Steve White.

The man who euthanized killed the original Rogue Trooper ('Ascent' Pt 4, Prog 949).

Well, for my next trick, I might either endear myself to the fan community forever, or else devalue the whole project in the eyes of the creators.

Anyway, the 92nd most prolific contributor to 2000AD and the Judge Dredd Megazine is...

is...

Stephen Watson, Paisley.

Matt Nixon and/or Sloano did have a point, though. What was the editor thinking, dishing out work to a talentless chancer like Frank Quitely? The nineties were terrible!

From Bishop's reply to those would-be 'bad boys of 2000AD fandom' of the mid-90s, Matt & Sloano*:

Quote
Criticising the work of others while hiding behind a nickname is pure cowardice.

Thank goodness nothing like that happens these days, eh?

*I had a drink with one of them at one of the old UKCACs at that time, although I can't remember which one of the pair it was. The other one chickened out of the offer to meet to pour his vitriol on me in person.  Unsurprisingly, the one that did turn up was a total chocolate soldier, face to face.

Just opened up the Christmas prog and in another marvellous bit of serendipity, I see Mr Watson has the Star Letter! A Christmas miracle.

Holidays, illness, life etc all pushed aside, I'm back in business with Hero No. 93, the Biz himself:

The first time I read the Black Hole story I didn’t really understand what was going on, but I enjoyed reading it anyway, and that’s mostly thanks to Bisley (and SMS):

I'm still not sure I get everything that's going on. To be honest, some of what I knew I was missing only fell into place after listening to Julius Howe and Eamonn Clarke's authoritive and entertaining discussion of The Black Hole (including what was actually, deliberately missing from the story):

A talented chap, despite his art being associated with an unpopular era and several not-particularly-good scripts. (Book of the Dead is obviously dreadful, but I also didn't like Slaine: Demon Killer / Queen of Witches at all.) Although I’m not a fan of post-Horned God Slaine (as is probably clear) I did enjoy ‘Treasures of Britain’ despite myself – definitely the best of Power’s art to grace the prog.

A talented chap

Very much so.

A very prolific 2000AD cover artist too.

The brilliant cover to Prog 911 was probably the best thing about Wilderlands.

Time for another contemporary hero, always a bit of a worry as I suspect they're more likely to read what I've wrote.

It's Ben Willsher

Still coming down from the 40th, but am slowly getting back into the swing.
Next up is one of the few creators who wasn't in Hammersmith:
Andy Clarke
