Off Topic / Anyone For Photoshop Tennis?
« on: 27 August, 2009, 06:19:57 pm »
I came across this on t'interweb:  http://www.slightlywarped.com/crapfactory/photoshoptennis/index.htm

I thought we might have a go, starting off with a Twoothy image, of course. Seems to me that the first step is to identify how many Photoshoppers want to play. Once we have our artists, I'll post up a starting image and then email or PM the first player. The first player adds his/her alterations, posts the new image and then passes it on to the next player in line. The next player does his/her thing, posts the result and passes it on to the next player and so on and so forth until everyone's had a go. You can only play with the image when it's your turn or else it'll all just go wrong.

Anybody wanna play?

General / The Never Ending Tale of Edwin Dweeble.
« on: 19 August, 2009, 03:24:06 pm »
Just a bit of fun I thought I'd try. The Rules are:

1: Each post must be short, with an absolute maximum of 100 words.
2: The story is set in Mega City One exactly 122 years in the future. http://www.hf.rim.or.jp/~kaji/cal/cal.cgi?2131 for a calendar.
3: Always leave off halfway through a sentence.
4: Always continue the previous unfinished sentence, using it as the start of your post. (If someone beats you to it, they win.    Delete your post and start again.)
5: Have fun.

About Edwin Dweeble: Edwin (33) is married to Petunia (43) and has two children; Millie (8, F) and Pewter (10, M). The Dweeble family have just moved from Brit Cit to MC1 because some idiot told Edwin there was work there. Edwin is a qualified Spivvle Valve inspector. He has just found out that Spivvle Valves are illegal in MC1. Beyond that, just add stuff as you go.

Right then, I'll get the ball rolling:

The Never Ending Tale of Edwin Dweeble.

Well, we've been in "The Big Meg" for a whole month now, so I thought I'd knuckle down and get started on making something of myself. Through hard work and perseverance, through courage and cunning, through adversity and triumph, I know I have the drive to succeed. That is why, with a resolute heart and a firm hand, I put my shoulder to the grindstone and started a diary.

What better way to make money? I shall document my experiences and then sell them to the highest bidder, thus becoming rich and famous. Perfect. At least, that was the plan. I was just sitting down to write my first entry when there was an insistent hammering at the front door. Upon opening the door, I was immediately struck by...

... the greedy spuggers on Ebay who refuse to combine postage and then mail things in flimsy, second hand envelopes.

Do you have any proper shoes, like Sump Sweaty Sandals, Justice Dept Moshing Boots or Strontium Hush Puppies?

Film & TV / Minder Remake

Channel Five have remade Minder.

I doubt that there's ever been a more inauspicious sentence than that in the history of television. Channel Five, that shadowy purveyor of CSI Omnipresent, gangsters relieving each other of their kneecaps, fuzzy reception and documentaries about people with horrendous things wrong with them has had a stab at reinventing one of the best loved comedy-drama programmes ever to be seen in the UK. I just knew it was going to be beyond rubbish. It was going to be toxic, unrecyclable rubbish that would poison the airwaves for centuries and quite possibly cause aliens watching on Zeta Reticuli to finally unleash their death rays and mutant zombie cyborg stormtroopers on us once and for all in the interests of galactic sanity. Removing any heavy objects from within easy reach in case I got so miffed as to throw things at my beloved telly, I tuned in and watched it expecting to be in a state of apoplexy from roll to cut.

Imagine my surprise when I actually enjoyed it. Imagine my confusion when I found myself laughing out loud at the"...might as well be haunted" line, Archie pretending to be a ghost and the microwaving of two unfortunate cockroaches.

It was never going to be as good as the original, but it's not a hundred miles away and I for one am looking forward to the next episode. I can't be alone in this... can I? I can't remember being so pleasantly surprised by anything for a long time and it's taught me to be less judgemental and condescending about certain sentences that would otherwise chill me to the bone. In honour of this lesson, I have decided to make the following my sentence of the month:

Channel Five have remade Minder.
