So I'm currently making a Dredd LEGO minifigure, mostly inspired by KevLev's 2000AD LEGO poster he did a while back, but also inspired by the fact that I've got all the time in the world for LEGO and it'd be rude not to.

The helmet is a Mandalorian Trooper's, cut and sanded with a badge made from a spare bit of something, glued on and filled to make the respirator body. The body has been cleaned and prepped for some decals I'll make when I get some slide transfer paper. The shoulder eagle is mostly sculpted from Fimo with some flat bits of LEGO cut from a flag used for the wings with a pauldron used for the tail, the shoulderpad is a felt tipped pen lid cut down to size, both have been glued onto a set of pauldrons. The gun is a standard stormtrooper blaster with bits cut off and other bits glued on, shaped and sanded where necessary. I'm going to decal the body, arms and legs, and somehow the helmet, along with painting.

This is the fist time I've attempted anything like this and I'm kinda blagging it as I go along. Lessons learned so far: you can boil Fimo to cure it rather than roasting it. Lego gets soft when its boiled and helmets can lose their shape. You need really high grit sandpaper to get a decent finish, which I need to get.

LEGO is awesome.

More to follow as it comes.

DDT did a job on me

oi, I was being serious

James

Cheers people.

Got some Brasso, cheers. His Helmet and pads have ben painted, transfers have been printed and are varnished and drying.

I've already created helmet v2.0, shoulderpad v2.0, and eagle v2.0 is under construction. I'm going to try silicon moulding and the resin casting, something I've wanted to do for ages but never had the excuse.

More pics soon.

This is awesome. I love custom Lego figs. I wish I could do them

Small update time:

Shoulder pad, helmet and eagle mk 2 have been created and I've made silicone moulds of them all and the gun. The main body and head have been decorated and await the pads and helmet which I'm casting with polyurethane resin. My first attempt at mould making failed mostly, I'm hoping the second attempt yields better results.

I suspect the resin I chose may not be the best for casting small thin fragile things, if anyone has any experience with anything like this and can lend some advice I'd be grateful.

If all goes to plan I'll be able to finish tomorrow and put some pics up.

Meanwhile I've also made my kid in a Swans kit for a birthday present which is double awesome.

So...nearly finished, actually I don't think I'll ever truly finish.

I've struck gold with my 3rd attempt at casting in silicone, it was tricky getting such small pieces cast without breaking them getting them out of the moulds. I've used a 2-part liquid polyurethane resin coloured black or yellow for the pads, helmet, gun and shoulder brace (which the pads stick to), which has been a real struggle getting to work. The assembled piece here was the first successful cast of the pads, but the helmet is still a bit ropey. Also the decals I've used to decorate aren't sticking very well-I'll have to use some spray adhesive or something next time.

The helmet badge is a bit wonky too, and the red helmet detailing is slightly off centre.

Anyway I'm pretty happy with the results so far, I'm gonna keep casting more pieces to build a squad perhaps, or maybe I'll do Alpha next. Onwards!

great job though.
You ever notice that everyone who believes in creationism looks really unevolved? Eyes real close together, big furry hands and feet. "I believe God created me in one day." Yeah, looks like he rushed it.

You can never have too much Dredd lego though in all fairness. I like Dredds lego gurn.

Made some improvements, most notably the discovery of something called Amazing Casting Resin. The stuff I was using before was very brittle, this new stuff comes out like solid, if a little flexible plastic. Lush!

I've currently got 3 helmets, 3 sets of pads and 3 lawgivers ready for body and face creation. I think I'm going to paint the boots on though as the decal paper I'm using to wrap around the feet isn't doing it for me.

Work HAS started on Alpha, some progress pics later perhaps.
