General / Bill Savage Not A Cockney Shocker!
31 May, 2004, 11:51:02 PM
Yes, last weeks revelation that Bill Savage comes from Shooters Hill in Eltham can only mean that he's not a True Cockney!

True Cockneys are born within the sound of Bow Legs (as is my understanding).

My mum comes from Shooters Hill, apparently.

Bone Machine, bit late reading his prog this week

Yes, it's true - episode two of 'The Dalek's Master Plan' has been found.

And there was much rejoicing in the Doctor Who community.

I mentioned this the other day but you might have missed it - there is an error in Cam Kennedy's Droid profile.

He's credited with the art on 'The Man Who Knew Too Much' from prog 438-439, unless he was having a radically change in style and working under a false name this was drawn by Carlos Ezquerra.

Git it sorted, awlright?

I have read 2000AD continuously for nearly twenty years but this week's 2000AD (1311) has betrayed me. It is very sad that a comic I have loved with all my heart has started some crusade to insult and ridicule me. Yeah, you may say it's just a joke. Well I found Simon Spurrier's 'Nestel' comment in this week's Scrap deeply offensive.

If people don't like me, fair enough. But to put one's prejudice and hatred into the comic itself, is unforgivable. Simon's use of my surname was meant as a blatant insult.

Why do paid writers need to resort to such childish insults?

If Simon or Gordon have some problem with me, act like sensible human beings and email me.  Don't display your petty insecurities and rants inside the pages of 2k like cowards. I think it is pathetic. I also think it is pathetic of Matt Smith to sanction this type of behaviour and let it see print.

I can longer read a comic that shows such contempt for one its readers. I have therefore stopped collecting and reading 2000AD.

Thank you Rebellion, Matt Smith, Gordon Rennie and Simon Spurrier for destroying the magic that was 2000AD. I hope one day you can look in the mirror and be proud of yourselves for your cowardly, infantile and insulting behaviour.

Scott.

Suggestions / A scojo idea for Strontium Dog
23 September, 2002, 02:48:41 AM
Hi scojo here. Shooshi sends her love. xxxxxxx Matt respect your cats.:)

I have this cool idea folks.

We have had the summer of retro thrills: Stront, Vcs and Rogue, and most people seem to be happy with them.  But how about this....

Instead of more Strontium Dog, have the son of Stront. No I'm serious.

Imagine Johnny once had nookie with a female norm and she gave birth to a mutant son.  Maybe Johnny never knew about it. Maybe he did. Anyway you could have a new series with the younger Johnny junior.  He doesn't have to be called Johnny of course.

It could be Stontium Dog; the next generation. Maybe he could be called Rom Alpha or something.  He would have different mutant powers to that of his father.  It would be a new saga chronicling his fight against human prejudice, and becoming a new type of search destroy agent.  I think this could really work.

Any thoughts people?

General / Let's face it folks, comics are crap!
17 June, 2002, 01:59:11 AM
Hmm been thinking...

I think I've outgrown comics. I read a bit of The Filth, some Grant Morrison thing. Thought it was awful. Well not awful but just self indulgent twoddle. Good luck to the guy, he pays the mortgage writing this stuff but I dunno....

Now we have Carey doing Carver Hale and 13. I like 13 more but I think the dialogue is pretty awful.

Tor Cyan:
John Tomlinson couldn't write a decent story if his life depended on it. Sorry mate but it seems that way.

Have you read this week's? Talk about a mess. Thank god 2k got rid of Tor Cyan. He had a great opportunity to reinvent Rogue and he screwed it up. Says it all really.

Anyway my main point is this - I think comics dumb down too much. This thought kind of came to me out of the blue. Deep down most comics are kinda crap. Just a bit of swearing and the odd fight. Nothing really intelligent.

Apart from 2k at its best, the only other comic i ever really loved was the Dark Knight Returns.

Serious and cinematic too. Like a summer blockbuster film aimed at adults.

People go on about Alan Moore. I read Watchman which was good but I thought the end was poor. I'm sure he's good but deep down who would want to write for comics?

I think I'd rather write a novel or a great screenplay.

I only really buy 2k out of loyalty. But I dunno it just seems all a bit childish these days.

I can't really explain. I need something more challenging than comics. I need to read a good book.

Or maybe a good book in comic form.

As I say, I just feel comics dumb down to much. I'm not expecting something deep but I dunno...there just seems to be this tired formula to comics these days. It's all gone a bit stale.

What's the best comic (apart from 2k) you have read in recent years?

I wanna see if I'm wrong. If someone can suggest a great comic, I wanna read it and still believe in the medium. Cos right now I'm bored of it.

Off Topic / Fave songs.
16 June, 2002, 06:13:26 PM
Just thought I'd go off topic for a change.
After all there's only so much I can say about my scripts.

Ahem, anyway..

Does anyone remember a great pop tune in the 1980's by the group The Blow Monkeys?

The song was called Digging Your Scene.

One of my all time faves is that. An amazing pop song. Great use of saxaphone.

Yep, I'm leaving the board. For real this time.

Why?

Well Jason Kingsley finally told me he won't be considering my scripts. After 6 months of emailing him, he tells me!

You see I sent my script to him on the understanding he consider it. He never said "no we do not consider unsolicited material."

Shame he didn't tell me that in November 2001. I wouldn't have written both scripts!

Just don't like being misled, that's all.

Screenwriting is hard enough without people wasting your time...

Oh well, that's life. Anyway, I've asked Wake to remove them from the site.

If anyone wants to read them, I will gladly email you a copy.

So farewell munchkins, I'm outta here.

It's been fun but when you feel like you've been misled all this time, you don't wanna hang around anymore.

I hope the new films are good. I hope 2k continues to go from strength to strength.

Take care one and all.
