Not really a swipe, but a couple of the internal balcony scenes in Dredd (2012) remind me of this panel from Harry on the High Rock.

'Penguin Random House will adapt five 2000 AD graphic novels into full-cast audiobooks, with original soundtracks and sound design, alongside audio versions of Rebellion’s prose fiction.'
 - Hollywood Reporter

'Richard Lennon, Audio Publisher at Penguin Random House, said:“This is a really exciting new partnership which helps us reach even more listeners in this hugely popular and ever-growing section of the audiobook market. We’re looking forward to helping tell some of Rebellion’s incredible stories and to creating some truly groundbreaking recordings, particularly as we explore turning some of British comic book history’s true greats – Judge Dredd, Slaine and Rogue Trooper, to name but a few – into audiobooks for the first time.”'

Nice.  Especially as I thought this thread was going to be another weird merchandise line.  (Candles, barmats, cushions, wallpaper... please, please Tharg - can I just have a Rogue Trooper action figure?)

And the collected version comes out in November:

Judge Dredd - False Witness - Paperback, 96 pages, 17th November 2020

Justice Academy drop-out Mathias Lincoln always survived by sub-legal means, but after uncovering a vast conspiracy, he finds himself pursued by legendary lawman Judge Dredd!

Get ready for a street level look at justice in Mega-City One as one person fights to expose the darkest secrets of the rich and powerful in a thrilling mystery set against a backdrop of media manipulation and social unrest.

While on a job for a rich client, Justice Academy drop-out and professional fixer Mathias Lincoln makes a horrific discovery -- children are disappearing, and the conspiracy stretches from the wastes of the Cursed Earth all the way to the halls of power in Mega-City One.

Things get even worse for Mathias when he's framed for the brutal murder of a controversial media personality whose bombastic rhetoric had made him one of the most powerful--and feared--voices in the city. Now the most wanted man in the Big Meg, Mathias has to fight to clear his name and expose those responsible for taking the Cursed Earth children before he gets a death sentence from Mega-City One's zero-tolerance lawman -- JUDGE DREDD.

Written by Eisner-nominated, Glyph Award-winning writer of comics and TV Brandon Easton (Star Trek: Year Five, Transformers, Agent Carter) with superstar artist Kei Zama (Death's Head, Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye) making her Judge Dredd debut!

I just found prog 1965, with its unique take on the logo:

Ha!  'Zero' also because of the playing around with the 000 in the logo.

General / Re: Dredd Case File recommendations

Thanks everyone, those are all good suggestions.  I don't think having art by McMahon or Bolland is a deal-breaker, as long as the stories are more off-the-wall.  Of course, that means missing the brilliance of The Pit, Day of Chaos, etc etc etc, but each to their own.

General / Dredd Case File recommendations
« on: 19 February, 2020, 10:41:19 AM »
I've been asked to recommend some of the JD Case Files to someone.  He's after the crazy and inventive stuff; he liked the Cursed Earth saga but not the Apocalypse War.  He also likes the art of Bolland and McMahon, but is not (yet) taken with Ezquerra.

My first thought is CF4, which has the Judge Child saga in it, plus Otto Sump, Capt Skank and also the first appearance of Chopper.

Other than that, I'm stuck.  I need to get out the Case Files to remember what stories are in what volumes, and whether they fit the bill.  Time has been in short supply recently and I know once I get to it I'll just get sidetracked re-reading loads of stories.

Any recommendations, oh great and sagacious hivemind?

I did wonder if it might have been a weird GI thing. I mean, if you designed a perfect killing machine, would you bother giving him a pair?

He's got to hang those two grenades on something.

Venus's designers were men. She's got.

Sounds believable.

From memory one of the Rogue Trooper novels mentions that after the GIs are smoke, the dolls get assigned to, er, comfort duty for the top brass.

I'm amazed everyone is still asking this question about Rogue and no one has turned it round to Venus Bluegenes.

Reading the description for the middle story, "The Big Steal", I reckon the wife's the culprit behind it all.
