Keeping detailed files on 'leverage' which could be applied by the whips when necessary has been a thing for decades - unusual for it to be mentioned in public though.

I wonder if there's not a couple of things going on here, firstly, I think most of the new cohort don't have the decades worth of leverage a longer term politician might have - not only because they're from 2019 but the last few years lockdown has changed the landscape a great deal over what you can do. Meaning the whip has had to resort to far less subtle measures of coercion.

Secondly, I wonder if these new tories are maybe not feelin more existential pressure from their previously labour voting constituents - requiring a stronger bit of arm twisting.

Thirdly, I suspect too they just aren't used to the idea "well, a bit of coerican is just how things get done round here" - this might be a generational thing, I dunno.

And finally, Johnson is a nasty bit of work, and stands to reason he's gonna surround himself in other nasty bits of work and what they lack in charm they probably make up for in weapon's grade dickheadery.

I think the big question is whether Sunak wants to be PM now, or in the summer.

I'm hugely impressed by the likes of Pippa Crerar at the Mirror for this drip, drip strategy with he Downing Street revelations. She could have released a huge expose, as has been done in the past, and Johnson would have bluffed and blustered his way through a few days of bad news before finding the latest dead cat. As it is, she and her colleagues have sustained a slow, painful death in the polls for the Tories.

All Kier Starmer has to do is stand around and look semi-competent. Which is good, because that's about his limit.
As delightful as it might be to imagine this is the strategy of Pippa Crerar I suspect she’s putting stuff out as it’s been leaked to her. Someone with rather a lot of evidence is trying to damage Johnson from the inside. (Assuming it’s not just Cummings )

Well wow. While 20 years sounds impressive enough for some reason reflecting on 1000 Progs just punches home how much that actually is. So what something like 26000+ pages of comics... and that's before you even think about the Meg as well.

Bloomin' heck!

Here's a fun game, pick a number for a page rate, multiply that up by the number of pages and that's how much money Matt has spent for Renegade :)

I thought I read / heard that you'd gone all digital with 'Chimpsky's Law' (the specific could be wrong???) so had a feeling that might be the case. Either way very excited to see what you do with The Sarge.

I think Chimpsky's law might have been the final moment were the joy of traditional was out paced by the frustration with traditional. It's been moving that way for a long long time though.

Also worth noting that article from Downthetubes.net also has more details of The Sarge collection due May 12th and is that the first time we've seen the cover - very nice work there. In hardcover too - super excited to see this and his strip with PJ Holden on art... please say that's not going to be all digital art! PPPLLLLEEEEAASSEEEEE. I'd love to get hold of one of those!

All my art's digital, Colin, sorry!

i enjoyed that groundhog day ep. aisling Bea rather proves my on going thinking that john bishop is startlingly bad as an actor. i’d be curious to find out if Bea ad-libbed some of her lines, which were pretty much all funny.

there was a few wtf? moments, but buried under a great deal of charm so i don’t care too much about them.

I'll just put to one side the idea that Dublin and Belfast are interchangeable in your mind - let's call that unusual and move on.

I thought they are both in the Emerald Isle. Maybe I was wrong...

Not being a mind-reader, I can never tell whether you're taking the piss. Was it London or Glasgow? One of those. Interchangeable. Whatever. Sunni or Shia? Whatever. Black, white - what's the difference? Etc.

This is why the Brexit referendum was such a bad idea. How many of the voters even knew what country they were in while voting? Or on what continent? Planet?

Okay, I wasn't sure which one was of the two cities. Big deal. It was in Ireland, let's leave it at that. I definitely wasn't planning this to turn into a The Troubles debate.

I wish I could be surprised at the wilful ignorance.

Film Discussion / Re: Spider-Man: No Way Home

You're willing to forgive a lot if there's charm, and spider-man is very charming.

Exept Dr Strange, who I find weirldy not charming, and annoying. Less of him.

Really interesting what they did with the old With Great Responsibility line Essentially inverting it, all other spider-man become spider-man to make money then don't stop the killer of uncle ben and so are responsible through their inaction, whereas here spidey is responsible for aunt may BECAUSE of his action/heroics inverting his usual origin. Leaving him with the urge to do nothing because it'll get people killed. The other's essentially saying "do nothing and it'll get people killed".

Also, I did wonder what happened to uncle Ben in this universe spidey - it seems like he just never existed?

And I really liked how the left it Spidey in a home made costume, essentially stripped of all the high tech stuff, ready to be friendly and neigbourhoodly and no more big world ending plot lines, hopefully...

Was slightly frustrated with the Daredevil cameo, why bother? Also that whole OMG you're in trouble, nah it's alright actually, you're not - got resolved mega quick

In a lot of ways it felt like Ok, we're built this massive complex world around spider-man, let's bring that all to a climax - every single thing that can be done - then  strip it ALL back and bring him back to basics...

Although I have one hanging question which is I mean, why save the bad guys and then, I presume, send them back to their own unvierse/timeline on the basis they'll now get killed? Felt like either that was explained when I nipped to the loo - OR it just wasn't explained

Prog / Re: Subversive?

Given how the government of the day is, and the prevailing populist moods it feels like proper subversion is actual kindness and thoughtfulness to other people. I'll grant you, it's not as exciting as spitting in someone's eye, but there it is.

Mind you, no-one has posted anything today, so sod it..

14
I think I've done so in years past, but it's been a while and maybe the previous rules were different (was there not a thread, once where people would just post 2000ad related christmas stuff - alongside whatever was organised? or was that just my imagination?)

15
Can I just post something up into the thread? Am I allowed to do that?
