"If either of these made you chuckle then this is the book for you."

And for that reason, I'm out.

General / Re: The 1995 Mangafication of Judge Dredd

With my limited skills in Japanese, I can only glean the bare bones of this, but here's what I sussed -

The year is 2099, the place is Mega City Tokyo.
There's an evil organisation called 'Chaos' terrorizing the city.
Dredd's first name is Takeru.
The Judges appear to be either volunteers or a kind of super-hero team, because Dredd's day job is indeed primary school teacher.
The younger Judge is called Daniel and has just joined the Judges.

I'll see if I can get a better translation later.

the hints still don't exactly inspire.  Most recent:  looks like the spice mines of Kessel are definitely going to feature, in addition to the eponymous run-sigh-

I'll see your -sigh- and raise you a FFS. Interest definitely waning…

Has anyone involved in the film yet used the phrase "We'll finally get to see..." in reference to this? As though none of us have been able to enjoy the original films because we haven't seen every second of every character's lives.

It's only a matter of time.

Thanks for posting Steve!

While I'm glad that the city will be the main character, and it won't be just about Dredd, I was a bit worried he would be mostly sidelined, with just a couple of appearances here and there.

That interview is promising, though, suggesting they'll have a good balance.

I was concerned about this too, until it occurred to me that a lot of my favourite Dredd stories hardly feature the man himself.

The old 80s formula of following a crazy cit going about their ill fated business with Dredd showing up when it's all gone tits up to cube everyone could work on TV. Almost like an anthology format of future wackiness. With added long form plot strings woven in throughout of course.

Regular UK postage to West Yorkshire.

I'm really hoping with the violent nature of Dredd that this series is going to be more pitched at a walking dead TV show level. . . . Walter is a character aimed at children under 10.

Walter (and Max Normal) I can live without. I get why long time readers have a nostalgic place in their hearts for them, but would they really work for general viewers? You'd need a very soft touch with them as they are marmite even for prog readers.

A little Walter cameo as a nod to the fans would be cool. I think an oddball informant for Dredd's team could work though.

Urban should guest occasionally as Fargo or play the original Rico for an episode or two. Best, I think, to move beyond him playing Dredd under the circumstances. He did a great job in the 2012 film but that's over with now so I think it's time to move on.

Urban was pretty much the one element of Dredd 2012 that everyone agreed was perfect. If they can get him to reprise the role, they will.

Do they explicitly say it's not in the same reality, or just that it's not a sequel to the film?

Explicitly not the same reality as the film.

They talk about wanting to take the best elements from the Stallone film (look of the city, wacky future elements) and the Urban film (gritty, hard) and create a hybrid.

Also discussed having a mix of screenwriters and actual 2000 AD script droids working on the storylines.

All sounds very exciting.

Thats really deflating news for me, as I am firmly in the camp of wanting to see any continuation of the 2012 film.

I guess this news now  officially kills that ever happening, so i guess I'll go into mourning now.

No more "Dredd" :-(

There's every chance we'll end up with something even better. Don't give up hope!

Jason Kingsley answers the Karl Urban question.
I can't watch videos at work, what does he say?

Basically that they really would like Karl Urban (and Olivia Thirlby) to return, and he's keen too, but it's too early to plan or confirm anything.
