Not quite the same one as before, much better, with input from John Wagner, Cam Kennedy and Colin MacNeil. Good article, just a small mention of the film on the side.

OMG, surely this is child abuse...

Anyone ever read this (by accident or otherwise?) I'm shocked. I never realised such horror existed.

Sweet!

http://www.ripten.com/2012/07/10/michael-fassbender-dons-the-robes-as-actor-and-producer-in-the-new-assassins-creed-movie/

Of course, movies of games (as much as comics, books and ok, anything really) are dangerous territory, but I think this could work well. Whether the story from the game is translated well remains to be seen I suppose.

General / Dredd's armour
« on: 06 June, 2012, 06:22:50 pm »
So, I just finished Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and got the Armour of Brutus...

http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Armor_of_Brutus

You can see where this is going I'm sure. Got me wondering whether it was based on original (perhaps ornamental) Roman armour and whether that was an influence on Dredd's design originally? Or is it nothing to do with the real Brutus and the guy's just based it on Dredd/Gladiator? Can't find anything under a quick search other than folk moaning about it being ugly. I though it was pretty cool, for obvious reasons. Even the left shoulder plate is over-sized in a similar way to Dredd's, though it does look more like traditional Centurion style shoulder bits.

Obviously the romans used eagles all over the place, just can't find any shoulder ones. Anyone know of anything, or anything that Carlos has said about the eagle previously? Only other place I can think of is Homelander's from The Boys but I'm guessing that's very likely based on Dredd's  :D

Would put this in the games section but my question's more about Dredd's armour design so here we are.

Film & TV / Space 2099

No, not a mistake, or then again, it may yet prove to be  :D

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/space-2099-television-remake-288601

Looks as though they've no messed with the Eagles too much and after the recent new V (which I liked on the whole), it could be not bad.

Obviously a low quality of journalism on that site, rife with statements like "Space: 2099 is poised for a comeback.". Still, obvious pedantry aside, quite looking forward to this, remember it well.

Of course, for those that aren't as ancient as some of us, it's a remake of the 70s Gerry Anderson "live" SciFi show, Space 1999.

Film & TV / Misfits
« on: 15 November, 2011, 03:10:58 pm »
Couldn't find a thread on this, although I'm sure there is one. Anyway, I'm sure there's another thread about sightings of 2000ad etc somewhere, but in the absence of both...

This week's Misfits had a bloke obsessed with superheroes. In one scene (somewhat bizarrely) you see him looking through comics with a Judge Dredd (not sure what, strange looking cover) and an ABC Warriors GN (one of the newer ones).

Hooray! Good episode too, I liked the end a lot. New boy isn't a patch on the old Irish one.

4 days to go and no thread?   :o

So yeah, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim out on Friday, anyone else retreating from the outside world to play in the land snowy lands of Skyrim? If my time on Oblivion's anything to go by, I may be some time.

Right then, bit of a "sublime to the ridiculous" collection this but it's all stuff that I have 2 of, for various reasons. Was going to put them on eBay (some at least) but I'll stop past here first. All P&P only, well P, as I've gathered enough sub envelopes n Amazon things to cover most packaging. Some prices stated for the better stuff.

Will post more after tomorrow, got mates coming round for poker that might want some of them.

Crisis

1-35, 37-46 Mostly VG, some FN I'd say, though No.1 is a bit shabby from that top of the pile thing and the odd one has a crease/rough edge.

Not sure how I ended up with such a huge duplicate Crisis collection there, but there you go. Would prefer to sell the lot (or close to it), so make me some kind of offer for them I'd say.

2000ad

Prog 7 - Lot of damage to the spine of the cover, but readable if you're careful. Will deliver that free if anyone wants it.
Prog 100 - No poster in the middle, otherwise VG.
Prog 196 - Name on it, otherwise VG
Prog 197 - VG, Bolland Black Atlantic cover
Prog 199 - VG, Bolland Black Atlantic cover
Prog 1295 - VFN, as delivered really, replacement from the flood that I didn't need.
Prog 1315 - VG, bit of a fold on back cover

Starlord

All G/VG, don't know numbers but 3rd, 10th, 17th June and 1st July cover dates.

Megazine

V3 58  - FN Greg Staples Dredd poster included
V4 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 - All VG/FN
V4 9, 16 - Small cover folds, otherwise VG

2000ad Yearbook

1993 - G/VG

A-Z of Judge Dredd

The book - VG

Classifieds / Free progs!
« on: 04 February, 2011, 08:05:51 pm »
Hi folks,

I've just finished replacing my damaged progs after the Boxing Day flood (Disaster 2010 ) and I'm left with a few spare after buying a bunch on ebay (only needed half of them) and thought I'd offer them up here to see if I can find them a good home. Nothing special...

Progs 1120-1160, all in pretty good condition, I'd say VG/F on the official scale. Kind of brown at the edge and smell like a loft but otherwise fine ;)

Free gifts included - Babylon 5 postcards, Phantom Menace stickers (yeah I know) and the demo disc for Homeworld (never tried that out at the time so no idea what that's about). 1150 is a nice 48 page special, small crease on the top corner of that one.

All covered by insurance so free to a good home if you can cover postage (paypal). No more than a few quid I should imagine.

Chuck me a pm if interested.

Books & Comics / Michael Moorcock's Elric etc.
« on: 23 December, 2005, 03:34:35 am »
In the interests of not straying from the point, the following has not been posted to the Ghibli thread...

New Elric Trilogy
I'm currently reading the "final" Eternal Champion book just now, 3rd of the recent Elric trilogy. It's rather damn good, although not as hack n slash as the older ones. Loads of characters coming together from the League of Temporal Adventurers, Von Beks etc and they'll all in Granbretan of all places (The evil empire from the Hawkmoon books). Good old Gaynor von Minct and Klosterheim are of course intent on the destruction of everything. All three (The Dreamthief's Daughter, The Albino in America and The White Wolf's Son) are thoroughly recommended for anyone who's read any of the Eternal Champion "series", especially the Elric ones. Started in 1953/5(?) by all accounts.

Elric: The Making of a Sorceror
Also started the new Elric 'origin' comics (got 1 and 2 of 4 so far) with georgeous art by Walt Simonson. Absolutely superb, dealing with Elric's long dreams (which the recent trilogy have also been part of, kind of).

Some of you may know Elric from the D&D type game of course, which I've never seen myself.

Here's a link to some info on it and more importantly, there's some examples of the artwork. The site (typically) seems to be down right now, but I'm sure it'll be back up once the Conjunction of the Million Spheres has passed...
