracked this lad down in the States who produced these mounting brackets himself. The fucking shipping alone was ridiculous.  ::)

They look fucking pimp though.

About the Scyth or Axe. I am sort of impresseed, but I was just wondering if made from plastic or is that bonafide real.

If thats interesting enough, how about the Axe of Slaine --BRAIN-BITER--.

Then which version?

Just now and on a few other occasions. I have been wondering if the axe Slaine shattered on the head of the old ice dragon towards the end of DRAGONHEIST is considered to be THE BRAINBITER or BRAINBITER THE FIRST and the other with the more familer bat-winged or full moon shaped blade, BRAIN-BITER THE SECOND.

Of course I underastand that every Slaine artist has their own approach to drawing the Sessair and his favorite weapon, it's stil considerd to be the same implement of war and chopping down trees.

The idea of forging a real axe or just a fake plastic one. Thats the thingabout a real forging of the axe. That makes it a real weapon and I guess thats why Slaine prefers the old fashioned weaponry.

It always works, it's always loaded and switched on.

A real one might be safer if it was mounted to something too heavy to allow it to be a viable weapon

I finally got a rollerblind put in my back bedroom where I keep the precious things, a good year and a half since my good lady and I spent Christmas 2007 decorating it, carpeting up and putting up shelves in it (which she spent hours sanding and varnishing all on her lonesome while I was writing up a college assignment).

It's quite a relief to go in there now and not mildly freak at the direct sunlight pouring in through the unshaded window. Pictures to follow by... ooh... end of summer. Possibly. Maybe Christmas?

At lunchtime I bought a Star Wars 3 3/4" figure of Luke in his medical gown from the end of Empire Strikes Back.

And then because he came with 1/6 of a 'build-a-droid' figure (the head, as it happens), I bought five more figures so I could get a seventh one 'free'.

I'm so ashamed, plus I'm going to be living on rehydrated noodles for the next fortnight.  It's like George has installed an override chip in the (already under-developed) common-sense area of my brain.  I wonder if Scientologists feel this way when they realise they've given all their money to a bunch of rich tossers, or cultists when they realise they actually have succeeded in summonng Shub Niggurath and his thousand young are now going to infest them shortly before devouring the world.

But Luke even has a little flap on his wrist so you can see the wires of his shiny new bionic hand, so basically that's a result!

It is a thing of great beauty to be sure, but where the feck would you put it?  I still have to move my (unbelievably great) Millennium Falcon off my desk every time I need to work. (Okay, I mean 'fly' it off my desk, round the room a bit, play a few of the awesome sounds, extend the landing legs, open the gangway, disembark the crew, bluff their way through Imperial customs...etc. etc.).  If I had an AT-AT, Han would put her down on top of it...

If you dont want those star wars figures I will gladly take them off your hands. ;)

I wouldn't even try. The price of my Star Wars collection just scares me stupid. Its all on the house insurance, photoed and backed up for evidence.

Cool! Nice one, James.

I've undertaken a major reorganisation of the Hideous Boxroom of Doom in recent weeks, due to Baby Max going into his own room and the need to get the last of my stuff out of there.

I'm quite pleased with the results, but even more so with the sorting-stuff-out process, which of course involved lots of stopping to read stuff.

Also, I found myself selling loads of old tat that turned up, including four old mobile phones. I can recommend musicmagpie.co.uk, who are sending me more than £40 for dusty old CDs and DVDs that hadn't been touched in a long time. (You can make a lot more on eBay, but musicmagpie is just so incredibly easy to sort out.)

James, my Mum says I can come over to play if your Mum says it's okay.

Holy hell man, that's impressive!  I've been relentlessly hoovering up 'unwanted' Lego of grown (and unimaginative) children from all the various branches of my family since I was 5, recently expanding into the untouched worlds of in-laws (under the banner of 'if it's just cluttering up the attic our little boy would get great value out of it'), and I haven't amassed the teensiest fraction of that Aladdin's Cave.  As an aside, I have often wondered is there any kids' toy that costs quite as much by weight*.

*other than Gundams, obviously.

It's called Modulex. Made by Lego and came out in the 70s. The intention being it could be used to make architectural models. The company is still going but they make the big signs that you see in airports and train stations now, no idea.

I actually got rid of a lot of lego about 4 years ago (http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=285305) that was about 150 kilos worth. Not really built anything since then, and the original photos I linked were taken since then. So I still have way too much. I'm packing up the house at the moment due to having to move out and got scared with quite how much I have. I'd forgotten :)

atachily jokeing aside I would not mind doing that seeing as I have a charter desine some where that I would like to make a figer of.

Now look what came in the post today it’s a shame I found out this toy collectible is defective after I ordered it but at least I know to be careful stupid cheap Hasbro refusing to make a new mould and using the old deteraited mould. Now my Transformer collection now stands at 209 and people say I have a problem.

I just couldn't resist this at £25 in Toys R Us.

I used to have the older version of that! You know the one with the button on the back which powers the legs?  I didn't have to buy it either. A kid I used to know decided he didn't want them any more and brought them round. (There was a few other Star Wars things too including an X-Wing.) I was so chuffed at the time.

Later on I think they ended up in a jumble sale. A daft thing is, as an adult I wish I'd kept them. (Isn't that strange? I went through a phase of thinking I was too old for these things, yet now I know I'm too old part of me wouldn't mind having them.)

I used to love transformers too and they ended up in a jumble sale too.  I actually did succumb to temptation a year or two back and bought a couple of transformers. I felt guilty afterwards and sold them on ebay. At a loss.... (one was actually quite rare, an import....)

As for merchandise, I've limited myself to Red Dwarf stuff so far. I've got all the Red Dwarf head knockers (apart from the two, Rimmer in gingham dress and Psiren which weren't put on the market) and a couple of corgi models. (Starbug and a Skutter.) If I find my digital camera I might take a picture.

If any cheaper 2000 AD figures come out I might get them. 3A is out of my range, and I think I'd prefer something smaller anyway. (I like the idea of the big Mongrol though.) Smeg, old ladies have models of ugly people fishing. I'm a geek. I prefer action figures. As models. I don't play with them. (Not where anyone can see anyway.)

From my memory of transformers, surely the red car should be Hot Rod? Didn't the Rodimus Prime version* have a camper van thing which turned into a gun platform?  (I remember rather wanting one of those at the time... although in hindsight, what a daft name.)

*I know it's the same person after having accepted the matrix of leadership. According to the first animated movie anyway. Which I never actually watched, but I had the book and tape.
: Re: Where dust goes to gather...
: HdE 11 February, 2011, 03:15:38 AM
I can answer that one, Mardroid.

It's to do with licensing issues concerning the name 'Hot Rod'. Hasbro can't trademark it (or whatever) so they go with 'Rodimus' instead. 'Hot Rod' is considered too generic a term, apparently.

This is why a lot of recent toys have been marketed as, for example 'Autobot Jazz' or 'Decepticon Brawl'. Adding the prefix apparently differentiates between a trademark and a generic term.

Silly world we live in.  ::)

Look up Season 3 Episode 11 of 'Pawn Stars' if you like your Transformers mental cases. The guy has everything including multiples and all the boxes. The Pawn man isn't impressed as he'd have to break it up and sell them individually over the internet. The Toy store owner he takes along to appraise is however frothing at the mouth at the sight of so much plastic.

Thank you for introducing that hopeless longing into my life, Johnny.

There's some wonderful stuff there - the book cover sets in particular tickle my fancy.  Having spent many long boring days in National School gazing at some of those covers on the shelves at the side of the classroom it's vaguely surreal to see them as figurines/statuettes/whaddayacallems.

And I thought my Star Wars addiction was bad. I have only spent £50 on Star Wars this month.

I've been clean for 3 months now.   My last purchase was the Vintage Collection R2 with the drinks tray, a very fine last hit.  Luckily I can get methadone-equivalent relief from my son's Clone Wars games, and occasional treats acquired for free (thanks Mogzilla! :D), but as for purchasing... that wookiee's off my back, man.

Here, Cyberleader2000, I played with a Transformer for the first time since my brother's Starscream some time in the '80s (which i used as a rather nice jet fighter, not a space robot), and I was quite impressed.

One of my son's friends had given him a 'Tuner Skids' for his birthday (presumably in the remaindered aisle), and we spent some time transforming him back and forth between what looked like a green Mondeo to a squat looking robo-bloke with a car boot stuck to his neck.  But I must say, the actual transforming process was pretty cool - way more complicated and clever than I had imagined.  Interesting hobby you have there.

F'ing pusher - Lucas got you working the 'net, huh?  Can't fool me, I know the first hit's always Free(co).

Most interesting change of all has been the shift from user to dealer, i.e. (the necessity of) selling my plastic mountain - came back from a lovely beach swim today to find eBay had shifted €24.00 of gear in my absence.  Paid for the petrol and the ice creams, which was nice.  I'm only selling doubles at the moment, but I think I'm almost ready for the big leagues.

yes the movie line is much more complex but I think the best line is the clasicks / universes / Generachions line also skids is rubish want a good movie tf get voiger starscream that figer is arsom. but if you want complex try a masterpice range. took me about half a day to transform Masterpice megatron for the first time now it only takes me now 45 minits and thats with pratis.

And this came in the post today friend of mine found a great sale on ebay £24.99 and £2.45 shiping Hunt For The Decepticons Leader Class Starscream

There you go something else to spend your benefits on

"Mr Fenton’s girlfriend, who did not want to be named" there's a surprise!

£200k for a 1000 model collection - £200 each? sounds like an insurance job in the offing.

Still if I met a woman who knew what I liked and the insisted I got rid of it, I know what would be out the door.

Aye, but according to the article he was spending $4K a year on just one website alone - so you can assume that over the 20 years of collecting he/his parents probably spent close to the (adjusted) estimated value (not that he's even made the sale for that daft amount yet).  So the money has already been spent, and obviously there was a lot of it coming from soemwhere, it just happens to be (theoretically) recoverable.  Lets see someone try to sell 20 years worth of pints and fags, or shoes and make-up (admittedly that's about €200 a week's worth, but plenty of people spend that).  Frankly I think the woman is a bitch - who pays off their mortgage at 32? Cut back on that kind of spending and the mortgage will look after itself.

At 32, the years haven't been kind to him, that'll teach him to amass an empire of plastic tat. Our own Judge Burdis excluded of course.

Dark of the Moon is expected to  significantly add to the 700miliion dollar box-office  takings. Mr Fenton, who was at a preview screening of the movie, is already booked in for another viewing of the film this weekend.

He said: ‘The team have finally listened to the fans and delivered what they want, an adult version of the original cartoon, with action, adventure and a story line.
‘I can only hope that a fourth instalment will not be too far away.’

I hate to be be judgmental but that says a lot.

There's always hope cybie2000.

Nah - I just put them in there because vzzbux did!!   :D

There are also a couple of customs in there - the Bly on the third row is actually a converted Rex (before I managed to get my hands on the real thing) and as any good collecting geek should know, the 'Bomb Disposal Clone' (orange figure top left) hasn't been made (yet) - that's a custom 'Slick'.

.....I am on the slow road to recovery from clone illness......but unfortunately it has now been replaced by the current "Vintage" line and a catch up on VOTC / Saga.

It won't be long until I start plugging the gaps in my original vintage set.....dear lord.

In my Photobucket library I found this polaroid from 1999/ 2000-ish of some unkempt pieces (stored rather than displayed) in my mum's house (I'd obviously uploaded it to post here at some point). Sadly most of these things live in plastic storage boxes now.

Yeah it's a bit nice the Stormtooper helmet car, that was a gift from mates who'd gone to Euro Disney a few years ago (diecast Snowspeeder from childhood).

Cheers guys, the Cap B/Fury piece was made for me by a fella I met in a facebook collectors group. I sent him pics of Crooked World and specifically the cover of The Daredevils #11 and asked him to see what he could do.

He also made me the custom Fury on the Bowen Cap B statue. Another guy made Mad Jim Jaspers, also on there.

You have a Fury statue!?!...in fact two!

Always wanted Bowen to make one to compliment the Capt. Britain full figure like you display.

Do you have the busts they did of original 70's and redesigned 80's Capt. they're rather spanky to.

My 38 year quest for a complete standard loose set* of vintage Star Wars figures draws perilously close to an end. Just a last 17 Ewok left to acquire (warok).

Man, those "last 17" figures have really shot up in price in the last couple of years.....I passed on a few of them a few years back as they were way too expensive. Wish I hadn't now as they were relatively cheap compared to what they cost now! Have recently got rid of all my modern 3.75 inch figures to fund these and my growing 1/6 (bad) habit.

Very nice indeed

Yep, some of the figures are super silly in terms of prices. As you say, those last 17 especially.

Once you have the set, will you turning your attention to the vinyl cape Jawa, and Blue Snaggletooth?
(And don't forget the Dianoga...)

: Re: Where dust goes to gather...
: SIP 16 December, 2016, 07:58:08 PM
Yeah, the dianoga, a better dewback and an imperial probe droid. Can't bring myself to stump up £200 on a blue snaggletooth when I can pick up a hot toy for the same money. Never say never though.

......oh yeah, and my other bad Star Wars habit.......6 inch black series figure.  Trying to break this particular habit. Would like to sell them all but can't actually bring myself to do it!

With the mandalorian shelf, I recognise Boba Fett in the middle and Jango Fett on the left. I thought the one on the right might be a clone trooper, but on closer inspection maybe not.

That's the original boba fett suit design (usually referred to as "prototype fett") that was made in around 1978 (i think). He was originally conceived as a sort of "super stormtrooper", hence the white suit. Later on he was re-fashioned as a bounty hunter and the familiar colours were added. There is footage and photos from the live test of this white suit though if you google it.

The white version has been re-repurposed in Rebels as the uniform of the Imperial Supercomando, as per the original concept.

Nice collection. Mid life crisis has hit here so I've started to collect the original figure again in a vain attempt to recapture my 10 year old self. Have Chewbacca and Obi Wan so far...It's going well.
If anyone wants to sell any doubles of the original figures (77-85) then please let me know. Thanks!

: SIP 18 December, 2016, 04:18:07 PM
It's fair to say that I filled most of the gaps in this collection about 5 years ago......which was just prior to me turning 40, so midlife crisis probably is appropriate. I do have a terrible collecting illness though!  Probably about a third of these figures are my actual childhood ones.

: Re: Where dust goes to gather...
: lincnashOZ 30 August, 2017, 09:12:37 PM
I'll start with a non-2000AD kit-bash of mine.
Around 2001 my idea of custom, was to put some extra kit on a figure.  ::)
Check my custom 3A/2000AD fig's in the 3A thread to see I have progressed (only slightly  :P).

My kit-bash of members of the 101st P.I.R. on D-Day (WW2).
Google "Filthy 13 + D-Day"" for more info if you are interested.

21st Century Toys Jeep and 2 figures.
Also 2 Dragon Models Ltd figures (a lot superior to 21st).
I really appreciate the earlier release stuff.
To see how Hot Toys, Sideshow etc got their influences and how much progress has been made with man dollies.
Sorry "Collectible Action Figures"
I'll stay with one pic of each set to keep my posts short, but will post more if there's interest.
Just ask.

Sticking with the D-Day theme.
Of course, the British were not going get out done in the crazy-brave stakes.
My kit-bash of a 6th Airborne Division Trooper, D-Day 1944.
Apparently, they ditched the Jump Helmet quickly after landing.
With Nat-zee's trying to kill you everywhere, they chose to wear their bright Maroon Beret !.
Shortly after D-Day (due to many head-wounds) the order was "no beret's in combat".
Originally maroon beret's, the S.A.S. changed to the now famous Tan (their L.R.D.G. roots, in the desert).

Replica Ginger Flock, GI Joe (Cotswold Collectible's), with (2001) 21st Century Toys uniform and kit.
All molded pieces, but a really good representation of the Military kit of the time.

Cheers JimboC, glad you like him.  :)
I figured a crazy Para running around France, must be a Ginger  ;).

Every collection has to have the "bad guys", to battle your "heroes" right ?.
I'll stay with D-Day, but move over to the Dark Side, cue Vader's March music.
German NCO, Normandy 1944.
I had only seen B&W, historical pic's of WW2 German Camouflage.
When I saw this uniform set (semi-accurate) it blew me away.
The "blocky" pattern with artificial "rain" was so cool.

German Panzer Grenadier, Normandy 1944.
The Grenadier is wearing a "Zeltbahn" (camouflage Poncho) over his uniform.
You could combine 4 Zeltbahns together, to make a 4-man tent !.
Armed with a "Panzerfaust", English translation = Tank-Fist (for punching holes in Tanks obviously !).

Since I was a kid, I have found this stuff so fascinating.
The creative ways Humans find to destroy each other. :o

Through the power of thread necromancy I convey this message.

I've caught the Transformers figures bug. I picked up a few from In Demand Toys at MCM Bham a few weeks back for a bargain and found the engineering to be much improved from the chunky spring loaded blocks of the early 2000's. Cindersaur, Triggerhappy and Hun-Gurrr are great figures and it's convinced me to dip my toe a bit more into the recent lines.

This wont become a problem, i'm sure....

Heh. After buying transformers as a kid, (then reluctantly giving them away, cos I was ‘too old’) I bought a couple of the Masterpiece figures* recently. Paid way to much for a Hasbro Optimus MP-10. (MP-44, is the latest, but that one is ridiculously expensive and I wasn’t keen on the paint job.) Thankfully I paid much less for a second hand Tamara MP Sideswipe (sorry ‘Lambor’), although probably too much for second hand.

Pretty nice looking figures with decent engineering. Worth it? Not really, I can see some design issues. (Sideswipe seems to want to come apart in robot mode. Unless I transformed it wrong,) and Optimus has minor issues. For the money I think they should be much better...

... yet I’m glad to have them. Prime in particular is a monster size compared to the G1 toy I had as a child, although I ironically prefer the metallic paint job of the older figure. I love the fact he has a back now, though, rather than having a huge gaping hole into the cab, like the original. The articulation on these MPs is pretty decent compared to the originals too, although that’s not saying much.

I won’t be collecting them all. Probably just one or two (or three or four. Yes I know. I’m so sad.) more, if that. Eyeing am MP-36 Megatron next, (or a movie Bumblebee. He’s one movie range figure that looks really good, although I’m largely sticking G1 otherwise) but if I do, it would need to be a good deal, Great looking figure from the front, but the kibble on the back is atrocious!

Oh, and the sheer amount of Knock -offs on eBay is shocking! It’s hard to tell which is original sometimes. Tempting too, as they’re often nice quality at half the price, but I want to keep them original. I see boxless Takara Megs on eBay that are supposedly original, at a much reduced price, but how do I know these sellers aren’t fibbing?

* kind of fooled myself into thinking ‘the MP range are adult collector figures at that price, so okay to buy. Yes, I’m a fool, but they are quite nice. Thankfully, they don’t seem to lose value all that much as production is limited, so I might even make money back if I ever decided to sell. (Not that I’m considering that yet.) Assuming I don’t damage them.

Bringing it back to 2000AD, I see a face off between an axe wielding Optimus Prime and Mongrol in the  future. (In a posed figures display kind of way, I mean, not a playing “take that!” “Mongrol Smush!” Click! Click! Kind of way. Honest. Their size is comparable, although they’re not to scale. If they were, I think Mongrol would be far smaller.  We think of ABC Warriors as giant robots, but they seem quite small compared to Transformers. Even Mongrol. I think only Mek-Quake in kill-dozer mode would compare.

I doubt i’ll bother with the Masterpiece line, too big, too expensive, too much like a collectors piece than just some fun to liven up the work space in my flat. The Generations line are more in my ball park, cheaper but still impressive little toys for what they are and appealing to a certain bit of nostalgic jpy. God knows the world meeds that right now.

You'd have to compare the Transformers to the Terra-Meks, Charlie and George, wouldn't you?  (I was never into Transformers, so don't know how they fare in the big robots stakes - other than Optimus Prime who I know is the size of an artic).

The smallest fully grown Cybertronians, like Nickel (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Nickel) are about 3-4ft tall, so about the size of Ro-Jaws. The largest are the colossal city sized Titans (https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Titan_(group)), like Metroplex and Trypticon, which are far far larger than anything in the Millsverse. Optimus sit's somewhere between the 30-50ft tall mark, so towers over most ABC warriors. Even the smaller than average Autobots/Decepticons like Tailgate or Rumble would still be about the size of Hammerstein.

Fair enough. I was slightly shocked at the size of Optimus when he arrived. I did read the descriptions before buying, but it doesn’t quite do it justice. And the mp36 is smaller than the first MP version!

I found myself hankering for the G1 size, (or something in between) but with the quality of MP, if that makes sense. At least the size made me feel like I was getting more of my money’s worth. Heh.

Sideswipe is to scale with Optimus, and as a far smaller character is actually a pretty nice size. So I guess your average sized mp isn’t so big, but in scale certain characters just dwarf the others.

And I believe the MP Shockwaves are on the bigger side of things. Old Mongrol would be about two thirds his height at least I’d think, if not half. (Difficult to tell with Mongrol, as he is one of the larger Warriors, but he stoops a lot. Also his scale does seem to change a bit from comic, to comic.)

I looked at the Generations line. Yes they look very nice.

I've caught the Transformers figures bug.

Haven't got the bug, but do have two Transformers on my display shelf:

- Soundwave (w/ Lazerbeak & Ravage) 'G1 Re-issue'. Personal favorite from my childhood, the original was lost forever when some scrote broke into my Dad's car in the late 80's (thinking it was an actual tape player).
- Galvatron (w/ Nucleon) 'Titans Return'. Looks much closer to the animated version than the G1 version I had as a kid. Gotta love that huge arm cannon.

: IndigoPrime 25 April, 2019, 04:33:17 PM
I was very tempted to buy the Soundwave Masterpiece when it hit the UK, but (intentionally) delayed until it was sold out. My wallet was happy about that. But then I've tons of Zoids here that I've never put together or that have gathered dust, and so didn't really need more stompy robots. I do keep checking local second-hand listings, mind…
: Re: Where dust goes to gather...
: SIP 25 April, 2019, 09:26:29 PM
I've got a fairly large collection of G1 transformers and can absolutely recommend the masterpiece figures. The MP10 optimus is pretty much a perfect rendition of a G1 meets Transformers:the movie optimus prime. Must pick up the equivalent Megatron at some point.

The soundwave is a great figure, but yes....quite expensive now.

I do wonder this about some of the modern Lego - if it's too fragile to be easily moved then it isn't a toy any more - and Lego should be a toy first and foremost!
: Re: Where dust goes to gather...
: IndigoPrime 29 April, 2019, 03:56:56 PM
I dunno. Although it might sound a bit Lord Business, I'd say Lego has multiple purposes these days. Primarily, it's a toy line, but it's also a nostalgia-infused kit line – the modern-day equivalent of Airfix. Let's face it – there aren't too many kids who are going to play with the Architecture line, or the Vestas Wind Turbine set. Even that gigantic Hogwarts Castle set is very much a display piece, rather than something to sit there playing with.

Very true!  I wonder could there also be a reflection of childhood use patterns? My son used to build his Lego sets and play with them as if they were 'regular' toys, seldom if ever breaking them up (except temporarily in crashes etc). There's still a few of his SW vehicles dotted around the place. By contrast my daughter (9) barely finishes any new set before she's pulled it apart and merged it into her latest Lumberjanes-inspired project, an ever-evolving spread of carefully outfitted log cabins and tree-houses that never stay the same for longer than a day.

Mini-IP (4) is like that with her sets, which have been smashed to bits and recombined into all manner of oddball contraptions. Most of a London bus still exists, as does a dinosaur, and parts of a house. But mostly, it's BUILD ALL OF THE THINGS. Hence why she's not getting free rein with my modulars. Getting those back together again would be a bloody nightmare. (She does get all the vehicles now and again, though, from the Mystery Machine to Ecto-1.)

Hey, I did already mention Lord Business – and I do feel a bit shitty saying "no, you can't play with all of daddy's Lego". But then she's 4, she has a massive box of her own Lego. Also, I bought a ton of 1980s Lego on eBay for nostalgic purposes, but almost all of that's gone to the nipper (and been lost in her box o' Lego bits).

It's entirely true that there's Lego and there's lego. That big millennium falcon is most certainly not for kids, its non-functional as a toy, but, then there is the smaller version that is a great solid toy. They have certainly broadened the range to appeal to a wider audience.

One of my favourite vehicles from Star Wars is the Sandcrawler (not an obvious choice, I know) and I've looked at previous Lego Sandcrawlers.  This Christmas I bought myself the latest version - it's about half the size of previous ones they've done but think it's probably the best one released to date (though if only it had proper see-through windows).
