The Sopranos - ends this week and it's been great.
Carnivale - different and engaging - ends in two weeks I think.
SG1 and SG atlantis - not sure why at the minute - SG1 has its moments, but Atlantis is lacking.
Deadzone - series 3 (?) and it's still pretty good.
Simpsons - new episodes on SKY1
King of the Hill - new episodes on what ever channel Carnivale is on - consistently good, but why do they write Peggy as such a loser.
Green Wing - Well I like it.
QI, Have I Got News For You, Never Mind the Buzzcocks - 2 of these have had me in stiches so far for these runs. The other one is Have I Got News For You which is OK.
And the new River Cottage program.
Anyone else catching any of the above? If so, what do you think? And not that I have the time to watch these, but does anyone else have any recommendations?
I watch too much TV.
I hardly watch any television at all these days. I've been watching Green Wing, which I find very absorbing. And I saw the second part of this series of Little Britain, which wasn't very funny, but was still compelling enough just as an unfunny freak show. That's about it, really.
The Sopranos - Meh. This was alright but I found it too hard to keep track of.
Carnivale - ?
SG1 and SG atlantis - SG1 isn't great but it's watchable. See above fro Atlantis.
Deadzone - ? I wish I had satellite..
Simpsons - And on terrestrial. Wooh!
King of the Hill - I LOVE this show. The humour is clever perfectly timed and unpredictable. I havent ever seen a bad episode.
Green Wing - You strange, strange man. ;)
QI, Have I Got News For You, Never Mind the Buzzcocks - QI is very good. HIGNFY is good too (I dont live in the same country and I still fnd it pretty funny which isn't bad). As for NMTB... I hate Mark Lamarr!
And the new River Cottage program - Uh... ?
I also reccomend the new teenage mutant ninja turtles cartoon. It's super!
Yep, the new TMNT is great. Follows the plot of the comics more closely too.
I'm about to start re-watching Deadwood after missing 2 episodes whilst on Holiday.
Has anyone been watching the new Galactica? It's really quite good.
Trying to watch Hex, but keep missing it due to various reasons. What I've seen of it seems OK, but not great.
Steve
Monkey Dust -Dark, satirical, and funny.
Sopranos - finally they had another dream sequence: it's like watching Twin Peaks all over again.
Arrested Development - best new comedy on television, and there's 22 episodes!
The Bernie Mac Show - should be crap, but Bernie Mac's just too good.
The Power of Nightmares - confirms everything I ever thought.
Magic - great little series dealing with the growth and evolution of individual aspects of magic.
Monkey Dust - based on the first episode - is bloody brilliant! I wish I had a tenth of the talent of the writing team.
On normal telly... Umm... Wait a minute... Oh yeah. Have I got News for You and Jules Holland (if I'm in), Top Gear and Scrapheap Challenge.
On Satellite. New Battlestar Galactica, Long Way Round, SG1, Atlantis and Deadwood (JBO1's recommendation)
Elsewhere, I have just watched the Farscape Miniseries. Which Rocked.
Dan
Stuff I actually watch:
The Sopranos
The documentary series on boxing, the Nightmares doc (both excellent), the documentary series on magic
Background noise
Richard and Judy (of course!)
Neigbours, Doctors at the mo (I have no shame... )
The ITV show where they have two families of fatties who compete to loose weight and win a holiday... I've become shamelessly addicted after last weeks' episodes feature the familty that had previously been on wifeswap ("You're as bad as 'itler!") ended up in a punch up
News/Newsnight
Lots of other stuff
The power of nightmares as well- much the same thoughts as Byron
The only thing on TV I watch conciously is Deadwood. Superb stuff.
Bolt-01
Oh yes, The Power of Nightmares. I'm watching that too.
Deadwood is excellent - gripping stuff but shame Hickock had to die so soon. Brilliant trial.
Hex is sort of ok.
Same for Galactica and Atlantis.
Unfortunately, I have sky while my dad doesn't, which means I have to tape stuff that I watch, alongside other complete and utter tripe that I'd normally avoid like the plague.
The new Battlestar Galactica would be great if it wasn't based on a complete 70's cheesefest - it probably could support a fanbase on it's own merits, so why it needs the BSG nametag to highlight the gender tokenism, lazy plotting and unimaginative story-arc is beyond me.
Power of Nightmares is great, but depressing when you consider that no-one who really *needs* to be watching it will actually be watching it.
Stargate and Stargate:Atlantis are pretty much identical shows, except SG1 is just more familiar to sci-fi telly watchers - they're just fluff, but watchable enough.
Enterprise continues the grand tradition of Star Trek spin-offs that steadily head up their own arse with each incarnation, and it's a genuine shock to think that one of the criticisms that can be levelled at it is that it isn't as good as Voyager.
The Shield - pure class, but prone to cheesy dialogue.
Dead Zone - better than it should be, but not as dark as it likes to think it is.
Samurai Jack - top stuff.
The Batman - utterly shit Batman cartoon show which takes the 'Spiderman Unlimited' route of reinventing Batman and all his enemies - as ninja warriors. Penguin having a kung fu fight with Batman and nearly beating him is just the beginning of the crapness.
Justice League Unlimited - I like it, but if you buy into Pat Mills' idea of superheroes as some fascist allegory, this won't change your mind.
Mind you, I wouldn't trust MY opinion of good television. I was gutted when they cancelled Sunset Beach, AND I watch Mile High. Telly that KNOWS it's shit is better than telly that's shit just because it doesn't even try, IMHO.
Oh, but Hex is complete bum.
Six Feet Under - still one of the most consistant things on at the mo, even though it's growing old.
Teachers - They killed Kurt and Brian. Brian and Kurt are dead. It's got to be a mistake, they can't really be dead can they? I keep thinking it's a mistake, they aren't really gone...I'm in the denial stage.
Richard and Judy - "Coming up, do we have proof of reincarnation?"
Too Posh To Wash? - Too awfull to miss.
Pop Profile - the funniest thing that Walliams and his bald, fat, friend have done so far. Yes it is.
Hetty Wainthrop Investigates - God bless cable repeats.
At the mo I watch
seinfeild, becker and the daily show global edition (weekly show)
Absolutely nothing, save the occasional streaming news on the net while I work in the evening.
Feel fantastic for it too. Not sure I'll ever really go back to telly. Christmas time, maybe. Nothing else that I can bring to mind. I've been forced to live without and ended up loving it.
Heritic! Burn The Heritic!
"I was gutted when they cancelled Sunset Beach"
Those BASTARDS!
Teachers - They killed Kurt and Brian. Brian and Kurt are dead. It's got to be a mistake, they can't really be dead can they? I keep thinking it's a mistake, they aren't really gone...I'm in the denial stage.
WWHHHAAATT?????
I missed the beginning of the new series - and now I find out this? It can't be true - you're lying!
Must remember to watch it tonight.
No...they're dead. We saw their graves and everything. No, it's a mistake. Perhaps their flat burnt down whilst they went on an impulsive holiday and Matt allowed two people who look a lot like them to stay the night and people assumed it was Kurt and Brian?
I'll not accept they're dead til I see the bodies.
Seriously gutted by this. I was soooo looking forwards to the further adventures of Kurt and Brian.
But but but - there's a replacement Kurt (an atheist RE teacher) and Brian (black surly dude). And so far, scarily, they even seem to be funny!
local tv is terrible around here.
so i tend to watch more DVD stuff. which is dirt cheap out here.
currently on season 5 of Star trek NG
and about to embark on 24 soonish season 1.
though i do watch CSI and CSI miami every week on cable.
Have I only missed one episode this series, yes? Or did it start weeks ago?
At the minute....I'm watching....
My life being p*ssed down the drain in a pointless job, ruled by an editor who really doesn't get it ...
Apart from that, CSI in all its glorious forms ...
Six Feet Under - still the most compelling show on telly.
Arrested Development - wow! a new US comedy show which is laugh out loud funny. Brilliant.
Wife Swap - might have run it's course, but still must-see
X Factor - Trash TV at it's finest. Go! the Happy Mondays lady.
Smallville - cor, the only genre show I'm watching - what's wrong with me?
Seriously fell out with Teachers halfway through the last series. Had gotten so poor I was pretty surprised to see it back for another run.

You've missed...
Bob setting a bin on fire
Bob bribing kids to disrupt lessons
The headmistress trying to seduce Bob's replacement
"I'm not a Christian"
But yes, only one episode so far...
Yes, first episode of the new TEACHERS had me laughing out loud several times. The atheist RE teacher is great. Thought there was a bit too much fruity language though (but some of it was class).
I missed the end of the last series - what happened?
Oh and (nearly) the only "genre" show I get to watch is Smallville - still on season 2. People with perfect hair (or lack of) and teeth sve the world. It's great.
Oh and slowly working my way through four seasons of Futurama - always a pleasure, never a chore.
Lastly, just did Staw Wars original trilogy over the last three weekends. My wife had never seen them all in the right order (or completely) so it was quite good fun. She seemed to enjoy them and quite rightly pointed out that the new ones are not half as good (too po-faced and when they do try humour, it's cheap slapstick rather than witty dialogue). Another reason why I love her so...
I'll admit to watching Strictly Come Dancing as well. And I've seen two episodes of The West Wing. But in general, I don't watch much television these days.
The Smoking Room looks interesting.
the ariel of my telly is busted, and everyone else is hogging the remote for digital. so i really haven't watched much telly at all for about a year now. which is good. i'm sick of enjoying tv shows and then have them cancelled on me. i just watch dvd's now, and bond with mr playstation.
Usher - I really liked Smoking Room when it was on BBC3. Maybe takes a couple of eps to get into it though. Good solid stuff.
the ariel of my telly is busted, ... so i really haven't watched much telly at all for about a year now
Tv arials aren't that expensive
Mostly I'm watching my big ol' behind. As I've got a new manager and he's copped my doing my pencil monkey bit whilst I'm supposed to be working.
Bolt-01
The only things I've been making an effort to watch are The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy,Battlestar Galactica and The Power of Nightmares.
Oh yeah, and Most Haunted.I always end up with the living room to myself when I watch that as everyone else goes off in disgust.
BBC News 24 is often on in the background if I'm doing something else.
In regards to The Power of Nightmares-one of my friends works for the BBC and he says that it will be aired at some point in the US.
That'll be funny.
Never mind Iran or North Korea, looks like it'll be air strikes on Wood Lane, then ;)
Himilaya, Britains Natural History, Six Feet Under, Sopranos, Deadwood, Battlestar Galactica & loads of old 'Discovery' Channel 'Battlefields'.
I don't have satellite, but a good friend of mine [kof] gets the last 3 via the wonder that is eMule.
I see there's a second series of 'Peep Show'. Did anyone else watch the first episode on Channel Four on Friday night? Magic. Cringeworthy magic. I haven't laughed so hard since I read Prog 1415 the night before.
Rio Bravo (on DVD)
Abaranger; a power rangers rip off. I would never watch this, were my son not addicted to it. It does have some nice allegorical villains, a lot like some of Ultraman`s. My favourite is the shrine monster. He disguises himself as a small shinto shrine, with a marker pen and little wooden plaques in a box. As soon as someone writes what they want on one of the placques, hangs it on the shrine and prays for it (which is what people do) he turns into shrine monster and grants their wish in an evil way (robbing a bank to give one woman money, picking up the man who wanted to travel and flinging him screaming into the distance)
Some drama about a hostess bar in Ginza...will the woman in the expensive kimono triumph over the evil banker or will she have to....?
Bob the builder, of course
yours sometimes wishing he`d had kids before the invention of video players
I quite like Abaranger, actually, Floyd. it's turned up over here as 'Power Rangers Dino Thunder', but the original is better... er, if you like that kind of thing. But shouldn't Roy be into Dekaranger by now?
(thinks of Jasmine and rubs his knees suggestively)
mmm tv very rarely...
But ive just watched "freddie got fingered", and laughed my F*cking A*s off, tho i missed the first bits with the horse...ewwww !
"cheeeeeese helmet, with my Cheeeeese helmet !!"
"daddy would you like some sausages"
some bits are surreal genius, some were "no way !thats too f*cked up !", some cheeeeeesy shit. funny man funny.
i sense the dysfunctional family jargon repotoire will have explanded.
cheeese sandwiches will never be the same.
Just watched the film 'Bridget Jones's Diary' on Channel 4. I really enjoyed it. I haven't laughed so hard since I watched 'Peep Show' last night.
Just watched the film 'Bridget Jones's Diary' on Channel 4.
read the book? it might not be a guys thing, but as a not very girly girl, i was genuinly surprised to find that i not only enjoyed it and find it funny, i read it all in one sitting.
watched the film 'Bridget Jones's Diary' on Channel 4. I really enjoyed it.
Yep, suprised me too
'Bridget Jones's Diary': I watched it ages ago. It was a lot better than I though it would be. If Hugh Grant hadn't been in it, it would have been a great movie.
yeah the book has some halarious single women in-jokes in there, even for us tom-boy girlies.
The gruddamn 'englishness', ie camped up queens english for the yank audience, naffs me off in all these brit films.
i was struck when watching parkie ( for first time ever ) the other week , at how lovely charming & gorgeous the real Rennee zzzwhatsit is, she looks NOTHING like bridgit either. but i didnt fancy her as much as kevin spacey, he really wierds me out, scary/attractive , love the southern accent too ! mmm
Well, just watched
STARSKY and HUTCH. Pretty poor really. The only half decent jokes were spoilered in the trailer. Bastards. Much as Ilove Owen Wilson, I wish he'd do something to stretch himself. It would have been better if they'd been cast the other way around. best bit - the start of the trailer for ALIAS SEASON 2 - "What was wrong with the black?" - sexy and funny - "I gotta get me some of that".
TIMELINE - Michael Crichton tosh and nonsense. Emminently predictable - like a bad Future Shock. Far too much running around woods and villages - in fact it oft times reminded me of a poor episode of Doctor Who - one of the historical ones rather than a Dalek invasion - except it had none of the charm or wit. Good excuse for some Scottish characters for a change - that Gerard Butler - he'll be the next Jamesh Bond sho he will. In fAct, him and Anna Friel's romance was better than the one of the two american stars of the film. Hah.
i just watched I robot again, which was pointless as ive seen it & juvey went to bed half wey thru. s'good tho.
then the hall of fame is/was on, i turned it down & left in disgust when our Robbie got the 90's. i mean , reeeeelly !?
now i know U2 are U2, blahhhdy blahhh, BUT, i realise i havent actually hear an album since like the late 80's. ive never met anyone who bought them post mullet. i have the earlies on vinyl of course... the singles ive liked, why doesn no-one buy the albums ?
is it cos theyre shite?
or are we all put off my bono being a big eejit ?
are they any good ?
is it something that people only listen to in secret ?
Because of the language barrier I can only watch what's serialised at the video shop so at the moment its 24 series3 and The Shield. and some Tales of the Unexpected. Im trying with some japanese anime too, Monster is quite good but the wife has to translate.
Good news; my video shop has a bunch of shiny new Monkey DVDs.
Bad news: it isn`t the `monkey` I remember but a new Chinese one
Good news: it looks like fun
yours working with the `aba ranger` theme song ringing in his ears
CSI: NY
I've found a great website this past week that lets me download all the English shows i've been missing in the 2 1/2 years since leaving England.
Recently downloaded:
Have I got news for you, Q1, Garth Marehghi, Harry Hills TV Burp, Little Britain.
This website has saved my sanity as Canadian Tv generally sucks arse.
Cheers,
Adam
was going to say im watching nothing at the moment now the sopranoes has finished .
but living channel are repeating the catherine tate show on friday nights, didnt get any rave reviews when shown on bbc2 earlier this year.
its worth watching just for old women swearing, you cant beat that.
Just thought I would necropost this old thread (obviously before LAST MOVIE WATCHED and CURRENT BOXSET ADDICTION) because it shocked me when I realised BSG remake and Deadwood were 15 years ago.
