Some of the stuff I saw in the Sony Centre earlier this year was frankly draw-dropping

"Er, bit more detail required, Ade!"

Sorry, I'm a software man, not into gadgets, know little about specs.

"I meant more like what OS are you running?"

Windows XP

"How much free HDD space?"

Just freed some up, still not working with 3.12GB free.

"What is the 128MB? Is that your onboard RAM?",

er, think so, though since it had a DVD drive built in it would seem something of a disapointment if it's not built to play them in any watchable way.

Methinks I'm being dim.

Installed DVD43 but it hasn't made a difference. It's in my programs but doesn't open or run & when I try to play Region 2 dvds still get the same region locked message.

I'm still confused about the new DVD formats.

I think I know what DVD/R and DVD/RW are but when I was in Amsterdam recently, they were flogging loads of films in the new DVDA format.
Be excellent to each other. And party on!

Not quite,  Max, not quite...

I should have put a little winky thing to let you know it was a joke.  Don't google DVDA at work, whatever you do.

Sick puppy...

Max - DVDA is... *ahem* ...a porn initialism that stands for Double Vaginal Double Anal.

I'm sure you can work the rest out... ;-)

...and I should add that it is a fictional setup, before anyone starts trying to figure out how four chaps & a lass could perform the said act...

Are rewritable DVDs reliable enough to be used for archive purposes? The other day I accessed three DVD+RW's last used about a year ago, in order to get some of our Clients' archived data, and they're all unreadable now.

Bugger.

If not - what is the generally accepted timescale they can be relied upon for?
