Film & TV / 007: No time to die
« on: 04 December, 2019, 11:25:17 pm »
So the title comes from a James Bond film title generator and they seem to be saddled with making this a sequel to one of, if not, the poorest Craig Bonds.

But it does look smart and sexy with a great cast and some stupid stunts (which you gotta assume they did for reals). And top marks for the final image referencing the gun barrel that opens Bond movies.

Prog / Best reader for a Windows X laptop?
« on: 26 January, 2019, 01:13:29 pm »
I've ended up with a Windows X laptop and, as my faithful, old Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is grinding slower and slower these days, I thought I'd see if I could read comics on the new laptop.

However the 2000ad app for the laptop, seems to be, in effect, just the ability to buy the comics and doesn't seem to have a reader. It only seems to download in PDF format which then I can only seem to load and read in browsers like Chrome.  Which don't seem to have the ability to "flip" pages.

So what's the best reader for a Windows laptop that will read pdf? Or is there a way to get them in CBZ format (or other) and pay a couple of quid for a reader> And if so, any recommendations?

Film & TV / Aquaman (or, more importantly, a glistening Jason Momoa)
« on: 09 October, 2018, 10:14:55 pm »
Can't find a thread about this but, considering how many people said they would pay to see a Momoa Aquaman movie after the averageness of Justice League, here is an extended spoilers trailer:

https://youtu.be/0KRQ9zXujwY

Momoa never quite manages to deliver anything that matches his charisma but that shot of the sub being lifted into the sunlight is why we have superhero movies.

Creative Common / Any creative designer types able to do me a quick favour?
« on: 06 February, 2018, 09:08:44 pm »
I'd like to show my local Drama Group that posters don't need to be created in multi-coloured clipart and text boxes! Sadly, I have the design flair of a colour blind hedgehog in a bag.

Ultimately, my goal is to get a thing going with the local School so that their art and design students can work with us. They get design experience and pieces for their folio and we get good posters! (Win-win! I believe this sort of collaboration with local groups is part of the Curriculum for Excellence).

But before I try get this organised, I was hoping one of you clever lot might take on of our exiting posters and make it look lovely by way of example. I won't use the work as anything other than an example.

Payment: A six pack of decent beer? I'll either get you at a Con or get it delivered to you.

Anybody willing and able to help?

Down Ayrshire way this Saturday with Tom Grant, Al Ewing, Tom Foster and other comic artist and writing guests in attendance. Also plenty of comic and superhero themed toy and craft stalls (and my wee brother's custom Nerf stall - the Monkeytron Collective) so ideal chance to get some Christmas presents.

Film & TV / LOST HIGHWAY or MULHOLLAND DRIVE
« on: 13 April, 2017, 12:13:21 pm »
I've a chance to catch up with some of the Lynch I have missed at the GFT this month... but probably only manage the one movie.

So which should it be?

LOST HIGHWAY or MULHOLLAND DRIVE?

(I've seen all the other ones they are showing - except for TWIN PEAKS: THE MISSING BITS but I can't recall enough about TWIN PEAKS to make that a worthwhile investment of my time).

Events / Frank Quitely Exhibition at Kelvingrove - April to October 2017
« on: 10 January, 2017, 07:39:27 pm »

So this looks like a great excuse for another aborted attempt at a get together.

Let's start by noting who is interested in coming along and then we can work out a date. We have a six month window for this so should be able to manage one or two dates that mean different gangs can turn up.

My thoughts for the sort of day would be:
1100 - Meet at Gallery for a coffee
1115 to 1215 - wander round exhibition
1215 to 1230 - gift shop
1230 to 1400 - the 78 for lunch and beer
1400 until going home time - a West end pub crawl.

Or something like that but better.

So who is in?

Creative Common / Influences?
« on: 14 October, 2016, 06:41:51 pm »
Have we got a thread that talks about different artists influencesInfluences?

I've just been to an Alphonse Mucha exhibition at Kelvingrove and, probably just in my head,  all the way through I kept thinking "Frazer Irving".

Film & TV / DUNE
« on: 20 November, 2015, 06:34:41 pm »
I'm rereading this at the moment.

And because (take away my geek card) I think books are more valid when you make a cool film or tv show out of them, I'm wondering what to pick up.

I have a soft spot for the Lynch version despite its many flaws. Is there a good bluray with juicy extras and deleted scenes?

And what about the TV mini-series?

Plus how cool is it to say MUAD'DIB.

Go on, try it on for size.

Anybody else going?

It'll be my first day back off the wagon.

So this looks like about as good a match as you could get.
