There was a protest of some sort outside my local Tesco last night.  I thought it might be about Tesco using forced labor in the UK through workfare, or their buying seafood harvested by slaves in Thailand, but what really got people motivated to be political was that Tesco bought eggs laid by chickens that weren't kept in big enough cages.

You'd be singing a different song if it was DOGS Tesco were keeping in small cages. You wouldn't buy an egg laid by a dog.

If the stated purpose of a book is to reprint all the annual and special stories in order of publication, it has to reproduce all the stories in order, irrespective of whether they've been reprinted elsewhere.

sci-fi fans overestimate B5's importance, as TNG - and later DS9 (whose success was likely what kept B5 on the air) - were more responsible for bringing arc plotting to syndicated shows because they were part of a successful franchise and not a cult show largely kept alive by a fawning sci-fi press.  Far more likely that the rise in arc plotting had more to do with the expansion of channels and number of tv networks in the US at the time.  The old model of syndication was largely redundant and the "episodic" format of most tv shows - not just sci-fi - was a casualty of a more competitive market that couldn't afford to let audiences think they could just drop in and out of viewing a show anymore

Yes, it was part of a more general trend which started with Twin Peaks:

The gag of the Wagner strip - the dog refusing to say "woof" then making an involuntary WOOF! noise as it's set on fire - doesn't need any setting up to be hilarious.

That's quite brilliant. I wonder how many people will actually get *how* brilliant.

Well the audience laughed in all the right places.

The introduction describes Wagner as "famously terse", but the dynamic of the joke - the contrast between the prolix Moore and the economy of Wagner - is easily appreciated with no prior knowledge.

In what order should I actually read them?  Cover-to-cover as they came out?

I would say so. That way you get an impression of the history of the comic as well as the development of the strips themselves.

Throwing in annuals and specials sounds like a great way of adding a bit of variety, but I'm not sure the complicated business of coordinating the Megazine's erratic publishing schedule with the prog is worth the bother. There are 2 or 3 epics where the Dredd strips in both comics hook up, but for the rest of the 25 years they're just 2 comics from the same publisher.

Continuing with this later...

Please don't. You've already been warned by a moderator to stop derailing the conversation with this boring argument. What you're talking about has nothing to do with the film - which you haven't seen. You (and anyone else who wants to discuss feminism) are free to raise the topic on the politics thread.

The main difference seems to be biting the heads off chickens. Touching that so many computer nerds look up the definition of nerd

Just to be clear - it's a business run by Chris Weston's wife, which he promoted on social media. The lovely Mrs Weston models some rum 'n' raisin (as well as possible examples of Weston typography and screen printing)

It looks delicious. No online presence, so you have to visit Eastbourne to buy direct

Always wanted to own some Chris Weston art but can't afford the asking price? Why not offer Chris the financial support necessary to keep covering every square inch of the page in impossibly fine detail by patronising the other half of the Weston family food/art conglomerate, and purchase some Weston's Yummy Fudge? No need to worry about E Coli or Staphylococcus:

QuoteWeston's Yummy Fudge was last inspected on 9th February 2015 and was given a food hygiene rating of 5 out of 5 by a food safety officer representing Eastbourne's hygiene authority.

To get the top rating of '5', the business is considered to have very good hygiene, and excels in the following three areas:

- How hygienically the food is handled
- The condition of the structure of the buildings
- How the business manages what it does to make sure food is safe, and standards will be kept high.

The judgement on confidence in management (such as willingness to act on advice, enforcement of practices, attitude towards hygiene and safety etc) of Weston's Yummy Fudge is ranked Good.

Quote from: blackmocco on 17 May, 2015, 01:59:54 AMThere are people still trying to make it work, continuity wise. Haha! Good luck with that.

It's the same as the 'Dollars Trilogy': apart from similar thematics, it's not a story trilogy, and it's never been a problem.

GoodBad'n'Ugly, Fistful, Few Dollars More.

I look forward to your chronology of the Carry On dodecahedrilogy, including an explanation of why the characters keep changing jobs and travelling in time.

Unlikely to ever happen, but it'd be flippin' hilarious if it did.

This is basically what's behind the idea of creating The Northern Powerhouse and devolving power to the regions.  Anywhere that doesn't vote Tory gets their own regional government to blame for everything.

Surely the real scandal is that Muse are ripping off their own old records

Although (like almost everything Marilyn Manson recorded in the nineties) those Muse songs are really just digitally distorted and compressed variations upon this:
