I am also a big fan of the SSR and remember them well especially loving all his gadgets and cars. The one that sticks in the mind most was 'SSR for President' with his force field to protect from assassins and of course, the lovely Angelina (beautifully drawn by Ezquerra). The James Coburn look made him the perfect sci-fi James Bond.
I still think they read well but wouldnt really fit in with the rest of 2000AD nowadays as the content has moved on a bit but for a nostaglia hit they are perfect.

I attended the panel discussion on tuesday and while I wasnt able to take notes, it was well worth attending.

Just read it and thanks to your post could kind of guess what was going to happen, still a surprise though!
Agreed with the above poster, Kirkland is very maverick with his characters, especially now there are hardly any left!

Film & TV / Re: "Y: The Last Man" Film

As I have just read the last graphic novel, some of the above posts ring true regarding the filler in the middle but would some of the stuff in the last book mean so much if you hadnt gone through 50+ issues beforehand, I think not. (Mind you Im glad I didnt spend the cash on the individual issues!)
I'd like to see some newbie play Yorick as he basically is an everyman weed not some American square jaw.
Cant see interest being sustained over 3 films though...good luck Warners.

Lobster Random I can take or leave but have really been confused about the Red Seas.
I really dont know why this is so popular, to me its too much of a mish mash with a 'Pirates' bandwagon, cyborg dogs and mega aliens. I'd love someone to explain to me what I'm missing! Maybe I'm just getting old! Steve Yeowell lazy art doesnt help expecially after comparing it to some of his early Zenith stuff the other day.

Film & TV / Re: Just saw the Dredd movie for the first time...

I was lucky enough to be an extra on the movie and had a chance to walk around the set while we were waiting for filming to commence. The set was fantastic and it was great to be part of the movie of a comic strip I enjoyed so much. I was in mainly crowd scenes when Dredd is being persued on the flying bike and saw the stunt when the SJS judge flys into the shop window. There was one thing that struck me was that it must have been the equivalent of city bottom as there was a lack of walkways (even missing in post production) and the sense of scale of the citiblocks was a bit diminshed. I must admit to being a bit disappointed after making an effort to go and see it in Leicester Square on one of the big screens but some parts were damn good (especially the last shot of Dredd on the bike with MC1 behind him).
What I'd love to know is what made the Angel Gang turn to Grud? that was a bizarre change!

Fantastic looking book. A lot of work must have gone into it but I repeat the earlier question re costs to bind, send to the binders, postage etc. I guess it must have been worth it when it was received though!

Around 10 years ago I bought 3 pages of Ron Smiths work on JD 'Rabib' and a Carlos Equerra Apocalypse war page. I got them from a website called AAaargh cos the Rabib story was the first JD story I read plus the Carlos page was excellent (emergency stop while Dredd and the gang are escaping from the Strato V's) Glad they may have been a sound investment!
