General / Has Judge Dredd been soft Retconned?
« on: 08 January, 2017, 09:12:02 PM »
Fellow Dredd heads following on from my previous posts and the weather of Dredd knowledged shared with me I have come to ponder this question;

Given Dredd now being late in his 70s' but receiving a recent top and tail rejuv is Rebelion now quietly letting the old arthritic and slow Joe Dredd slip into quiet obscurity and let this 25 year backstory starting with the death of Judge Morphy and a "Letter to Judge Dredd",  Democaracy etc all be for nothing. I mean seriously how long could they clog this horse without the storing him. Obviously this would never do for Rebellion Dredd book sales, so the easier option to let it go.

Those more learned than me in Dredd lore have a handle on this. I would appreciate your thoughts

It should be released next month. I have ordered two as it is apparent they are in high demand.

I think when Trout said you should read more Dredd comics he should've clarified something about the IDW ones.
With those, you should only read the ones done by the known Dredd creative teams, otherwise you may not be rewarded at all.
By the way, welcome to the friendliest place on the web.........most of the time  :lol:

Thank you man. By the way I like your podcasts on YouTube. Some good stuff. You should do more figure reviews. Have you checked out the forthcoming Xensation Stallone Dredd?

First off I am not a minutia geek wanting to know what Dreddies navel looks like, but I don't see what's wrong in trying to make sense of all the retcon that the strip has gone through. I for one look at the early Dredds as something written for children, but as we kids of the 70's grew so did Dredd. Out went the more ridiculous  childish element and in came more worldly and adult themes. Is It too much to establish, as best as possible given 40 years of history, some sort of canon. Whether it be Lawgiver Mk1 & Mk2 capability, Dredds arthritis, how old he physically is because we of rejuv or that Walter the Wobot got permanently turned into a new range of Jistice approved sex toys! Feck sake I don't want to go down the shite route of American super hero comics nd keep resetting everything ad nauseam.
In retort and  To finish I don't really appreciate being accused of being too involved in this character and his history. This is a Feckin Dredd forum for the love of Grud. What are we here for If not to at least partly discuss all these contradictions and other interesting tip bits. End of transmission

Is there a definitive canon answer to the actual ammo capacity of the MK one and MK Two Lawgiver?

After reading some excellent discourse from the forum I am more or less convinced that the Old Man Dredd arc is going to change me to nothing unless Mr Wagner comes back for one more Mega epic with the ultimate stakes/sacrifice for Ole Stony Face

Further to new my told that he has. Ever has had a rejuv before, it clearly shows after Necropolisthat he did. That is a fact. Moving on from that I am more curious if this means they are binning the Dredd is old and will not be around forever backstory and attempt to attempt a soft recon

I know of only one other rejuvenate and that was to repair the damage done to him after necropolis, wasn't there also some mention of drugs taken by all Judges accept PSI to help keep them functional as they got older? I still believe they are copping out on Dreddie getting really old and not being able to carry on

Fellow Dredd heads, I was pondering the recent rejuv ole Dreddie has just had. Do any of think this will drop kick any further talk within continuity of his slowing down,  it being as quick etc and put paid to any potential retirement/death as his body now alledgedly younger and fitter. I believe it is a bit of a cop out as this has been such a big part of Dredds story line for the last 20 plus years starting with the Murphs death and then one of episode of him being in the bath at his Rowdy Yates appt and his internal monologue mentioning all his aches and pains. I would really like to start an in depth discussion around this recent move on the part of Rebellion
