Funnily enough I saw a topic ripping into the forum over on Facebook the other day. It was quick to accuse it of being full of bullying, a lone voice (not sure who as they had their real name - sorry if you read this) stood up to defend the forum and as you can predict on Facebook the knives where out quick enough. It was all a bit unpleasent.

Ooh, that makes me so mad! And it's always folk that haven't been here for five or six years now - how would they know what the forum is like?!

I probably wouldn't have had my very first comic strip printed recently,

Oh Ya! can you tell use more?

Great to hear the comp will be back in the new year, thanks CFM

CFM and the Art Comp rock.
When it returns I'll get my finger/crayons out and get more involved. 'Life' has been the problem in recent months.

FB and the rest really do grind my gears. I stumble on it occasionally and on some level always regret it. It's baffling.

I've seen attacks on this forum on socialist media that just seem motivated by misplaced entitlement from someone enraged that their opinions aren't mirrored by the people who regularly come here, and so resort to running off to FB or Twitter to tell tales.  Gets them through the day, I suppose.

Forums and Facebook for fill very different functions. I've gotten into heated exchanges on here and vented about it on Facebook, normally as a concurrent event. The forum is an open platform, Facebook is more of a support group. Sometimes Venting on your home ground (like Facebook) can be a valuable way of calming down between rage posts on an open platform.

I Like this forum, I really like the creative community and the art competition. If the forum itself starts to wind down I'll be very sad to see one of my defined compartments for social interaction disappear.

Interesting.  I would have said it was the other way round myself but then I see Facebook as a tool of the Antichrist and the source of all that is evil in the world so don't go anywhere near it.   ;)

Admittedly this is a slightly exaggerated version of my views but on a more serious note, over the years Facebook, Snapchat and similar platforms have been the source of significant and somewhat stressful workloads over the years.  Often incendiary, inflammatory or downright abusive posts have spilled over into the real world and overly complicated already difficult situations.  Granted this is a personal perspective but the idea of Facebook being somewhere to 'calm down' strikes me as highly ironic under these circumstances.

I would agree that it would be a shame if this place was to fall by the wayside, mind.  As you say, there are times when exchanges become quite heated although they tend to be the exception rather than the rule.  Sometimes I think that the 'welcome thread' needs a signpost that a rather robust sense of humour is needed, that forum members are not mind readers and that quite often offence is accidental rather than intentional.  (Oh and that Jim is just a grump sod but don't mind him, he's like that with everyone.  He's a bit like that gruff Yorkshireman in the corner of your local that has mastered the art of the withering glare and sarcastic putdown.  So long as you don't poke him you'll be fine.)

I only started joining in with the Art comp because I felt like this would be a nice place to do so. Facebook can get a bit nasty and emotional sometimes, in general I find the people on this forum to be really nice :) I wouldn't feel as comfortable sharing my art to a wider audience on Facebook, I'm not the most confident artist but I've always felt comfortable with this forum.
The competition has inspired me to actively pursue some more serious art learning and push myself out of my comfort zone. The standard of entries is very high and it always pushes me to try harder. Even if I don't participate I'm definitely lurking, in a kind of good benevolent way.

Sometimes people have different opinions, accept it and move on. Not everyone will agree all the time. Sometimes people just get things wrong and make mistakes (I do this all the time!) There's nothing wrong with admitting to a mistake, even better if you learn something and come away a better person for it.
We're also very fortunate to have some professionals on this forum :)

Facebook can be horrific when you stray from your own circle of friends (sometimes even when you stray from your own page.) But on your page you are the boss. I intentionally turned Facebook into safe ground ages ago, after one to many confrontation. it's only social media if you make it that way and it's only anti social media if you let it be.

I haven't had many arguments on here and none of them have ended in feuds or threats or even long term falling outs. In general this forum is a nice place full of mostly people of a similar age to me who like 2000ad. That's some decent common ground.

The main question for me is where is the No October Art Comp? voting thread?

I've been a member of a few forums and this is the now only one I attended. Seriously the most helpful and talented bunch Ive seen. I don't post often but I check the forum almost daily. Viva la forum! Viva la art comp!

Also, when the Dredd Mega City One tv show starts up, I bet some new people will join and many old squax will return to the fold.

I recently signed back up to Facebook after years away from it, is there a more public slant to facebook now with more interactions between strangers?

I'm also hoping the art competition comes back soon, I may lurk a lot and not enter but I often check on it!

Perhaps sooner even than that ;)

You chaps are so bloody lovely. Again - I've been on this forum on-and-off since I was 15 and I've never been totally scared off, so that says something anyways  :D

Yeah the Forum does seem to be grinding to a halt.

Do you really think so Colin?

I wouldn't post every day, but do check in quite regularly.
Apart from the temporary absence of some regulars it seems to be business as usual from where I'm sitting.
Doesn't it always have approx 200 people online every day?

I genuinely love this forum- have never bothered with any other form of social media, and based on all sane evidence never will.

Regarding the topic in hand- I do enjoy the art comp too, it's had some brilliant contributions over the years.
I'll definitely make sure I comment / vote more regularly on the art comp from now on.
