Relatively new convention in Newport, South Wales (my home town), which this year has 2000ad's very own John Wagner and Dylan Teague as guests with possibly more to follow? Oh yes and blatant plug I will be there as well selling my wares in what will be my 1st ever convention!! (Not nervous honest!)

PS Any convention selling hints and tips greatly appreciated!!

Creative Common / Building my own art desk
04 August, 2016, 03:21:11 PM
Hivemind help needed. As part of a major build going on in my house (double story extension) I wil be acquiring a small area that I can set up as a permanent home for my art. As part of this I want to make my own art desk with adjustable height such as shown below.

I have been looking at numerous options for how to achieve this adjustment, with the most practical appearing to be the same as shown above which is an adjustable ratchet support (for drafting tables.

This is where my problem arises, in that I can find numerous US retailers flogging these for reasonable costs, yet cannot even find 1 UK seller for this item? I though then that perhaps this may go under a different name so have tried lots of possibilities but to no avail.
Anyone who can identify a cheap UK retailer of such an item will be forever in my debt!

Books & Comics / Comics for a 10 year old girl??
24 July, 2016, 06:44:55 AM
Hivemind please can you give me any recommendations of some good comics for my daughter to read (digital preferred). Going away soon so want to pile her Ipad up with lots of reading material. She already has a load of 'my little pony' thanks to a previous humble bundle, but she has now read most of that. Have heard a lot about Lumberjanes, but not sure if may be slightly to old for her??
I have googled but lots of wildly different results coming up so wondered if anyone had any personal recommendations?
Thanks all for any help!

There is a heavy 2000ad droid contingent attending, including the mighty John Higgins (guest list below). Just wanted to make people aware as this is one of the smaller cons that sometimes gets overlooked.

Creative Common / Inktober
02 October, 2015, 07:15:21 AM
Morning All,
A day late I know, but are any of you aware of Inktober. I am trying it myself this year, but the aim is to submit a sketch a day to social media for the entire of the month.
Only bought it to your attention as a number of driods e,g. PJ Holden, Pete Doherty & John McCrea are participating. Plus our very own Neil McClements. All I can say is that PJ did a cracking Dredd for yesterday.
I am attempting a 2000AD theme for the month so any suggestions are welcome!
Here is yesterdays effort of mine a slightly cross Hammerstein!

News / New Bad Company
09 March, 2015, 12:32:24 PM
Just got twattered on twitter that Peter Milligan  is returning to 2000AD with a new Bad Company story that will be a tribute to Brett Ewins with pencils by Rufus Dayglo and inks by Jim McCarthy. Due to hit shelves in prog 1950. Excuses if any minor errors in above as it is mostly from memory as I have lost the original tweet!

Events / GeekedFest (Newport Comic-Con) August 8th-9th
19 January, 2015, 04:11:43 PM
Via the Cardiff Comic-Con Facebook page I have been made aware of the above.
A brand new event which appears to be covering comics, film and all things geek according to the flyer. As far as I can find out the venue is Newport Leisure Centre, but tickets costs, guests and exhibitors are as yet unknown. Will be nice to see who is going and hopefully it will be a tidy line-up. Nice to have a new event on my doorstep (literally!) fingers crossed it will be a good one.
I will update this thread when more info is available if anyone is interested??

Events / Cardiff Film & Comic-Con November 8th - 9th
17 October, 2014, 12:46:10 PM
Was going to give this a miss due to its film-centric leanings (Looking at you Showmasters) until I noticed that the guest list has just been updated to include 2000AD favourite 'The Biz'.
On top of Dylan Teague, Ben Oliver and David Lloyd (and his Aces Weekly roadshow) means I will definitely have to give this a look.
Lets hope a few more 2000AD names now jump on in the next few weeks!
Anyone else going to be going to this??

Film & TV / The Strain
15 July, 2014, 06:14:57 AM
New series just started on Fox in the US based on Guillermo Del Toro's Novels of the same name. Watched feature length episode 1 last night (also directed by Del Toro) and enjoyed. Basically a slightly different take on the Vampire story with enough gore and mystery to keep me intrigued for episode 2. Plus some good effects throughout considering it is TV fodder. Not ground breaking but another interesting addition to the rapidly growing TV horror genre.  :)

Hi Guys (and Gals!) 2 weeks today I shall be embarking on a 40 mile bike ride here in sunny South Wales to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. This is an event being organised by the company I work for, and we are aiming to raise £20k plus.
I have set myself a personal target of raising £300 and am already at £70! :D
I have cleared it with Mr Clements and he is fine with me promoting my Just Giving page here so that if any of you fine upstanding forumites would like to also donate to this worthwhile cause then you can.
Donations can be made at http://www.justgiving.com/Alex-Mines and I am extremely grateful for anything that anyone can give!
Many thanks and apologies for the grovelling and begging!! :-[

Probably one for the mods here, but in a few weeks time I am participating in a 40 mile charity cycle ride in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research.
What are the rules and etiquette regarding the posting of links to my Just Giving page? I do not care if no one donates but I thought there is no harm in asking, as the more cash I can get the better it is for such a worthy cause.
I could not see anything relating to this in the forum rules thread?
I completely understand if this is not permitted.

Events / Cardiff Comic & Film Con 2014 - 1st - 2nd March
23 February, 2014, 06:09:03 PM
Not seen a lot mentioned on here regarding this event considering it is only next weekend when it happens?? It appears that there was a large contingent who went to the last one, is there many from the forum going this year??
Me and my boy will be going down on the Sunday probably. If no-one else is there then I will try to grab some pics and post up anything of interest that I see.
Wagner, Teague and Roach have got my interest, plus there is a convention exclusive cover of the new IDW Rogue Trooper being made available which you can get signed by Ponticelli.

Can anyone recall a late eighties, early nineties comic anthology released in the UK. I can recall that there was some amazing painted art for an old school fantasy epic type story in it.
I am not sure if this was a Marvel UK anthology or something else. This may also have contained Genghis Grimtoad, but again that may have been another anthology. I am positive it was not Toxic or Scream, so what else was there around that time.
I am desperate to trace this painted story that I mention above but cannot recall for the life of me what it was???

Help! / Manga Studio 4 - Reduce exported image size
11 October, 2013, 01:49:24 PM
Still a novice with MS4 and for the past 2 monthly art comps I have exported my image as a JPEG out of MS4 so that I can upload it onto Photobucket then post it into the comp thread.
The exported image has always been about 25mb which fails to upload. I then have to return to MS4 try numerous attempts to try and reduce image size and fail. I usually then end up using Irfanview image software to reduce image to a useable size e.g. 1mb or less which finally allows me to post.
As this is a very long drawn out and annoying process is there a simple way of exporting an image from MS4 that is a sensible file size, that can be posted direct to Photobucket and then posted on the thread?
(I hope that makes sense!) This cuts out the irfanview middleman, and hopefully saves me a lot of time and hassle trying to get my art up without losing any image quality.

Ok everyone, on the back of the Cintiq tablet thread, what is currently out there on the market to allow me to do sketching on the go on a standard tablet?? I do no think my funds will stretch to a new Cintiq.
I have a generic android tablet, but when searching the market for specific apps come across hundreds of hits, are any better than the other. Any pointers or suggestions would be appreciated.
Secondly is there such a thing as a fine line stylus for a capacitive tablet? All the stylus's I have seen have the large squidgy rubber end is these such a thing as a stylus with a nib less then the current 5-8mm??
Thanks for your help!! :)
