I'll try and get more posted up soon. I've got a lot of old Starlord art to sort properly. I've gotta get a new digital camera though, mine commit seppuku.
I'm also in the tentative stages of organising some 2000AD art diplays in central London, for this summer. I'll blab all when it's signed off!

As I understand it, someone from Rebellion was at Angouleme this year, looking to drum up interest in the Rebellion graphic novels range.  Since they were just about the only UK publisher there, they ended up being inundated with artists and publishers looking for 2000AD to publish their stuff instead, 99% of which was porn, crappy cod-Tolkien fantasy, or crappy cod-Tolkien fantasy porn.

As you say, though, there are lots of great European artists, if only they can be persuaded to draw something other than naked elven warrior princesses riding unicorns.  The only European arsist that I can think of that got a 2000Ad gig redcently was Inaka Miranda, and that was only because he made the effort to go to Bristol and show his stuff to Matt Smith, who hired him on the spot.

Morning Gordon,
Well.. it's a start! Maybe it's Angouleme that attracts pornopixie purveyers, hopefully we're looking in the wrong places then. There is a slant towards fantasy art on the continent, but there's a lot of great scifi stuff too. Maybe getting in touch with the Humanoide Associe or such would yield more compatibily artdroidwise!
Again, in Barcelona I saw lots of cool horror comics, so there's obviously talent hiding somewhere!

"Inaka Miranda, and that was only because he made the effort to go to Bristol and show his stuff to Matt Smith, who hired him on the spot."

Of course he had the good sense to go to study in this country, so he was probably already somewhat aware of our mysterious British 'culture'.

There is some good European sf and horror stuff out there, as well as all the hack and slash stuff. I was quite interested, when wandering around Brussells at Christmas time, how much stuff there is, and how accessible most of it is. There's a really big small press over there, which is certainly comparacble with ours in Britain, and I also finally got to see Pat Mills' Claudia, Vampire Knight by Olivier Ledroit (although it was in Flemmish, so god knows what it was about).

Don't they spend ages wading through pictures of spiderman and pin-ups with no demonstration of storytelling ability when they do that in the UK?
