Film Discussion / Any Update on Mega City One

It's been a while now but there have been no new updates to the TV series in recent months and its 2018 now. I emailed them at the Mega City one website but had no response. Has anyone else heard anything with regards to the above?

It would be nice to hear something positive, the silence is worrying.

Suggestions / Dredd compared to The Punisher on Netflix
« on: 09 January, 2018, 03:05:00 pm »
Ive just been watching The Punisher on Netflix and I think that this character compares a lot with Dredd. For example:

1) He's deadpan and emotionless.
2) He wants justice.
3) He's brutal in dispatching justice.
4) He's remorseless
5) He's single minded
6) As a character he's humourless.
7) He kills without hesitating.
8) He avoids relationships

Now I found the way the current actor playing The Punisher was similar to the way that Karl Urban played Dredd, although the way they differ is that there is a slight madness to The Punisher character that is not there in Dredd.

The point I an trying to make is that when I watch a film or a box set I like to identify or relate to either the lead character or someone in the show, but I can't seem to do that with the Punisher. I loved the comic and was looking forward to the Netflix depiction, which, because of the way the Character is so one-dimensional, I am finding really boring. he's brooding, doesn't say much and doesn't let you get inside his head.

Now I really loved the Dredd film but by comparing these two characters I am worried that a Dredd series could become boring very quickly if the lead character (Dredd) follows the above 7 characteristics, without developing, growing, showing vulnerabilities or developing relationships which can be exploited.

In my opinion a character that follows the 7 characteristics mentioned cannot be loved by the public. Now a character like Dredd is not meant to be loved like a partner, friend or parent but he can be loved as a character, if you make him vulnerable and open him up. Also, I think Dredd needs more dialogue than he had in the film or has in the comic if he is to have any longevity. The Punisher has very little dialogue in the show and this is making him a very boring character.

In short, what worked in the short film and still works in the comic won't work in a TV series, if you want the general public to get on board that is.

News / Re: The Dark Judges in NEW SCIENTIST- This week
« on: 04 January, 2018, 05:05:42 pm »
If you guys are enjoying the science part of New Scientist and not just The Dark Judges, who were great by the way, then I highly recommend BBCs Focus magazine. It’s an easier read than New Scientist, as it’s more for the Layman and has some really interesting bite size articles. It’s also cheaper 😀 which brings me on to my question, what the hell were the Dark Judges doing in NS? There doesn’t seem to be any reference to it being an advert or any relevance to that edition. As much as I enjoyed it, and bought NS just because of the DJ’s I am confused as to their appearance. Please enlighten me 😀

Announcements / Prog 2 stickers
« on: 30 September, 2017, 09:35:56 pm »
Just seen this on eBay, the biotronic stickers have just sold for over £400.
Item number 332389134882
They might be worth more than the actual comic?

General / Who wants a free 2000AD collection
« on: 17 August, 2017, 01:45:33 pm »
Sounds too good to be true, well it's not. I've been buying and selling small collections for a long time in order to get a near mint run of 2000AD and I now have my perfect collection 🙂

As a by-product I have over 1,000 progs ready to be picked up and I mean picked up as I do not plan on posting this lot. 6 big boxes. They are all in pretty ok condition and run from early hundreds up until around prog 1,250.

I'm in Southgate, North London, so if anyone is interested in a genuine give away please get in touch ASAP otherwise I'm giving them to a charity shop. You have 3 days to decide, the clock ticking 🙂

NB please don't contact me asking for individual prongs or a list of what I have, I'm giving them away to save hassle, cheers my dears.

News / Re: Netflix buys Millarworld
« on: 10 August, 2017, 01:48:41 pm »
I want it to happen, in fact if I win the Euromillions I'm going to make a Rebellion an offer they can't refuse and then sell 2000AD to Netflix for a penny, just so that make a Nikolai Dante TV series, or ABC Warriors.

Who's up for Rebellion selling 2000AD to Netflix, the potential for films, TV series and animated shows would be limitless.

Go on Rebellion, sell 😀

Suggestions / Re: First episode of Dredd TV series
« on: 30 July, 2017, 08:07:49 am »
DJs is a terrible idea.

I would go with a couple of Rookie Judges on the streets being assessed by a senior Judge, possibly Dredd. it would be a good introduction as we see MC1 through their eyes as well as establishing Dredd as an iconic Judge & introducing the concept of Judges to the audience.

Rookie Judge being assessed by Dredd? Hasn't that already been done somewhere? I don't know, it seems to ring a bell 😜

Based on what could happen now (so no hypothetical new Nemesis, Dante etc series) and is plausible (no Halo Jones Book Four),

There's no reason why Dante's character can't be reprised at some point in the future, as was proven by the recent special.
