I'm back in the Betsey Trotwood pub with Alex Frith to discuss True Faith by Garth Ennis and Warren Pleece from the pages of Crisis.
Religion, violence and conversations in pubs, plus some interesting comparisons between the two collected editions.

And check out Alex's Heroes of 2000AD blog.

Two AlexF podcasts this week, it's Frith-fest!
Here is Alex's Warren Pleece grail page as it appeared in the 1990 Fleetway edition.
I'll post up some page comparisons from the Vertigo trade, and the original comic tomorrow.

And here is how that page appears in the 1997 Vertigo trade.

And a scan from the page in Crisis. Compare and contrast.

I'd say the original Crisis printing comes out best, but the mood is changed in each version to interesting effect. Who knew there was so much artistic potential in a drab school building?

It’s fascinating that there are such marked differences between the three. I wonder which Warren Pleece feels is nearest to his original?

Episode 99 and the book club boldly goes back in the water to discuss the history of Action comic and, in particular, Hook Jaw with Liam Dempsey from the Trek-tastic Spocklight podcast.

And Liam's grail page by Ramon Sola as McNally meets his maker.
I can't see what the Sun newspaper and Frank Bough objected to.   :o

Sweet! I have a boring and lonely sign-painting job lined up tomorrow.  Descriptions of Hook Jaw eviscerating people will be just the tonic to liven things up.  Really enjoyed the Metalzoic one too; I'd forgotten it existed - which is a crying shame given it's one of the most imaginative and beautiful stories the prog's ever run.

The Book Club keeps delivering :-)
Really enjoyed Metalzoic and True Faith, two gems that I really-really-really need to give a second read...

Thanks all.

Episode 100!  :o
And Simon Belmont is back as I climb into the attic of Dare for a discussion of the Man from Nowhere collection from Dragon's Dream in 1979.

A huge thank you to all my guests, listeners and contributors. Stay tuned for the next 100.

Congratulations on the milestone! Here's to many many more!

Also very excited to see the grail pages for this episode, it sounds amazing, and it's definitely an area I don't know much about.
