Title: Bargains/deals thread (?)
Post by: sheldipez on 07 March, 2013, 09:54:30 am
I could of sworn there was a bargains / deals thread but can't for the life of me find it (and the forum search is zero help)

Anyway the Before Watchmen Nite Owl/Dr Manhattan Deluxe Edition HC is currently £13.50 (+£1 UK P&P) at Forbidden Planet UK (http://www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_music_info&products_id=75209) until 20th of March. It's down as £22.50 at the moment on Amazon.

I know there's one for video games, could be that your thinking of?

Anyway good spot. The only one I'll be getting is the Darwyn Cooke stuff I think, mind that's at a decent price too at £15ish. Mind might wait for the cheaper trade rather than a hardback, we'll see.

Darwyn Cookes 'Parker' graphic novels are going cheap as chips on Comixology this weekend.
Highly recommended reading.

This is a great idea for a thread.

However, I would not pay one single penny for Before Watchmen. Encouraging news that it's going cheap.

The Wonderland Original Trilogy Omnibus is 99c on comixology (http://www.comixology.com/Wonderland-Original-Trilogy-Omnibus/digital-comic/DIG001698) at the mo.

It collects Return to Wonderland #0-6, Beyond Wonderland #0-6, Escape From Wonderland #0-6, All Ten Issues of Tales From Wonderland and the Return to Wonderland Annuals so quite a few comics for the cash.

I don't know if it's still available, but From Hell was going on the sequential app for £6.99 the other day.

Kobo mini is on sale for £30 at the mo in WHSmiths. If you are looking for a small nifty e-reader you could do a lot worse. I assume a backlit one is on the way.

Some great comics goin cheap on comixology tonight;

Brandon Graham's Prophet (the full run so far, first issue of the run is free. It's in my top 5 comics).
Brandon Graham's Multiple Warheads (won't be for everyone, but give it a shot as the first issue is free).
Matt Fraction's Hawkeye (I got the trade a few months back...a great read, even for non- fans).

Just gutted I have them all already.  :'(

I think it may be a good idea to split this into two threads, one for print and one for digital comics.

The Hypernaturals ComiXology sale is pretty sweet. Great book. Though I wish Boom would get the free comic book day prologue up on ComiXology. They seem to have forgot.

Beware, like I said it is only on the "limited" line, that doesn't include monthly comics, paperbacks or Artist edition. On the other hand, there are two Judge Dredd book in the limited line (but you probably know all that).

As well as the X-Men trades mentioned somewhere else I was in The Works today (Sheffield) today and they had Titan hardcover of The Rat Pack on sale for £3.99 - absolute bargain.

Might alas explain why their Battle series doesn't seem to be going much further (beyond the Garth Ennis one) if the early ones are getting dumped off. Shame BUT for those that don't have this book yet there is a possible silver lining!

Drat and dangnation!  No sign of the Rat Pack this week but, BONUS!, several copies of the Indiana Jones Omnibus Vol.1 from Dark Horse (not the Further Adventures... omnibuses which I already have the first two of) for £3.99 instead of £19.99.

I picked up a couple from The Works too. Took a bit of a chance but as they're such good value it seemed worthwhile.

I got X-Factor: Visionaries and New X-Men. I've yet to read the former (but I've read some of Peter David's stuff before and he was pretty good). And the latter wasn't bad at all.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Century books and Nimo book collections are going pretty cheap on Comixology at the moment. They're even cheaper on the Kindle app when I last checked, but my experience of that app with comics hasn't been good. The Fire version might work well though.

I got the first volume of DC's Suicide Squad on Kindle app (still just 50p) and quality was awful, read about half dozen pages before I gave in.

Yeah, the comic Kindle app quality was pretty bad on the Nexus 7 Android tablet too. At least the Judge Dredd Case Files I downloaded were. Great price, but I'd sooner pay more and get better quality through Comixology (although you can't get the Case Files that route.  I'm talking about comics where you have the option).

Yesterday I got Savage She-Hulk from the Works Sale. Taking a chance here as I'm unacquainted with the character, although remember finding She-Hulk amusing in the Incredible Hulk cartoons a few years back... Not sure what the whole 'savage' thing is about this seems some kind of crossover thing. With the low price I'll take the chance.

I'd be remiss not to mention the Rick Remender sale currently on Comixology.

His 35 issue run on Uncanny X-Force was IMO the greatest X-Men related arc since Claremont's heyday.
Probably the best thing to come out of Marvel in at least a decade, it's certainly worth a look.

Humble Book Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/books) has switched over to a horror theme, with a mix of (digital DRM-Free) Graphic Novels from a variety of publishers.

Don't know if people have seen this but Dark Horse are having final horrah with their Star Wars line. You can buy their entire output of Star Wars comics (quite a lot of comics over 500 apparently!) for just $300, digital of course. Or do what I did and pick and choose what you like at incredibly cheap prices. I got over 80 comics for $70ish less than 50 quid.

Best deal there (in my mind) was you can the all the omnibii (spelling) containing all the issues from Marvel's wonderful original run (110ish issues) for $22.49 (if you do the digital thing) thats less than 15 quid. I have all the Long Time Ago trades so didn't need these but they are great old school fun.

Still as it was I picked by stuff my Colin Wilson, Paul Chadwick, Cam Kennedy, Al Williamson amongst many many more.

Well worth checking out I'd say

Hush is worth reading if you get it cheap- though it is painfully obvious what is going on.

I've taken a punt on the Long Halloween from this sale as I'd never read that and like a bit of Tim Sale art.

I picked up Hush, Earth One and Batman Eternal vol 1 (when it was going cheap). Hush was against my better judgment, as I found Long Halloween extremely tedious, but Earth One looks nice. Batman Eternal is quite enjoyable so far (two issues in).

For less then 20 American Dollars you can get more Image comics then you might be literally able to shake a stick at.

Humble Image Comics Bundle 2 (https://www.humblebundle.com/books)

Seriously, there is some INSANE value here. And MORE comics will be added to to bundle latter. !!!

Love the fact that you can decide where your monies go to as well. Gave almost half to Image, almost half to Heroes Initiative and what seemed like a fair booking fee to Humble Bundle themselves.

Paid a little more then needed just to try to pay each a little extra as it was such a good deal.

Grrrr. This is evil! Someday soon all comics will be digital and this kind of deal will be the cause!

I jest. Read a few free digital comics (Fatale #1 springs to mind) and although I prefer paper... it's much the same experience. Hm. It's so conflicting.

The Divine + The Wicked was a pretty interesting read. I'm not sure if I would have stuck with it in singles though. Shades of Zenith.

Ditto on the interesting, looked good but gave up after issue 3 or 4. An odd comic. Hyped.

That's whats great about this Bundle there's a number of comics I've thought hmmm maybe but have gone for in there. With have 5 to 6 issues to try I can give a load a good go and see which I might follow up on at very low risk...

... which of course is what Image are hoping so we all win.

An insane Humble Books Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/books) this week. IDW/Top Shelf. All Lock & Key, all Top Shelf era LoEG, both March volumes, two Parker GNs, and assorted odds and ends for under $20 American.

This is currently the only way to get LoEG titles DRM-Free I think.

Ha! You know what's great about Humble Bundle is everyone wins, everyone. I really liked the charity on this one and so gave a little extra, not much but I didn't want either Top Shelf or my tip (after all if you don't do the tip you don't get the website) to miss out so I could support it, so put a little extra in and still got an incredible deal.

Humble Bundle is the best thing about going digital!

Some hefty bargains available on Vertigo GNs at Comixology (https://www.comixology.co.uk/comics-sale?list_id=8523&lang=1).

Including V for Vendetta and digital editions of the new, bumper-sized Hellblazer trades for £2.99 a pop. I traded up to the new edition of Original Sins with the missing Swamp Thing episodes and the first two post-Ennis volumes. Good chance I'll go back and get the 2nd and 4th as my bricks-and-mortar collection is missing a couple of issues from each. And there's obviously no way I could countenance a collection of anything which goes: 1, 2, _, 4.

So far I've read the Eddie Campbell story which comes immediately after Ennis run (and Delano's stinky-pinky one-off.) It was a lot better than I remembered, although maybe I'm mixing it up in my head with the Jenkins run. Getting John back out in the world and messing with different supernatural forces beyond the predominantly Christian mythological focus of the preceding 40 issues was definitely a good thing.

It also turned out to be where I got the "Eris-named-after-the-Goddess-of-confusion" schtick, which I used to mutter in relation to dwarf planets, from when I thought it had been Sandman.

I bought the first Jenkins storyline at the time but soon gave up. I'm looking forward to giving it another chance.

Well that's quite something. I could spend a small fortune there, but what to get, what to get... I reckon I can justify two completed series (and V, its astonishing how long it is since I read V)... cos ya know I don't own enough comics.

I'm pretty certain I'll go for Scalped as one of those. Always been intrigued by that, haven't read much Jason Aaron, but you hear such good things and well its always getting compared to The Sopranos which is still possibly the best telly show ever so yeah I think that gets one slot. The other... well I've got it down to...

DMZ - love The Massive and always been interested in this, never tried
Preacher - To this day still never read any of this and common understanding seems to suggest I really should
Sweet Tooth - Just love the idea, seems so wonderfully different, think this might be the front runner.

I think I should also be considering both 100 Bullets and Transmetropolitan as you hear such good things, but for whatever reason they just don't grab me as much as the others I've listed. So yeah any advice, suggestions, tips?

This just reminds me how much good stuff (apparently) came out during my wilderness years that I've still to check out.

... So yeah any advice, suggestions, tips?
Not really. At the price you can obviously just buy the first couple to try with no remorse. Then you run the risk of doing what I did with Wasteland: get the first few dirt cheap in the sale, end up enjoying it a lot but balk at the idea of paying full price for the rest!

My views on your choices, for what it's worth.

Scalped - read the first one. Didn't enjoy it. Not because it was bad, but because every single character in it was a horrific cunt. Wiser heads than me can see past that to the quality of the material.
DMZ - Have them all. Enjoyed it up to a point but, for some reason, have never got round to reading the last 15 or so. Prefer Northlanders.
Preacher - Massively overrated but worth giving it a try. For an Ennis/Dillon fix, their Hellblazer run covers an awful lot of the same ground plotwise and is far better. At least in part because the nature of the character means Ennis has to keep his fetishisation of the Sands of Iwo Jima All American Hero to a minimum. If you think that's his best side then knock yourself out.
Sweet Tooth - Dunno.

DMZ - I'll add to the people saying the is better then The Massive
Preacher - Personally I think this is the greatet comic series ever writen and is a steal at that price!

If you don't already, my advice is to use your local library! I've read lots of DMZ, Sweet tooth, 100 bullets, transmetropolitan, Scalped, Ex Machina, HellBoy and many other series for free that way. Perfect for series you want to check out but not necesarilly own.

Indeed. Libraries seem to be opening to to the idea of a wider range of comics on their shelves. My local has complete runs of Y the Last Man, Grandville, Barefoot Gen, Hellblazer, and the first dozen Judge Dredd Casefiles.
Title: Re: Bargains/deals thread (?)

Indeed - the only problem is getting them in the right order. I also read Y the Last Man ove a couple of years but jumping around the run depending on what's available, but I recently managed to get 9 of 10 volumes at one time and binged on it.

Still annoyed that Manchester Libraries have multiple copies of Locke & Keye vols 1,2 and 4, but not a  single vol 3 anywhere in Gtr Manchester!

I actually ordered the second Grandville book (Mon Amour?) second hand, which turned out to be ex library stock.

It also turned out to be in German. Which I do not speak. I really don't think there was any indication in the description either, so I'm sure the fault is not mine.

By the way... if anyone here is fluent in German, or has German friends/relatives who are into comic books,  please PM me if you'd like it for reasonable price...

To combine two of these themes, I quite enjoyed Ex Machina up to book 8. Which was the last one Glasgow library service got in. I did have a conversation with a woman in my local about the perennial issue of gaps in series and she told me that they get far more thieving of comics than any other section.

Back onto the subject of new bargains I was walking past a charity shop this evening and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a snowboard complete with bindings for the princely sum of 85 Francs (about sixty quid) and even more delighted to find it was just my size. So I snapped that bad boy right up. It's even decorated with an image that looks uncannily like Samuel Jackson as Shaft!

Okay so was going to get all three series (being Sweet Tooth, Scalped and DMZ) plus a couple of the one shots. I put them all in and it came to... well quite a lot. So bottled it. As DMZ was the biggest I took it out and got the other two. I'm now waiting to see if over the remain couple of days of the sale the prospect of missing out nags away enough that I break and get DMZ as well...

Oh, FFS! Grant Morrison sale on Comixology (https://www.comixology.co.uk/comics-sale?list_id=8599&lang=1).

You'd be a fool not to snap up Doom Patrol if you haven't read it. Seaguy and Kid Eternity (great Fegredo art) also worth a look of the less heralded stuff.

I'll definitely grab the final Invisibles trade just for the redrawn Ashley Wood pages. Any views on his Action Comics run? I haven't heard anyone talk about it.

Oh god. Why do I keep coming in this thread?

The Filth is excellent value at £2.99, with some breathtaking artwork from our very own Chris Weston. WE3 is worth a punt too.

I've gone for Flex Mentallo as I've never read it. Managed to stop myself from buying multiple volumes on this occasion.

No, no no no no. I can't hear you.

I've just stopped myself spending £90 on the Vertigo sale (by doing so spending only £50 was basically like earning money... no really it is) and now this. Thankfully I got all the 'essential GMozz stuff that I didn't previously own and I can resist Invisibles... no really I can... I can...

Yeah this one was a bit of a kick in the dick money wise for I'd be good with the Vertigo sale only got Scalped. Then is come out and I got like two of his runs and a bunch of one off collections.

Volume 1 (think that's the first three trades) is as good as Morrison's ever been. Which, at least for me, is pretty close to being as good as comics have ever been.

I was prepared to be wowed by the first Invisibles, but it never quite did it for me. Still good though.  That could change of course if I ever get around to a re-read...

But like you say, anyone yet to experience Doom Patrol really should run towards it. Immense fun.

Read most(?) of Morrison's Action run in UK reprint form, it's classy and highly regarded from what I can remember.

Not sure how well regarded it is but I'm a big fan. I need to re-read it as one(ish) but overall it was typically GMozz, inventive, exciting, crazy and also quite an astonishing amount of fun. The entire 18 issue run is really one story so if you haven't read it all worth a pop I'd say.

One of the best runs Marvel have ever produced IMO, 50 issues of Nicieza at the top of his game.

Suspend your cynicism, it's hilarious.

Rising Stars is pretty good (It's by J Michael Strazcisnskzcxczixnxkzkzxinski -pretty much Midwich Cuckoos with Superheroes). The only other one I've read anything of is Witchblade which was awful.

Whitchblade as a concept is fantastic, but was mired in fanservice and muddy art for decades. The recent reboot, Switch, is a remarkably fantastic and fresh comic book. Really recommend that.

The Top Cow bundle is both tempting, but a low priority. I really like Ron Marz, and he's been writing a lot of Top Cow for a number of years. But I have no real interest in Top Cow as a property.

That said, complete Rising Stars and Midnight Nation might be enough to get me to jump on it. At least those are know qualities.

Uh that's a good fine some superb stuff there. I picked up StarSlammers - well 300ish pages of Walt Simonson for 5 quid what's not to love about that! And Winterworld, the ongoing (well it was but its included in this sale) was pretty good so always meant to pick this up.

If anyone is thinking of getting any Rocketeer I say defo go Cargo of Doom that was relly good, Spirit and was pretty disappointing given how unreasonably excited I was by it.

Rio is brilliant BUT if you can splash out on the physical copy its a quite beautiful thing.

I'm tempted by that but really can I justify it... really. I've not been that impressed by anything I've read by Kirkman, a lot of it is okay BUT this has always intrigued me. I know the... big thing that happens. So yeah is there a decent cut off point to read up to, so say the first 50 issues?
Title: Re: Bargains/deals thread (?)
Post by: Hawkmumbler on 06 November, 2015, 09:22:27 pm
Well i've read the first 50 issues in the firat compendium volume, and though I can't say #50 is an ideal end point the series is too good to pass up on.

I know the incident your refering too can be...off putting, but don't let it be such. It's a comparativly minor stumble that actualy has a nice comeback later on.

And the deals keep coming. Next up Sandman. You can get the ten trades that I think cover the entire series for 40 quid. Now that seems a pretty good deal to me... so am I being utterly wrong headed to not be interested?

I had all of Sandman back in the day up to half way through The Kindly Ones and really liked it BUT since getting back into comics I've had not interest in revisiting? Don't ask me why not sure I could explain it but when its this cheap should I try it again... should I...

Zavvi are doing a £10.00 Zbox sale. (http://www.zavvi.com/offers/zbox/offer/bundle-2.list?widget_id=165165) It includes the Cops one which, I think, includes that Judge Dredd badge, and Renegades, which contains the Rogue Trooper dog tags.

Whether the latter is worth it, I'm not sure. It does contain a soft Deadpool toy which I actually kind of like, but I don't think will be everyone's cup of tea.

Sorry, it's near the end now. I should have posted this earlier.

They also advertise that they are selling individual items from past zboxes. I haven't been able to access the link but maybe you'll have better luck.

Black Science I didn't like at all. The art for issue 01 was great but immediately it switched to a quicker technique and I was out at the end of the first arc. It was very Swiss family Robinson in time/space and I couldn't give a toot about any of the characters.

Stray Bullets is the best monthly out there bar none. The compendium is essential comics (that page when Spanish Scott is at the end of the bed is one of the great 'oh shiiiiiit' moments in comics) and the 2014 - return has been brilliant. The current story Sunshine and Roses is pretty twisty tho so start at the start of it if you are tempted. Unlike Black Science the characters are brilliantly written and you do care about how the story will end up for them.

Also worth looking at from image is Dark Corridor, 8house (prophet meets game of thrones) and the island anthology.

I keep meaning to get Black Science, I've heard such good things about it!

Cool thanks everyone. I got all Stray Bullets (up to Sunshine and Roses cos that ain't finished yet), Black Science (up and inc 17), Egos, Supreme Blue Rose, Big Man Plans. All for about 50quid.

Prices so good I'm tempted to double dip and try again later... well I was until I realised that I've now got 900 digital comics in the last year and hardly any of them have yet to make it to the top of my reading list! The best thing about going semi digital is the insane baragains you can pick up and how it diversifies what you read. Loving it!

Or publishers in on the act (come on Rebellion!) Dynamite (who sell their stuff on the Dark Horse app) have a 99 cent on everything (including recent stuff). Not as much of interest to me BUT will pick up Joe Casey's Captain Victory, Zorro and Django (I know of at least one fan of that here) and reprints of the first 6 issues of DCs Shadow with Sienkiewicz (spelling?) art.

If you don't own them worth checking this out for Warren Ellis' excellent James Bond, first two issues available.

Ennis did a lot of great stuff for Dynamite including Just A Pilgrim (with Carlos), Battlefields (inc. Carlos and PJ) as well as the better known The Boys, Red Team and Jennifers Blood. One thing to definately get is the Battlefields series 'Dear Billy' which is a brilliant touching story of great seriousness and handled with a deft touch.

I bought the 1978 2000 AD annual from a comic shop today for £10.00.

I kind of did it on a whim as I know some of this old material can be worth quite a lot.

The cover is a little tatty,(but it could be a lot worse, it's mainly wear to the edges) and the pages are yellowed (which is understandable). More of concern is that some of the pages are coming loose from the spine.

Apart from that, it okay. I love that musty old book smell. I just wonder, is £10.00 a good deal for this?

https://www.humblebundle.com/books/getbooks?utm_source=Humble+Bundle+Newsletter&utm_campaign=01850f547b-Humble_Comics_Bundle_Image_Comics_3&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_990b1b6399-01850f547b-134286173&mc_cid=01850f547b&mc_eid=80efd3e292 (https://www.humblebundle.com/books/getbooks?utm_source=Humble+Bundle+Newsletter&utm_campaign=01850f547b-Humble_Comics_Bundle_Image_Comics_3&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_990b1b6399-01850f547b-134286173&mc_cid=01850f547b&mc_eid=80efd3e292)

I mean I bought all of the Stray Bullets comics in their Boxing Day sale and now that looks like a bad deal as all 41 issues are part of this bundle, as well as 47 issues of Invincible (which I resisted temptation to buy) and the first trades for Nowhere Men (an absolute must, quite superb comics), Phonogram, Bitch Planet, Kaptara, Injection, Trees, Outcast, Jupiter's Circle and many, many, MANY more.

Seriously worth a look. I know I'm in.. again!

Godammit. I *NEVER* get emails about the comics bundles, despite ticking the box, yet get bloody PC games ones regular as clockwork. Thanks, Colin, for posting about this. I'd have missed it otherwise.

Got myself a whole bunch of stuff in the Boxing Day sale (thanks to this thread!) but luckily Bitch Planet is the only title that overlaps with this Bundle. Quite pleased I didn't splurge on Stray Bullets and Saga vol. 4 now!

Have you checked your junk mail, just in case? Or if you're using an Android device  with the Inbox app it has a tendency to compartmentalize mail under categories. So this type of thing might be under Promotions.

That being said, while I do get humble Bundle marks,I'm not sure I get all of them.

I've signed up multiple times, and emails aren't in junk. I suspect a problem their end with the database. I've also repeated my other gripe to them: the lack of a 'download all' option. Perhaps I'm missing something, but as far as I can tell, you must download each item individually, which is a pain in the backside when there are dozens of individual issues. I'd pay extra for 'download all books as PDF'.

Amen to that.

I've still got plenty of stuff unread from the last two Image bundles but each one has had the desired effect of getting me to start picking up an ongoing series and there's been enough good stuff that getting this one is a no-brainer.

Oh, in other bargain news, I bought a pair of hardly used snowboard boots for roughly seven quid yesterday.

The Goddammed and Citizen Jack (in the single issue #1s pile) are both really worth your time.

As is Trees. Bloody love that series. Reads like it belongs in 2000AD.

Last day for the Humble Image bundle. I finally gave in, and honestly its probably a hell of a value.  The Stay Bullets, Invincible, Wayward, and Nowhere Men collections are probably worth it alone.

The Previous Image bundle was a hell of a value too with Saga Book 1 (this bundle's Vol 4 and 5, pick up from where it left off), Walking Dead, and Manhattan Projects, and honestly I don't think it was as good a deal as this one.

Has Saga 3 ever been part of a Humble Bundle? I now have 1, 2, 4 and 5 from them. (I have all the print books anyway, but was just wondering.)

I still haven't downloaded most of the last one. Click. Wait. Download single comic. Click. Wait. Download single comic. Click. Wait. Download single comic. Click. Wait. Download single comic. Click. The Humble Image Comics Bundle had v1 and 2. Did I miss a bundle? If so: nuts.

EDIT: Aha! I just looked through my MASSIVE LIST OF STUFF, and, yep, 'Saga Book One (#1–18)' is lurking in the 'image firsts' bundle. \o/

Dublin-based Squaxx might be interested to know that Oxfam on Aungier/George's St (never know which it is - beside The George anyway) have two big boxes of comics in, including progs and megs, Shakara Vol 2 (€4), LoEG Vol 1 and DKR (€5) softbacks. Also sundry other collections including Abnett Warhammer stuff, 20th C Boys and lots of how-to-draw fantasy boob-art books too.

Yeah, but that still means clicking a billion links. Imagine buying a 40-track album from Amazon or iTunes and you then having to click every single track to download it.
Title: Re: Bargains/deals thread (?)

Though to be fair Humble Bundle is run on a shoe string, certainly compared to iTunes. They offer such fantastic deals and are funded on the leftovers that buyers choose to give (watch some one turn up now with evidence to show that they make billions $ every year!).

That's why I opt to give extra when I purchase HBs. Figure the publishers deserve a decent cut to get them to do it again, the charities almost always seem decent and Humble Bundle deserve a fair cut to keep them going ... so end up not being able to keep all ends balanced so give extra AND still feel I'm getting a smacking good deal!

Oh, agreed entirely. Really, the download thing is my only gripe, and I suspect it's probably as much to do with bandwidth as anything. (That said 'collect everything as one torrent' would also do me.)

Different issues where of varying quality. The Dark Angel, Deaths Head, and Captain Britain stories where excellent. The rest was just OK but it's still one of the better stand alone story arcs Marvel has done in quite some time.

Just got back from town and The Works in Sheffield has opened in a sparkly new location. Anyway popped in and found a lovely hardcover of 'Birth of a Legend' covering all 39 of the original Marvel UK issues and a couple of the Super Spider-man issues for 6 quid!

I've always wanted to read these so while I think they might be a bit rubbish for 6 quid who can complain and seems to have some good back matter too. If I don't like it in a couple of years when it gets to the top of my read spread sheet, tenner on eBay and everyone is still winning!

Of course it would be very churlish to bemaon the fact they didn't have volume 2 'Seige of Camelot' in there as well! Would LOVE to get that stuff again.

Interesting that its the first volume that's hard to get hold of. My experience is that normally you can get the first volume of any particular trade series but its the subsequent ones that are a dog to get hold of, as I assume they have smaller print runs. Yes 'Journey' Volume 2 I'm looking at you!

Anyway I'm sure you've seen this Hawkmonger being the digital chap you are but the Kindle verison of volume one is only £7.12

Hmm, I see what you mean - spent most of my day off yesterday playing this and it's basically just Civ 5 with a few mods. Instead of accumulating and spending gold, you accumulate and spend energy, instead of mining coal iron and gems you're looking for titanium, geothermal vents and xenomass pits.

The gameplay and almost everything else is virtually identical. I've still to explore the various victory conditions and the different "virtues" (which replace policies); and the tech tree is rather different - as the starting point is interstellar travel they've really had to work hard to create a similar number of tech advances - it's all cytogenetics and nanorobotics. The alien critters that replace barbarians and wild animals are pretty cool though.

It's a good job I love Civ5 so I should still get a lot of gameplay out of this, but I was hoping for a bit more imagination and variety in the execution.

Possibly stretching a point to call them 'classic SF', unless we're also going to include stuff like The Butlerian Jihad and Sisterhood of Dune in that category...?

Other good stuff in that bundle, mind.

I can't actually name a dud in that entire list (Seven Deadly Sins is the only one i've never read) for the price is exceptional value. Attack on Titan is great, whilst Soace Brothers, Inuyashiki, and Alita are prog worthy sci-fi. Jump in it!

Oh man, that is a an amazing bundle. My only disappointment is that I got Knights of Sidonia Vol 1 - 3 in a previous Humble Bundle, and was hoping to see Vol. 4 and beyond in a future bundle. (actually my biggest disappointment is that Kodansha doesn't release DRM-Free editions of their manga through any other means, except their Humble Bundles. Boo)

Attack on Titan, Parasyte, Inuyashiki, Ajin, and Battle Angel Alita are all up 2000 AD fan's alleys. Even Vinland Saga, if you want some epic bronze age fantasy.

Hawke/Adventurer, is the manga bundle suitable for teens?

Are we talking above or below 15? If below, I hate to say it, but no. Except for maybe Fairly Tail and Space Brothers most of these skew toward graphic depictions of violence and mature psychological situations. If they've already been exposed to, say, Attack on Titan, and have been okay with it, you'd probably be fine though.

Manga can be tricky like that. As the cultural differences come out in things like sex and violence most strongly.

To be fair this particular company publishes mostly older teen/adult products in North America.

People like Garth Ennis, right?

Humble Ennis Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/books/garth-ennis-dynamite-bundle)

Must be good, must be good, must be good...
Ennis's The Shadow is really rather good though...

It's as extreme as its gets for Ennis, so a hard one to recommend cold, but if it's pure adult entertainment you're after- yes, it's very good.
I didn't read it when it was published, but devoured every single trade in a very short time period (maybe about 3-4 weeks) two years ago. A roller-coaster ride of violence, satire and comedy with some excellent artwork to boot.
I'm sure most of us are already fans of the accomplished Robertson and McCrea, but it was Russ Braun's work that stood out for me in the later volumes.
Never has stomach churning violence looked so beautiful- he's an amazing artist.

This Humble Bundle looks like a goer for me- I've never read any of the Battlefield comics, and they're generally highly regarded.

As a rule, I don't like Garth Ennis. I generally find his brand of shock value writing to be more off putting then most. His way of tearing down 'superheroes' always felt like low hanging fruit to me.

That said, I tossed a buck at the bundle to get the first four Boys trades, just to get a taste. To be sure I wasn't just perpetuating old out of date prejudices against a creator. I figure its worth refreshing myself on why I don't like a creator periodically.

I DEVOURED the first two trades of The Boys. Its not, great, but its actually written kind of smart. And I kind of like the cast. There are the cheap eyerolling shock gags to be sure (Dog rape, 'Love Sausage', ugggggggggggg) but its not... terrible. I'll probably end up tossing another 16 bucks at it next week to get the whole run.

It's not great but it's probably worth reading once and you can't really go wrong when you're getting the whole run for a tenner.

I have (or have read: think I flogged The Boys to someone on here) everything in the bundle except The Shadow and I'm still thinking of getting it!

That was my plan with the Kodansha bundle, but the picture quality was so bad I decided not to bother.

A couple things about that.

The PDF and ePub files all look great, HD quality. For whatever reason a majority of the CBZ files were horrible and low res. No ideas why. But I say WAS because I personally sent their support an email about it, with comparison images showing how bad they were. And within a week they had improved the CBZ files to HD quality. So jump on that if you're still interested. Edit: crap, it's over now.

During the wait I discovered something interesting though about my comic eReader of choice, Chunky is ePub file friendly. They load up no problem, and don't have the page turn lag, or bloated file size problems that PDF seems to have.

At any rate the Ennis bundle has no issues, which isn't unexpected since Dynimite offers their comics as DRM-free already, so they've got CBZs figured out.

Yeah, since posting that I've discovered the epub versions look pretty good. The CBZs seem to have been updated, but they're now enormous files (1.1 GB for Attack on Titan volume 1). The previous CBZs (and the PDFs, at least when I tried them) were utter garbage, like bad scanlations. It's a shame they didn't get it right to start with, but I guess I've saved money in the long run by not getting balls-deep into Attack on Titan and having to buy all 19 volumes!

Chunky also attempts to upscale in an intelligent manner, unlike the bulk of its contemporaries. I really hope a lot of people are paying for the IAP and supporting the dev. I think he was far too generous in making the app free.

Well Dave Sim did say Cerebus was to enter the public domain upon his death...which i'm fairly sure hasn't happened.

And that the characters within are free to use and copyright free already. I lawd the man for upholding his personal ethics but where does he get his money from if now his property? XD

First trade of Mark Millar's Jupiters Legacy is free on Comixology, currently. Not sure for how long.

Can't say no to free. And I've had a copy of Jupiters Circle from a Humble Bundle ages ago.

As a rule I'm not a fan of Millar, but after reading both this definitely feels more on the Superman Red Son spectrum. Its not mean spirited like I find many of Millar's comics, nor a poorly thought out screenplay in comic form. I'm not sure if this'll get me to read Jupiter's Legacy 2, but its definitely more on my radar now.

I've had a quick scan through it over the weekend, and, unsurprisingly, it is absolutely lovely to look at.

Will need to get a spare hour and see how it holds up as regards the writing. Hopefully, as you say, it isn't the general, mean spirited 'homages' that Millar seems to produce.

Big Image sale on comixology at the moment. You can catch up on East of West, among others.

There's also a sale on the Titan Dr Who comics which seem to be employing so many of our favourite creators. I got the first storylines of the Al Ewing and Robbie Morrison ones. Don't know if I've missed out on any extras, but the single issues work out cheaper than the trades.

One-Punch Man I can see as being very marmite to someone who doesn't read manga on a regular basis. What I will say though is devour the first volume, then decide what your take on it is. Often times manga chapters read better in the collected format and OPM is no exception. Also, the art gets crazy good early on.

And it doesn't appear to be on the UK comixology anyway... :|

It's about Saitama, a man, bored with his life to the point of narcissism, who one day decided he wanted to be a superhero (explained in chapter 2). Only problem is he became too strong, and now defeats every villain he encounters with a single punch. So he's back to being bored and narcistic...and jobless. The comic is a series of bizarre adventures where Saitama finds himself against increasingly outlandish circumstances, the real joy comes from his interactions with the supporting cast. The series has a vinyet style attitude to story arcs so theres no real over hanging motives or goals (recent developments however might tip that out of balance) instead utilising Saitamas dead pan attitude to life to achieve some genuinly brilliant comedic timing.

It also acts as a giant piss take (and love letter) to the super hero and shounen genres.

And the art is fucking amazing, did I mention the art?!

Ha! Over in 'What's Everyone Reading' town I've just shot my nerd bolt (thank you sir if you pick up the reference) over the first Volume of Elephantmen which I've just read and said I'm going to have to trackdown the rest. Well the comics Gods are smiling on fatboy today and after thinking some of the hardcopies are looking a little steep and hard to get hold of (shame as I'd have prefered these) I stumbled over to Comixology to see what you can get digitally, thinking I could wait for the next Image sale.

Well turns out there is no wait as image have a San Deigo themed sale on RIGHT NOW with a host of trades available for £2.99 (take that Bexit comic cost increases) including all the Elephantmen trades.

I'm holding off just to check a couple of other hardcopy channels but suspect in the morning I'll be about 30 quid lighter but dancing a jig of comicy happiness. I love these regular Image sales!

It's a fun reminder of the glory days of football comics. I'm really looking forward to the second issue.

It's a shame it's not in the newsagents, as I think it would really appeal to a lot of kids and show them there's life in comics beyond superheroes and burly men with guns (unless they appear in issue 2).

I used to adore Mad and bought it every month , but that was back in the 80s. I'm not saying the mag changed ( it struck me as having timeless editorial conventions - I bought one recently and the tone was identical - even down to reprinting a "classic" strip I remembered first time around) but I think I changed in my tastes. The humour is VERY American-centric, and the movie "satires" are very predictable; but there are lots of good gags and funny recurrent strips.

It's the sort of publication that's great to read on an ongoing basis when the news stories and movies they're talking about are current, but I wouldn't buy a historical run.

Yeah when you look at that selection its a right range of issues and I suspect they will all have a similar format to the issues I had in the early 80s... but its tempting. That's the joy (and purpose) of the Humble Bunble I guess great way to dip your toe in AND a years sub included in the £6 level... hmmm tempting

Hi All, seeing as Thought Bubble is rolling round again, that means that there are new issues inbound for FutureQuake, Dogbreath, Something Wicked AND ZArjaz.

Package Holiday from FQ25 by Andi Ewington & Conor Boyle

So to try and clear some room I'm reminding folks that back issues of FutureQuake & something Wicked are all £2.50 each (a price drop of up to £1.50 per issue in some cases)

http://www.futurequake.co.uk/imagebucket/SW10/SchrodingersHatBlog.jpg[/img]](http://www.futurequake.co.uk/imagebucket/SW10/SchrodingersHatBlog.jpg) (http://[img)

Zarjaz & Dogbreath are such strotnig value that we aren't able to drop their prices.

Head over to The FQP Shop (http://www.futurequake.co.uk/shop.php) and either pick yourself a single issue bargain from the issues available or PM me to get multiple issues with combined postage!

Also, for those who prefer digital comics, FQP have got a few titles out on Comixology (https://www.comixology.co.uk/FutureQuake-Press/comics-publisher/7307-0?ref=c2VhcmNoL2luZGV4L2Rlc2t0b3Avc2xpZGVyTGlzdC9pbXByaW50U2xpZGVy), including the very first issue we did.

There are a few days left of the IDW Transformers Revolution Humble Bundle, it includes a whole bunch of Transformers runs and some GI-Joe stuff too. I think most everything leading up to this Revolution crossover thing with ROM, M.A.S.K, and the Micronauts.

But what makes this bundle reallllllllly cool, is its got the entire run of Tom Scioli's Transformers vs GI JOE series, (which is seriously awesome and completely stand alone). and, like, 18 volumes of Transformers More then Meets the Eye and Robots in Disguise at the $8 tier. That's a stupid good deal for dumb comics about transforming robots.

Also, Street Fighter X GI JOE has got to be worth a read. Cause, damn.

Another month, another Image sale on Comixology (https://www.comixology.co.uk/comics-sale?list_id=14034&lang=1). Looks like you can get all but the most recent trades of a whole bunch of serieses there.

I'm a bit pissed off though, as I noticed a Chew sale at the weekend and thought I'd pick up a couple more of those but I was too slow and that's one title which isn't included in this. Fiddlesticks.

I'll be havin a birra that.

Monstress & Papergirls are on my wishlist anyway- can't pass the first collections up at those prices.

As for stuff I've already read- I would heartedly recommend Prophet (bizarre sci-fi with a 2000AD flavour) and Sex Criminals (laugh out loud funny).

If we're doing recommendations. Get C.O.W.L. , They're Not Like Us as my top recommendations. Though there's so much good stuff there.

Me I'm trying to avoid these thing as I'm so behind in my reading BUT I'll be getting me some more Southern Bastards and I might as well pick up the rest of Nailbiter. As I said here even though its a bad comic, its a great fun bad comic!

But no more... no more...

Might need to give Prophet a try, it's been 'one comic too far' that I've resisted as yet...

And at quick glance at this sale C.O.W.L. really needs more recognition and deserved better than its cancellation.

How you would find out if there sales for graphic novels on iBooks?
Title: Re: Bargains/deals thread (?)
Post by: IndigoPrime on 25 November, 2016, 04:08:46 pm
I've no idea. Do people actually buy graphic novels on iBooks? I'm almost entirely Apple here, and I've never bothered myself. (I bought a couple on Amazon, but despise the reader. These days, I go DRM-free and read everything on the iPad using Chunky (http://www.stuff.tv/app-reviews/attenboroughs-story-life/review).)

Yeah, never bought GNs on iBoks. Kindle and Comixology being linked (and many ComiXlgy books being DRM free) basically creates a monopoly at this point. Sadly.

You can get a lot of the Amazon eBook thingies via Comixology these days. Which is a good job as I bought Barbarella  from Amazon (admitedly for bobbins) and it was virtualy unreadable the navigtion was so bad. Luckily its been converted to Comixology and reads fine - phew.

You're in for a real treat, it is unfeasibly brilliant: one of the best sustained runs ins Marvel history, in fact. Particular highlights include the Frog Thor issues and the rightly-lauded 'He Stood Alone at Gjallerbru' bit. Plus at one point, Judge Dredd turns up (sort of.)

Just had a look at this. The Comixology app has an option to adjust the speed or completely turn off transition animations. If you drag your finger to move the page you'll still get a bit of page-turning effect but tapping makes it snap to the following page without any other effect.

Huh. I'll have to take another look, then, if only to bask in another comics app actually possibly understanding that hurling pages across the screen is a very bad thing for potentially millions of people. (Even so, I'm still not a fan of buying content that sits within an app I can't extract anything from. But in big sales for once-only reads, that might be all right.)

EDIT: Well, how pleasing. They've basically added precisely the thing I nagged them about several times, before giving up when it didn't appear over the space of a couple of years. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Yeah I've heard copious amounts of praise about this, from all sorts of places. I'm going to hold out for a sale that includes the second volume (may be a while as I think its just out) but this is defo on the list.

Oh and that hope of holding out and not buying the Walt Simonson 's Thor run... well that didn't last, yet more for the reading list!

Popped into forbidden planet in London today and picked up these beauties that were on sale that might be of 2000ad interest:

Alan Moore DC Universe Hardcover £9.99
Jonny Nemo hardcover £4.50
Complete Accident Man Hardcover £4.99

Steal! And there's tons left of those and others. Great sale.

Wikipedia has a run-down of content.
It may be that some are out-of-stock, based on the navigation failing to show one title I selected (merely browsing). Don't quote me on that.

Another Image Humble Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/books/image-comics-book-bundle). Smartly, perhaps, it's a load of #1s for the first two tiers. Pay $10 or more and you start unlocking digital trades. For the more, it's very generous – $20 gets you, by my count, 36 digital trades. So that's 50p each or thereabouts. Included is 18 issues of Saga, the first Wicked + Devine, Prophet, and more. If you've grabbed previous Image HBs, there's naturally crossover, but even so, 50p per book…

There's a fair bit of stuff in there which I've already got from other bundles but enough new stuff that going for the highest tier is still a no-brainer. I think about 80% of my non-2000AD related comics buying is stuff I've been introduced to through these bundles.

And does anybody know anything about this Pathfinder RPG thing (https://www.humblebundle.com/books/pathfinder-worldscape-book-bundle)? Worth a few quid for something I'll never play but might enjoy reading the rules?
Title: Re: Bargains/deals thread (?)
Post by: IndigoPrime on 22 January, 2017, 02:33:05 pm
I was thinking the same initially about duplicates. But even if you only get, say, ten new (to you) books, that's still a hell of a lot for the outlay. Meanwhile, I saw people whining on Facebook because there aren't enough volume 2s and they already have lots of volume 1s. The poor dears. (And, natch, the 'threats' then came that there were "plenty of other ways to get the same comics for nothing". Yep. Well done, you. You're not at all why creative industries are hurting.)

So I'll buy up this one next month (already exceeded this month's non-essentials quota), and be happy with whatever's new, while thinking Image are pretty bloody amazing for offering deals like this in the first place. And then I'll likely add a load more Image stuff to my list of future trade purchases, as I did last time.

Thought: I wonder whether Rebellion might one day enter into a deal like this? A Humble Bundle of 2000 AD-related stuff could be really cool. Give away a bunch of Megs/2000 ADs at the lower tiers, along with the odd digital special. Have a handful of trades at the higher tiers. The Meg mini-trades could always be used to pad things out in some ways, without affecting potential purchases of proper trades. And with Dredd, you wouldn't want to impact on the cash cow that is the Case Files series by offering best seller #1 for nothing, but the odd thing from the line could presumably be plonked in there as a taster, to encourage people to buy more.

Pathfinder is like a tweaked and improved version of D&D 3.0, so lots of skills, classes/sub classes, etc. Interesting base setting where the adventurers are assumed to be members of an adventurer's guild, explorers/mercenaries for hire (the pathfinder society). The worldbuilding around it has things like ancient submarine aliens manipulating human evolution, which is nice.

I think there's a squaxx who plays Pathfinder somewhere on the board. Generally I hear it's the best version of that style of Pen & Paper RPG - more varied than the combat/dungeon crawling of AD&D/1st edition or the MMORPG fighting of 4th, more crunchy and mechanical than 5th edition or something like Dungeon World. The preferred version of the rule system that drove video games like Neverwinter Nights (or to a lesser extent, Baldurs Gate which I think was 2nd edition based).

I've met lots of DMs who use Pathfinder adventure paths to add content to their own campaigns, even if theyr'e not playing Pathfinder. I would say probably worth a few quid if you can spare it in summary!

That IDW Humble Bundle is simply fantastic. Maxx as has been said is astonishing. I'm guessing it won't be to all tastes but if it clicks with you, as it did with me (and Hawkmumbler) you in for a very rare, very rare treat indeed. Not like anything else out there.

Also enjoy Winter World, fun action comics, Little Nemo is a little gem and not surprised to see Link Prime recommend the simply wonderful Ragnarok. I've got Lock and Key and the Parker books (well its the late GREAT Darwyn Cooke so they gonna be good) lined up for reading soon from some deal other.

So yeah I won't be going for this but if you don't have those I've mentioned this is a FANTASTIC deal.

So, have gone digital in the last few mins and subscribed to prog & meg.
Daft question: why is the combined subscription WAY more expensive than prog & meg separately? Weird.
Anyway, this week's prog looks lovely on future-paper. No more fiddly comics & bags for me.

Main point: the Maxx vol. 1 & 2, for a digital buck? My long-term goal was to read the early Max.
I foresaw some hardbacks, but this will do. Stunning comics.

Because then the reader already has the later volumes so may feel that it is worth paying for the higher tier to get everything rather than risk enjoying the first two and having to buy the middle ones for full price later.

Picked up loads of these, really great prices for some of the early collections (€0.79 for 100+ pages).

I had read some of them as a kid, mainly reprinted in the Aliens UK Magazine (published by Titan if I recall).

Something is really pissing me off though- they've just randomly switched out Newt and Hicks for "Billie" and "Wilks".

When Alien 3 was released, with its surprise callous offing of the characters in question, minor re-writes had to be done to scripts written post-Aliens that used Newt and Hicks. Presumably most of the art was already underway, so it wasn't really an option to just remove the marine/girl characters entirely.
Title: Re: Bargains/deals thread (?)
Post by: Theblazeuk on 15 May, 2017, 04:59:54 pm
Entirely!
Quote
Originally, the character of Billie was in fact Newt from Aliens; the early comics in which the character appeared were a direct continuation of that film's story, featuring Newt and Corporal Hicks continuing the fight against the Xenomorphs. However, following the release of Alien3 in 1992, in which Newt is killed on Fiorina 161, the character from the comics was renamed Billie so that the stories in which she features were still compatible with the film series. This change first appeared in the novel Aliens: Earth Hive, an adaptation of the comic series Aliens: Outbreak, while subsequent reprints of the comic books have also adopted the altered identity.

So it boils down to they cut Ripley out of the original story and had it just be 'Newt' and 'Hicks' on their own colony eerily like the events of Aliens.... Still bloody awesome comics.

It still makes little sense.
As far as I recall the characters were originally named Newt & Hicks in the comic sequels (when published 25-30 years ago), so Dark Horse renamed them retroactively after the plot for Alien 3 was known.
The 'continuation' series concludes with Female War, including Ripley as one of the main characters- even though she died in Alien 3.

Would have been better to stick with their original direction and present it as an 'alternative' story-line.

Can't see the images on that link for some reason. Not sure if the Kirby stuff is by him or comics using his characters. But I can always enjoy some Silver Star (and Captain Victory). I guess those are the only original Kirby comics I own. Actually, I do have a Kirby Superman (or is it Jimmy Olsen?) comic, sans front cover. That was possibly the first American comic I had. Ruined by the redrawn Superman faces that were plastered on Kirby's art. Not by me – by DC.

Didn't pick up on that at all, Blaze.
It'd also make little sense considering Ripleys 'psychic connection' to the Alien queen mother in the Female War story.
Trying so hard to tie everything in was poorly executed in general, really distracted me from enjoying those particular stories.
Some of the other collections have been great though- loved 'Harvest', had some stunning artwork by Kelly Jones too.

Thanks for the heads up! A real bargain! (The first four volumes for the same price as one, if I understand correctly. It'd be a good bargain for just one!)

It's a no brainer at any price but at those prices ...  You would have to be completely insane to pass them up.  Part of me wishes they had included the WW2 stuff as well but I can understand why they gave it a miss.

On the Bolland front, I'm sticking with my signed copy of Bolland Strips.  Nice price though.

Okay so there's a GMozz DC sale over at Comixology do I finally bite the bullet and get the Invisibles?

Whole series (I think - 7 collections?) for £28... I'd be daft not to right?

So now I've been distracted from any thoughts of GMozz's Invisibles by the fact that Humanoids have a 50% sale on Comixology.

Now this has got to be too good to pass up BUT so much to choice from. So any recommendations. I've got Incal, Metabarons and Bouncer already. Anythign else stand out ... or damnit will I have to do long hours of research... like I wouldn't love that!

Some one mentioned Savage Highway the other day?

I used to the sale to grab up issues of District 14 Season 1. Its very unique, though a bit hard to pin down in terms of story.

I also grabbed Retro World Book 2, because I read Book 1 a while back and enjoyed it.

I recall from the old DC/Humanoids partnership I really REALLY like Freddy Lombard and Miss: Betting Living Through Crime. Freddy is like a more mature/cynical Tintin, and Miss was just a really good 30s crime thriller.

And of course anything by Jodorowsky. Incal, Metabarons, Technopriests, etc...

Well, if anyone was on the fence about IDW Dredd and fancied dipping a toe, grab the current Humble Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/books/judge-dredd-comics). For $15, you get pretty much everything, from what I can tell, along with a smattering of Rebellion content. For $1, you still get the superb Mars Attacks vs Dredd, year One, Urban Warfare, Cry of the Werewolf, and Origins, along with two volumes of the Swierczynski-penned Dredd, one volume of Mega-City Zero, and the Funko one-shot.

(Notable also that the sole Case Files in the mix is vol. 5. Very smart choice.)

But the Casefile 05 is the whole cost of bundle (as lucky I didn't get that in first place!) But I never read any IDW before so nice treats for me!

Jez how much have I changed as a reader. Only a few years ago I'd have been all over that like a rash. These days I have so much stuff to read and I'm so disconnected to the big two that I could hardly find a thing to interest me. Don't get me wrong there is some great stuff there, some Nocenti Daredevil, Simonson Thor being highlights BUT it took until The Nam which I've always been tempted by to take the plunge...

Unusual selection. Usually, it's 'get in on the ground floor for cheap and then buy more', but here the books seem almost random. Jessica Jones vol 2. Doctor Strange vol 4. Old Man Logan vol. 6. Strange.

Heh: turns out, I had JJ#1 and DS#3 from some previous sale. ZING! I just wish these buggers would offer DRM-free, although Comixology is at least no longer a terrible reading experience for me (unlike Marvel Unlimited, which makes me physically ill).

Picked it up equally dirt cheap on a previous Amazon digital sale, but haven't gotten round to it yet.
Perhaps my only 'modern' Marvel purchase from the past few years- this former Marvel Zombie has regained sentience.

I look at something like this and whimsically imagine that it's nothing more than market research.
"Will we be able to sell road-kill like Secret Empire even at €0.99?" some 22 year old intern ponders.

Hard not to recommend the Walt Simonson Thor volumes at these prices.
I might give some of the 70's horror stuff a go- not familiar with it at all really.

Ive read some of Tomb of Dracula before, it’s great because Dracula is the protagonist, so it’s a villain POV comic which makes it a very cool read imo.

I took the plunge and went for the 2 Simonson Thor volumes, Doctor Aphra (for the Kev Walker art) and the Dracula one. Should be OK for under £3. Anything else worth a look? I have Vision already.

That Master of the Kung-Fu Epic collection came out this week, and appears to be the complete series. I hear it’s real good. I bought.

Looks like the overall sale is now over, only a very small handful of recent releases are now on sale. Dang, I was waffling on picking up the Steranko Nick Fury collections, guess I missed my chance.

I'm not sure it's a company-wide thing but the Middlesbrough branch of Forbidden Planet is having an absolutely massive clear out of trades and GN's to make way for...  Frakking Funko Pops (as if they don't dominate the store already).

In the last four weeks I've picked up over twenty books all for around a fiver (including nine volumes of B.P.R.D Hell on Earth).

Was dropping off a bunch of crap to the Oxfam shop in Victoria Road and noticed they had a complete run of Crisis in the comic box. Took a lot of willpower not to start flicking through for the issues I'm missing.

How much were they?

I need to pick these up at some stage.

Fans of Zenith should probably get over to 2000 AD's store pretty damn sharpish, if they fancy getting the entire run in hardback for under 40 quid.
