—INSERT NAME OF TALENTED ARTIST HERE— can't get work in comics.

It'd be a long list. Go take a look at Mark Millar's Hit Girl audition thread, for example, and note the number of talented, professionally published artists prepared to publicly audition for a gig on there who aren't currently working.

Cheers

Jim

I'm not knocking how difficult it is to get work as a comics artist, though I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few of those artists already had paying gigs lined up but figure they'd have to be mental to not take a shot at a high-profile 80k payday on a project that - no offence to Millar or his publishers - might not have the most stringently-enforced deadlines if past form is any indicator.
An artist plays their cards right, they could be working on two jobs at once, one of which is paying way over the industry rate.

Wonderful piece Strontium71, I'd be hanging onto it until I ran out of porridge.

Which Prog had the blank sketch cover variant by the way?

Well that's a bit harsh! Fay's work is magnificent similar in style to Bernie Fuchs and Mead Schaeffer. Perhaps stylistically there isn't much room in modern comic books, with it's emphasis on Super heroes for the more illustrative style of work. Bugger eh?

Picked up the Folio Society edition of Casino Royale recently as illustrated by the redoubtable Fay Dalton. Lovely stuff.
