: Future Judge Dredd Video Game?
: IAMTHESYSTEM 29 October, 2017, 01:58:38 PM
Here's a skit on the belief that Judge Dredd should be a Video Game rather than a TV series.

Why not both?

I often ask myself why Rebellion won't spend a hundred million of their own money gambling on a more crowded and risky games market than ever and instead opt to co-produce a tv show that would raise their profile and expand their business into other media.  It's a real conundrum.

That's a pretty bad article.  The writer couldn't have done even the slightest bit of research, relying instead on half-remembered fragments of comics he read a decade or more ago.

Apparently when it comes to Rebellion developing games from the 2000AD IP they own:
have no previous experience in creating such content
...apart from the Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper games *ahem*.

The author also thinks that producing the entire city is infeasible, but that as it's naturally split in to four parts (the compass points) then a quarter of the city would be easier, with the rest to be developed later.  Setting aside that the city has a Central region in addition to the compass points, plus the NW Hab Zone, a quarter of the Mega-City would still take a lifetime to develop to a playable degree.  No mention is made of sectors, which is a more manageable MMORPG size, or blocks for a smaller game.  The best fit for a sandbox game would be the afore-mentioned NW Hab Zone (Sectors 301-305, depending on era) or the Pit (301 alone), as it also has a game border edge in the form of the radzone surrounding it.

You could also just block off the rest of the city with non-interactive elements that fits the context, like huge traffic jams and construction work. If the game took place in Mega-City One, I would probably use the Grand Hall of Justice as some kind of hub area.

Whole suggestion doesnt feel as Judge Dredd game as much as a frankensteinian monstrosity made from pieces of other games.
Personally,I think an MMORPG would be terrible idea.

Did anyone else think that Fallout 3 was as close as we are likely to ever see to a Cursed Earth game? Shame it had no dinosaurs in though.

Rebellion all ready answered the question.

Rebellion to open licensing for 2000 AD, including Dredd (https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/02/13/rebellion-2000ad-dredd-licenses/)

Deathclaws are sort of like dinosaurs, but if you have Fallout New Vegas on PC, you can install the Judge Uniform and Lawgiver Mk2 mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/62044/?).  I plan on doing a Dredd playthrough of New California when it drops in the next couple of months.

Do you know the reason for their previously reluctance to licensing?

An action role-playing game is the right way to go.
