Film & TV / The 13th Doctor
« on: 02 March, 2017, 01:25:30 pm »
Perhaps we don't really care that much anymore, but as every tabloid newspaper / news feed will remind you- there's currently a leading role vacancy in Dr. Who.

Any predictions or favorites in mind?

I'll miss the superb Capaldi, but wouldn't mind seeing Julian Rhind-Tutt or Richard Ayoade take the keys to the TARDIS.

Announcements / Jock Signing and Q&A in Dublin
« on: 26 August, 2016, 07:52:45 pm »
Irish eyes are certainly smiling this evening; Jock will be signing his incredible looking new book 'The Art of Jock' in Big Bang Comics, Dublin, on September 28th.

I've also heard that there will be an exclusive Judge Death book-plate with every copy purchased, only available at the signing.

News / New 'Scream' collection by Hibernia
« on: 02 August, 2016, 11:54:55 am »
I only sporadically pick up SFX magazine, but did so this month.
There was a nice feature on 80's classic Scream, which also revealed that Hibernia have a new collection in the works- including never before published stories and cover recreations for unpublished issues.

This is pretty exciting news!
David- what more can you tell us?

The prints are past Prog covers by Jock & Lee Garbett respectively, signed by both. Sorry I don't have pics.

€15 each or €25 for the pair.

Help! / Help Jock find his 2000AD / Meg covers
« on: 03 February, 2016, 09:47:58 am »
Hi All,

I received an unusual email from my LCS owner this week; do I have any 2000AD artwork by Jock?
Seems Jock is looking to scan some of his previous 2000AD work, in particular his 2000AD / Judge Dredd Megazine painted covers, and has put the request out there to original art collectors.

Unfortunately (for me) I didn't have any of the pieces he was looking for, so I suggested using this forum to help with the search, and with the man's blessing have started this thread.

If you have a piece, Jock is a member of the forum and can be contacted via PM.

Spread the word.

Books & Comics / Cinema Purgatorio by Moore, O'Neill & Friends
« on: 02 February, 2016, 04:56:34 pm »
Caught this on Bleeding Colon a few minutes ago; http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/02/02/alan-moore-on-his-new-comic-with-kevin-oneills-cinema-purgatorio-including-kieron-gillen-max-brooks-garth-ennis-christos-gage-and-more/

Reading the blurb by Moore instantly caught my attention- this is the kind of comic I know that I want.

Only the second time in my life I've pledged to Kickstarter, but just couldn't resist this.

News / Godmachine Prints

I'm sure most of you have seen this already; http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/01/05/godmachines-2000-ad-dark-judges-diptych-and-nemesis-the-warlock-available-as-prints-from-vice-press/

I'm very impressed by the Nemesis piece- great O'Neill vibe.

Assuming it will be announced tomorrow, any speculation on a release date?

Off Topic / Loot Crate?

Any UK / ROI forumites subscribed to this?
I've been tempted a few times before, but have held back.

I'd be interested to find out if the tax adds much to the overall cost.

Off Topic / Seldom seen Thrills
« on: 16 February, 2015, 02:35:29 pm »
Couldn't find an appropriate thread, so I'll start this one.
I'm always interested in the 'seldom seen' 2000AD material (Fleetway / QC covers, magazine articles, illustrations etc).
Might be good to have a home for these oddities.

Lew Stringer has a new article on Fanzine covers on his blog, with some brilliant rarely seen (never in my case) covers by Bolland, Talbot, McMahon & O'Neill; http://lewstringer.blogspot.com

Events / D.I.C.E. 2014
« on: 19 June, 2014, 01:17:53 pm »
Time to get the ball rolling on this years Dublin International Comics Expo, taking place this September 27th & 28th.

No 'big names' this year like Snyder & Capullo, but still several creators that merit my interest, such as;

Kieron Gillen
Stephen Mooney
Becky Cloonen
Declan Shalvey

A strong 2000AD presence as previously, and I've been reliably informed that Molch-R will have an official 2000AD stand this year too.

Droids confirmed so far;
Clint Langley
Mike Carroll
Simon Parr
Si Spurrier
PJ Holden
John McCrea
Mike Molcher

Looking forward to it immensely, I've really enjoyed the last two.

Off Topic / Y'know what really grinds my gears?
« on: 12 April, 2014, 01:47:44 pm »
Did the forum ever have a 'Room 101' style thread?

Anyway, y'know what really grinds my gears?

F-ckin movie adverts that name the release date numerically.

Example; "The Raid 2. In cinemas April 10".
When's April 10? Anytime near April 10th?

Sorry. No coffee yet.

Film & TV / True Detective
« on: 01 March, 2014, 10:21:46 pm »
Anyone else watching this?
Wasn't quite sure about the first episode, so I thought I'd give it two before passing comment. Problem is, I'm still unsure about it.
Well shot, good lead actors (as expected), compelling (if a little Hannibal-ish) plot.

I just...don't actually know if I like it or not.
Only 8 episodes in total (each season is planned to have a different story / cast) so it won't be a huge commitment either way.

Anyway, my guess after 5 minutes was that Woody was the killer. Too obvious?

Classifieds / Help a brother get some Garth Brooks tickets!
« on: 31 January, 2014, 12:20:40 am »
One for my fellow Republicans:
I was tasked with purchasing Garth Brooks tickets for my lovely missus and her sisters this morning, and like many others, faced the most frustrating two hour trudge of my life; staring at an unmoving and unforgiving Ticketmaster loading screen.
I reported my failure at 11.15am, and suffice to say, she hasn't taken it well (she hasn't spoken to me all day!).

She's obviously a huge fan (I'm not- I couldn't name more than two songs the guy ever sang, and am a bit taken aback by what I can only call a frenzy to get tickets for these gigs).
If any Irish boarders out there have 2 - 5 tics for sale, I'd really appreciate you helping out a fellow boarder.
Prices on some ticket websites are ranging from €300 to €800!
Don't be cruel (hey, that was Elvis wasn't it)?

Seriously though, this is a genuine request.
