Other Reviews / Rok of the Reds
27 February, 2016, 03:34:09 PM
I picked up the first issue of Rok of the Reds today.

Since I never read any Roy of the Rovers, I wasn't sure what I'd make of it.

I really enjoyed it, good to see the writing team back together and a great job all round, and can't wait for issue 2.

Games / GearVR, Oculus Rift etc.
24 January, 2016, 12:21:13 PM
Anyone had a play with the VR products that are starting to surface?

I bought a GearVR and Samsung S6 over Christmas, and although the games I've played so far are pretty lightweight mobile ones (obviously), it's interesting to see where it goes.

There are still issues with comfort, sharpness of the screen etc, but the head tracking works really well.

Also I've managed to get stills and animations from our Stront short onto it - very cool to have a virtual Doghouse in stereo 360, with a life-size Johnny Alpha standing there.

General / That Dredd story with Nigel Farage
30 November, 2015, 10:08:47 PM
Anyone know when that Nigel Farage Dredd story is going to appear?

It seemed like it was all lined up for the election, then nothing...

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/nigel-farage-re-imaged-as-unsightly-judge-dredd-villain-bilious-barrage-10151463.html

Missed the window for the Election?

Held back until the Euro referendum?

Cheers

Film & TV / Danny Cannon's Judge Dredd fan edit
03 July, 2015, 03:41:13 PM
Since this is an edit of copyrighted material, mods feel free to delete if it's on dodgy ground.

I came across this yesterday - I never thought to look before.

http://fanedit.org/ifdb/79-fanedit-listings/fanfix/923-danny-cannon-s-judge-dredd

It's a re-edit of the 1995 Judge Dredd, removing a fair bit of the worst of Rob Schneider's character, and generally tighter overall.

I'm not sure if ditching all of the opening introduction to the city was chucking the baby out with the bathwater, but it's interesting to see how it hangs together.

General / Walter figure on shapeways.
21 December, 2014, 05:13:47 PM
While on shapeways, I spotted this.

http://www.shapeways.com/model/787890/judge-dredd-walter-the-wobot.html?li=shop-results&materialId=6

It's only an inch tall but 6 Euros...

Since it's a digital model, there's no technical reason it couldn't be offered at a larger size... more whether Mongoose allow it.

This had a 3-part series earlier in the year, which passed me by.

Definitely worth a look (second 3-part series is on at the moment)

Creative Common / VAT rule change
29 November, 2014, 08:46:01 PM
Anyone heard about this?

It sounds like it could affect e-books and presumably digital comics.

In short (and I may be wrong) that you need to be VAT registered no matter what the size of your turnover.

(In the UK the threshold is around £80K)
