I had this video too, but it was lost during various house moves. Along with other casualties like my Judge Dredd candle and full height Bolland door poster...

Cor!  I remember seeing that candle - must have been in the mid-eighties at Fantasy World, Hanley!

Wow thanks for doing that John that's going to be a joy to watch - can't wait.

I might be entirely wrong but wasn't this offered in the comic and you bought it there. I seem to remember something like this, but my memory isn't what it was and is not to be trusted!

I was going to say the same - so the ad must have appeared somewhere around Prog 520 (which was a tad over ten years after the first prog, due to those strikes after the first episode of Halo Jones).  Anyway, I didn't have a VCR at the time but remember there was an advert for... something.

Sharky- I'd love to bore you all to death with a thread on the progress, but think of the reality; "Thread update 91: January 16th. Dropped form 785-B into Wicklow Count Council for cross signature".
I can't compete with a model Millennium Falcon build for Grud's sake!
Nah, it's gonna be a long boring slog that could (but hopefully won't) take up to two years to complete, and that's even if everything falls into place (including the key potential mine-field; planning permission approval).

I for one would like to see such a thread.  Speaking as someone who started a prog slog thread which should last around three or four years ;-)

Is it common for someone to build their own house in Ireland?  It's just I used to work with someone who did exactly the same thing (before a messy divorce).

If you want to watch British soldiers moaning constantly while they are on exercise, then watch the first part of Dog Soldiers, as that was spot on.

So you're saying the second half of that film isn't so accurate?  If only they had some Cassidium!

p.s. thanks for the in-depth reply.

General / Re: Tips for a new reader
« on: 08 October, 2015, 03:49:49 pm »
The jumping-on issues are regular features, cropping up at least three times in a given year to make it easy for new/lapsed readers to join.

Working backward, the last few have been: 1950, 1934, 1924, PROG2015, 1900, 1888, 1874, PROG2014... and that's just the last two years. So plenty of oppurtunity to jump onboard!

Even though we all treated it as such, 1934 was not a jumping-on prog (just happened that all but one of the stories had new starts in that prog).

Welcome to the board / Re: Welcome to wherever I am

Hi just a quick message to say Hi. I've been an on off reader of 2000AD since the early 80s thanks to my big cousin lending me his back issues. The forum looks like a pretty cool place and am looking forward to making new acquaintances. Big into comics, Star Wars, Star Trek, GOT, anything geeky really and I'm all over it like a rash.

Looking forward to the Force Awakens in December?  There's a thread about it somewhere (it's called something along the lines of 'Disney acquire Lucasfilm').

96 pages of the thread so far.

I have been listening to Melechesh a lot recently, particularly their most recent album "Enki"
If you like metal a little "different" I would highly recommend them, There aren't too many "Mesopotamian metal" bands out there....even if the artwork weirdly reminds of the Kula shaker album  :o

The Dave Gibbons one?

I'll be at the London date on the farewell tour from Devilish Presley on Saturday at the Pipeline (East of Liverpool Street).  They'll be supported by Global Noise Attack, The Underruners and The Court of Sybaris.

He's looking rather sprightly for an old rocker. My old Boss used to work for him as a cleaner/washer up. It's a small world after all.

I was thinking it must have been a picture from the late seventies / early eighties, before I worked out it was his son next to him...

General / Re: how to do a prog slog
« on: 05 October, 2015, 01:32:05 am »
I'm currently on a Prog Slog.

My next Prog is 250. This was such a golden era for 2000AD that I am getting through them quite quickly as I am skipping the previously mentioned classic stories.
The real joy for me has been the Future Shocks. I had forgotten a few of them and there are some real gems in there.

Which prog are you up to now?  After a week since the last one (my self-imposed deadline) I'm up to Prog 14.

I'll keep an eye out for that thread (I used to read Tiger and Eagle out of the comics you listed).  Tornado pages should be fairly easy as they're from the House of Tharg.

p.s. welcome to the board.

Medical not metal.  Bloody auto correct.

Does that mean you are metal then?  Or should that be METAL!?

I get the 'map love' but sometimes wonder if it's filler...

Arguably so in the old days, but in the fifteen years I've been reading there's only been this and the recent Slaine map! If that's filler I want far more of it!

Can't think of an awful amount of (large-scale, not thumbnail) maps appearing in the progs.  In rough chronological order I can only think of the following:
  • that double-page spread in Meltdown Man which in no way was filler ;-)
  • the Land of the Young in Sláine's time (from 330, and a similar map from The Horned God)
  • the post-Apoc sectors, as presented by Judge Barratt
  • ummm - did that Anderson one appear in 2000AD or the Meg?  Or was it a feature in a special?

Anyone had the thrillmail this week? No sign of it here.
date:30 September 2015 at 18:02
subject:The return of Bad Company, plus new merch and new podcast - this is the 2000 AD Thrill-Mail!

Nice piece from the Irish Sun featuring Jonathan Fisher (presumably of this board?) in an impressive Dredd 2012 uniform.
