Actually I think I had the Goldeneye remake which was OK and a Call of Duty (World at War?) which made me feel queasy when it lavished war porn love on the flamethrower and asked me to shoot unarmed prisoners.

I had no idea standard shoot-em-ups were that bad.  I've just done a quick google and found a few complaints that they allow you to commit war crimes in-game, but are there games where you're actually required to commit war crimes in order to successfully complete the missions?  Using flame-throwers in close combat, executing unarmed and wounded prisoners, destroying civilian buildings, etc?

It was eight or nine years ago so I am struggling to remember but I think it's a Yes to the flame-throwers.  That was making me feel the game was a wrong 'un but then during the Russian portion, iirc, you have to choose between shooting or burning some prisoners.  I stopped playing at that point.

Spec Ops: The Line is a really good shooter which tackles the subject of what games require you to do in the name of entertainment. It's basically Apocalypse Now, in which you play a character who is becoming less sane and losing his judgement as time goes on, leading to the infamous 'white phosphorus' sequence. It's well worth a play through or even just reading about online.

I really like it when games purposefully play with your sense of morality, Spec Ops is a good example JamesC. I never played World at War though, I'm not sure how it was executed there. I'm working on a little indie platformer at the moment which will have it's own moral conundrum near the end,  assuming I don't bottle it!

On topic, I played a bunch of Rogue Trooper Redux with a mate, it was great stuff. It takes a little bit to get going but once you're all powered up with your biochips and the real gameplay has shown itself, it's still as good as I remember.

We also booted up the PS2 version afterwards to compare, it's interesting. Theres something more cohesive about the art style of the original, its much more stylised and then in the Redux they've injected some realism, perhaps creating a clash. Redux still looks cool though, the extra resolution goes a long way for a kick off! Does anyone know if it does 4k on the Pro and the X? that would be cool.

It's not on the list of enhanced games for XB1X so don't think they've patched it for 4K or anything, but haven't booted it up to see if it still gets some benefits. Will need to have a look!
