Fantastic cover, and typically interesting breakdown by the great D'Israeli. Ta.

The making of Jake Lynch's fantastic cover on Prog 1990 is on there today - I can't make my mind up whether I like the version with the people and cool stylised blocks or the stark white version best...

Ohhh now thats a GREAT question and a fine example of why this blog is sooo wonderful. How many times have I stirred at thumbnails, altered drafts etc etc and wondered what the heck is Tharg thinking*. This is another prime example. The stark image is great BUT when that is juxaposed with the citizens and the stylised City Blocks in the back ground I think this cover rises up to another level.

The grim overpowering reality of Dredd is for me made all the more with the nonchalant folk in the background. This might have been jarring except for the genius touch of the mum (I assume) covering the child's eyes. Cleverly acknowledging that something terrible has happened and thus emphasising now numbed the city is to the terrible violence that fills it.

Superb.

As is the blog for giving us these things to think about. Thanks again Pete.

*Well clearly he's thinking about the YEARS of experience he has of knowing 177923 times more about this stuff than me... doesn't mean he's not WRONG of course... just its very, very, very unlikely!

Hoped for some confirmation about the nature of that bucket & spade... I see Ritterstahl and TMO but can't be sure. Or think what clever gag I'm stoopidly missing. Possibly overthinking it.

Anyway: read it tonight and loved it. Unliked the reasonably filler Specials of old, the reworking of Robohunter and Ace have been fantastic recently. The one-off Dredd was a treat too.

The first cover of Prog 2000 is up, up, up! Cliff Robinson's 100th 2000AD cover which happens to also be for Prog 2000! Find out why Tharg has got no fingers too!
