2015 BlueCat Screenplay Competition
Grand Prize $10,000 for Best Short
World’s Largest Cash Prize for a Short Screenplay
FINAL DEADLINE November 15th at 11:59pm PST

The BlueCat Screenplay Competition awards the world’s largest cash prize for best short screenplay: $10,000, with three finalists each receiving a cash prize of $1,500.

In keeping with our longstanding tradition, every screenplay will receive one written analysis.

ENTRY FEES: $60 for short screenplays, $70 for feature length screenplays. Students will be eligible to submit their short screenplay at a discounted $35 rate for the duration of the competition.

Short screenplays must be between 5 and 40 pages in length.

Since 1998, the BlueCat Screenplay Competition has provided a community for the unknown screenwriter to develop their work, giving undiscovered talent a path to professional success.

Recent achievements by BlueCat Alumni include:

2014 BlueCat Winner HF Crum has signed with manager Michelle Knudsen at MXN. Knudsen co-produced Jason Bateman's "Bad Words" and also represents screenwriting team Yana Gorskaya & Maia Rossini, who are currently writing a film for FOX and director Paul Feig.  Crum's "3 Faces of Hunger & Thirst" won Best Feature Screenplay at the 2014 Slamdance Screenplay Competition, as well as being selected as one of nine screenwriters for the 2014 IFC Lab.

2014 BlueCat Joplin Award Winner Savion Einstein  and her screenplay, THE LONGEST BIRTHDAY, was named as one of six fellows to the 2014 Black List Lab in Las Vegas. She was mentored by Jessica Bendinger (Bring it On, Stick It), Max Borenstein (Godzilla, Seventh Son), Jesse Wigutow (It Runs in the Family, The Prince) and Scott Myers (K-9, Alaska).

BlueCat Finalist Aaron Guzikowski's #1 Film "Prisoners," (Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Melissa Leo) was released in September 2013 through Warner Brothers. Guzikowski is also the creator of "The Red Road," (Martin Henderson, Jason Momoa, Julianne Nicholson) which is SundanceTV's second scripted original series.

2006 BlueCat Winner Young Il Kim's script, "Rodham," attached director James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now) after having been on the 2012 Black List. Young recently won the 2013 Alfred P. Sloan Commissioning Grant from Sundance, and is currently writing a biopic on Stephen Hawking.

2007 BlueCat Winner Ana Lily Amipour's debut feature, "A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night," was produced by Elijah Wood and premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.  It will be distributed by Kino Lorber (Oldboy, Manuscripts Don't Burn) nationwide in Fall 2014.

BlueCat Finalist Ashleigh Powell sold her script, "SomaCell," to Warner Brothers, with David Goyer (Batman Begins, Man of Steel) attached to produce.  Powell is repped by Daniel Vang at Benderspink.

You make an interesting point, bluecatscreenplay, but there has always been a political element and a streak of black pessimism running through Pat Mills's work.

For all the fantasy/sci-fi trappings of something like Nemesis, it's essentially concerned with the way the exercise of power encourages total domination by a despot or oligarchy, and the tendency for resistance to such power to descend into ideologically empty and socially useless, shiftless individualism - motivated more by hatred, revenge, and the desire to bring down existing power structures, rather than serving a coherent plan to replace them with something more equitable.

Even the early Flesh, Ro-busters, and ABC Warriors stories contained implicit criticisms of rampant consumerism and corporate malfeasance.
